Spot on review. Linus from LTT also had the same thoughts with the 100% waterproof claim and even went as far as to change the talking points when promoting Vessi shoes on his channel as water resistant than waterproof.
@NonLegitNation2
@NonLegitNation2 Год назад
why would he do that they are actually waterproof, no water gets through them. I mean if you want to get technical even a pair of chest high waders aren't waterproof if you go into water that's above the waterproof material. I mean i guess Vessi could say a water-resistant outer with a waterproof liner or just say the shoes have a waterproof liner.
@nhojlagap6222
@nhojlagap6222 Год назад
@@NonLegitNation2 same question can be asked to vessi. They market the shoes as 100% waterproof while in fact only part of it is. If vessi is not happy with that, they would have stopped asking LTT for sponsorships.

From experience with multiple pairs. Largely due to wearing them out. Took a pressure washer at a car wash to them. Didn’t get water in them. But I will say if they leak under a year. The warranty allows a free replacement. Which is how I got a few pairs. I ruined on by foot placement. But yeah only got water in after excessive wear and standing in a puddle.

In theory, Gore-tex membranes should actually be both waterproof and breathable due to the nature of the pores in the material. You should try and review some gore-tex shoes the same way! P.S. Depending on the collab, they might look nice too :>
@MrCrunch808
@MrCrunch808 Год назад
Gore-tex does have the issue of becoming water logged once they are put under tough conditions repeatedly. The holes hat are kept water-free can allow water to pass through once the outer coating is worn off, and you would have to reapply that yourself. For most people gore-tex will work as advertised, but if you are going hiking in the rain it will eventually require maintenance. You can reapply the coating with a relatively cheap product. Just throw it into the washer with the product then dry it either by line or in the dryer and it should work as good as new. Works for any garment.

i've had mixed results with goretex footwear. I had a pair of Nike react trail 3 gtx's and they were great for a while but eventually they started to allow water in so I returned them. I also have a pair of adidas terrexx free hiker gtx winter boots which have been 100% waterproof since i bought them last year but my feet do get pretty sweaty in them even though goretex is supposed to be breathable. The adidas boots are my go-to in the winter since they're really light compared to my Rocky Bearclaw boots and they are really comfy because of the boost and so far pretty warm in the winter.

The biggest issue with vessi is the last talking point, no half sizes. This shoe doesn’t run small to me and I normally wear a 10.5-11 depending on brand. Vessi 10s are too small and the 11s feel too lose. They really need to get half sizes but I wonder if they don’t due to how they’re made. That or they’re too lazy and the molds are cheaper that way

I'm also a size 10.5 and ended up getting the size 10 because I was informed that the shoes end up stretching and molding to your feet. Which I found to be true in my experience after having my pair for over a year now. They fit snug to my feet without feeling cramped. I'm not sure what the life expectancy is for these shoes, but after a year I don't expect these shoes to give out any time soon. All in all, I will be certainly getting another pair after my current pair become unwearable.
@Michael-wo6ld
@Michael-wo6ld Год назад
Why on earth would "lazy" have anything to do with a business decision? Carrying half sizes doubles the number of skus you have to manage and produce. It's vastly more expensive, and if not that many people want them then the cost-benefit just doesn't work.
@Orphioux

No footwear with a waterproof membrane ( Vessis use a waterproof membrane like many other brands ) is very breathable. Your instincts are correct, waterproof means little airflow. We all know mesh fabric without a waterproof membrane is the most breathable and cool upper for hot, dry weather. adidas Supernova running shoes are a great example.

Not only that, but he's very clearly comparing them to the most expensive brands of shoe that aren't remotely going for functionality as its main purpose. Of course a shoe that is working to be water proof and durable can't also be the softest/breathable/pretties shoe at the same time. But for being the only " sneaker " style shoe that offers real durability and water proofing, they are plenty comfortable and good quality shoes. I'm also going to go on a limb and bet he didn't wear a more normal pair of socks at all and wore those thick ass wool socks he's branded himself, which also works against whatever level of breathability the Vessi's have. Sounds like he was clearly going out of his way to push these as " meh " so his brand of reviewing " high end " shoes stayed justified.

I could see Vessi being a great option for people who are traveling a lot, as it means you’ll have a pair of shoes that can handle various weather conditions without adding much (or any) weight to your luggage. Say if you’re going on a cruise or something, a pair of Vessi could be an excellent choice of footwear to bring or wear for excursions for days or locations where you need a whole shoe and not just sandals or flip flops, and it wouldn’t matter if it rains because the shoe would keep your feet dry. I watch a fair few cruising channels and I’ve seen more than one of them having to dry their shoes or socks with the hairdryer when they come back to the ship after a shore excursion

Long term review: I had a pair I used for work and the foam was noticeably wrinkly/compressed after about a month of daily wear... and chewed up after 4-5 months. But the uppers kept my feet dry so I wore them until the uppers eventually tore (from tripping and falling on concrete... which was also concerning that they were so delicate). Was happy I got them on discount because they would not be worth full price at all. In comparison, New balance 574s (that aren't water-resistant, mind you) lasted way longer than that with similar usage...

Nice to see someone review these! I have had a pair of the skater shoes for about a year now. They're not 100% waterproof, really like 80-90% for me. I don't get wet unless your directly pouring water on them multiple times. I bought a purple pair so the dirt isn't noticable. I got them because I wanted something easy to clean. A lot of people in the comments are recomending goretex shoes and I had no idea that was even a thing! I personally find them confortable.

I’ve had my vessis for years now (I copped them when they first came out) and they’re still holding up strong! My only critique is that the breathability isn’t as great as advertised. My feet overheat constantly, so this can get a tad uncomfortable in the summer. It’s honestly my only gripe, but I can’t see how a waterproof shoe can also be super breathable anyways, so it’s not a dealbreaker if it means my feet stay dry no matter where I am. If you have your laces tied, water doesn’t seep in, no matter how much water/grass you walk through, which is a lifesaver tbh. I don’t think I can go back

I've been wearing the Vessi booties for about a year now and they're amazingly comfy. I was skeptical of the whole waterproof part when I got them so I straight up put my feet in a small river for a couple of minutes and nothing. After a year of use, I was surprised that they started letting a bit of water in last week during a soft hike in a muddy terrain - the sole is still very well glued, I checked, so must be the material wearing down.

From my experience versus aren’t the best. One of the problems I had with them is that I never felt stable in them. The stretchy upper material made it feel like I was falling off of the soles of her shoes. They also started wearing down relatively quickly. The rubber that goes around the bottoms started flaking off within a month or so. I’ve also seen a bunch of people recommending these shoes for skating and I would definitely disagreed. With how unstable I feel on those shoes long boarding felt like I was about to fall at any moment. I don’t know maybe I just had a bad experience, but they aren’t the best in my opinion. Edit: the waterproofing is good for almost all situations

Thank you for the great, comprehensive review. You addressed my two concerns: 1.) How actually breathable? 2.) Comfort The Vessi website says only the knit makes it waterproof, no mention of a liner! And if the midsole is not comfortable, why buy a pair of shoes like that at all then? Good to know, I'll just go with Allbirds again most likely for this style of knit shoe.

I come from the tropics of Australia and have been watching the promos for these shoes from a number of channels I follow. They've opened free shipping to Australia, so I decided to hunt down some reviews of Vessis. Now I reckon the waterproof aspect of these shoes and boots is absolutely awesome, especially for some of the places I travel. You'd be surprised at how wet things get in the Far North of Queensland during the Wet Season. Oh, up North there are two main seasons, The Wet, and The Dry. There are different food and flowering seasons throughout the year, however, it's either wet or dry up there. Anyway, I was almost ready to drop 290 Aussie dollars on a pair of 'Stormbursts'. However, after learning that the shoes aren't very breathable, have decided against investing that sort of money. I'd rather wet feet on occasion, rather than my feet soaking in a sealed, hot brine solution all year.

Something about the shape of the heel ended up causing heel pain. They are super waterproof, but they do lack some breathability. My feet got pretty hot wearing them in hot weather. They were better in fall, winter and cooler spring days.

Would be cool to test it against a Gore-Tex shoe!

I work at a car wash and I wore these daily for a year. I bought my own insole to make it comfier and after a year they started tearing at the edges. I dont usually buy shoes for more than $40 so that was about on par for my experiences anyway 😅

I have Gore-tex Brooks trail running shoes that are water-resistant and breathable with the caveat that you need to wash them or they will loose their breathability. They are warmer than the non-Gore-tex versions, but not so much that it is uncomfortable, I've run with the Gore-tex shoes in 105* degree weather and my first thought wasn't how hot hot my feet were.

Nice, was hoping to pick up the slip ons as a winter alternative to my white slip ons. Looks like these are actually legit.

Content like this is why Seth is the best follow, it's not all the same stuff as other sneaker youtubers. Just for context Vessi is a BC based company and out here it is very popular so I see them all the time and my brother has multiple pairs that he wears all the time. Given that it ALWAYS rains a lot in Vancouver it works out here and is very popular with healthcare workers as well. It's dope to see new brands getting a chance to. Keep killing it Seth!!!

I contemplated buying these because i wanted atleast one pair of easy to put on shoes but after looking at the price and designs, I decided it wasn't worth it for me haha. They aren't ugly per se but they aren't exactly pretty either in my opinion. Nonetheless, good review! Ill contemplate them again if they add different designs

I'm not your typical target audience, but I loved this video. I am the exact market vessi are targeting though. Thanks for confirming this is basically the perfect shoe for me - as soon as I manage to make it to the correct delivery area next year at least.

I enjoy my Vessi's, they really are kind of breathable, and kind of warm, and 100% waterproof. The sole seems to be wearing out faster than they should, and they aren't incredibly grippy anymore, but they slip on and are incredibly comfortable.

Even premium outdoor shoes with materials like Goretex are as "waterproof" as those. My Nike ACG Mountain Fly GTX only have the material up to a bit above where the liner is on the Vessis, despite mine having a tall gater/bootie. Although GTX and materials similar to it are definitely way more breathable than that neoprene like material.

Man… *only* $105 for a basic running type shoe? Thats how it is these days I guess, but thats a sad statement. Sneakers like this a couple of years ago would have retailed for like $60.
@SqueamishPuppet

@@mjriemen I thought the same. I've looked at them multiple times but didn't buy because they are expensive for a very average looking shoe.

First video of yours and don’t think I’ll see another of yours because I don’t know how to appreciate tone for coolness only functionality. But great review! Only thing I might do if I were you I’d post a follow up on Twitter and pin a comment to review how it would be in the summer. But to be honest breathability can only be compared to general sportswear shoes and sneakers. Any sneaker that exists because it’s cool rather than serving a purpose doesn’t really have to do everything well and isn’t worn for everything, thus they would not be the best for breathability.

I knew these kinds of shoes could work, because they already exist for trail runners. And just like you're observing, they're great at keeping water out, but once they're wet, its very hard to dry them.
