It's coming up on three years that I've been working on this airplane. Why is it taking so long? I'll explain why and also give you an update on the progress I've made in the last month.

Oh bummer about the flooding. Been there with burst frozen pipes. And got to move on it fast to prevent mold. Good luck getting it all fixed so you can get… “back to building”! Just got my entire Cruzer kit and will follow your advice to stick to the plans. The inventory and organizing has already taken a while. Glad I can watch your old Cruzer videos too. Those should help a lot. Thanks so much for making all these videos. They’re really good. Looking forward to the online store getting stocked up. I’ll definitely want to replace most of the plastic lines etc. And maybe all those fairings will be available … haha… yeah probably not

I really appreciate your videos. I was an aircraft mechanic with the U.S. Air Force for 37 years. 21 active duty and 16 as a civil service civilian. It takes time to perform maintenance on an airplane or to make modifications. I applaud your attention to detail and making sure the work is done correctly. I was also a Quality Assurance inspector during my career and everything you are showing in your videos is high quality work. Please keep the videos coming. I am a huge fan.

take you time with YOUR build....hey the longer it takes, the longer we get to enjoy all the videos. You finish your project, we will have to watch someone else instead of starting our own project. Hoping I can start mine as soon as financially able.

I’m coming up on three years on my S-21 and you are probably ahead of me. 😂. I work on mine when I feel like it and don’t when I don’t. Keeps it fun, but definitely not as fast as many who make it a job rather than a hobby.

There is absolutely no need for you to justify how long this takes. I will still enjoy your videos if you pause that project for a year. just saying.. thanks for sharing all this and pls keep it up!

Hi Mark, You don't have to apologize that the build of your 750 SD isn't progressing any faster. My wife and I build a 701, which is a standard kit where everything needs to be measured and drilled out multiple times to the right size. We only got to build our plane twice this week. We call it "normal life got in the way". In any case, you are an outstanding example of precision for us and the construction of your 750 SD could become an educational film. 👍 We admire your dedication to detail and of course fully understand that your excellent work takes the appropriate time. We only take photos of our construction progress from time to time and we can imagine how much time it takes to produce video of the quality yours offer. The videos are really great and we hope that you will continue to post them even if it costs you time. Greetings from Apulia/Italy

Just last night I looked to see what happened to you and if I had somehow missed an update. Glad you're back. Worrisome about the leak. I have two showers in my "retirement" house which was built using plastic piping. I recall thinking at the time it was being build that I needed an access point to both. I didn't have any access points build in but I know that I could reach everything with minimal work. I would bet the first house I built in 1972 has never had a problem. On the other hand, I built a beautiful house in 1994 and learn after about 5 years that defective Chinese copper piping was used that sprung a leak - little holes right through the copper. Fortunately, that leak was located in the "basement" and was easily repairable. Most of the piping was good quality and the damage was limited. I also learned that that house had a defective water heater with a Chinese made anode rod that destroyed the water heater and made the water smell. The water heater supplier was very apologetic and replaced the system (Nashville, TN). Problems that you would never expect to happen.

I really like your videos! Thanks for putting them up so often. When I see the flights over southern MI I dream of flying up to where I grew up northwest of Traverse. I'm just getting started with my license though so I have a couple years before I'll be able to do that. I guess the point is that these videos are very motivating to me and I appreciate it.

Keep on doing what you are doing. I like the fact you share your every day life and all the things you have to deal with, in addition to the Super Duty build. Turn a deaf ear to the ones that do not understand. Thanks for awesome entertainment and....learning experiences you take the time to present for the benefit of us all. Thank you.👍🛫🛩

I know what you mean about filming takes a lot of the time that could be used to build, the mods add to the time and finally the day job (needed to have the cash to build) which cuts avalable time, especially if you have other things to do like fly for fun.

I know exactly why it takes so long to build an airplane. I’m 14 months into my build and feel like I have a long, long, long, long, long, long and a long way to go. I’m also looking forward to the Zenith homecoming for the same reasons you are. Not to particularly plagiarize, but to harvest food for thought! How do you eat an elephant?

Folks who think your build is taking too long have never built an airplane! I'm three years into a Kitfox project and nowhere near as far along as you are with the SD. These things frequently take decades to finish!

Ok, more than fair on living with the challenge of a real life. We empathize. Great explanation, to include being gone essentially half a year (just more reinforcement that we made the right career choice for us). Your airplane is looking marvelous. We appreciate your point about just building IAW the plans and get it in the air. We can do the farings as we go. Amazing museum, btw

Sorry to hear about the water damage. That sucks badly. It has happened to me too. I had a leak that ruined a hardwood wood floor. Another time I had a sprinkler pipe burst and dumped hundreds, maybe thousands, of gallons of water into the yard. So, I decided that any time that I will be away for very long, I turn off the main water valve and the sprinkler valve at the street. I also turn off the electric water heater so it doesn't burn up it's heating coils if it leaks it's water. I also installed a automatic shutoff valve at the water heater so that it turns off it's water supply if it detects a leak in the water heater overflow pan. I've also installed some Ring water leak sensors under the dishwasher and in the wall under the shower pipes (via a access hatch I installed on the opposite side of the wall) to detect leaks before it's too late. The Ring sensors alert me via an App on my phone wherever I may be. Now I can sleep at night.

I made my paint booth on a raised floor so that I could use downdraft ventilation. I made a plenum on one end and use a couple fans to draw air through the floor “joists” and down through slots I left between 1’ wide pieces of OSB. I also placed the plastic on the inside of my wood frame so that I had a smooth inside surface which is easier to clean and less likely to trap dust that will later emerge at the worst time possible. I placed a long filter opening the length of the center of the ceiling. This has worked great a the airflow is working with gravity to pull the paint particles down and through the floor.

I am restoring an old Jodel DR 1050 M1. I know how long time it takes to do this. Made roof wirh arches, doors and a hatch for backseats passengers. Made all this in carbon fibre/ epoxy. Took me 1/2 a year!

I don't understand why the kit manufacturers don't at least give you a suggested finish instructions for wiring, plumbing, etc!? I know everyone has different equipment but they could at least have a few extra chapters with suggestions. Seems like they just leave you hanging after the rivet banging is done.

Hi Mark, I hope that you’re doing good. As a Minister of Jesus, I know that there’s a lot more important things to life than building an airplane, namely our souls and our families, so I wouldn’t worry about what people say about it taking a while. God has seriously blessed you with a lot of talent and skill. I’m sure Airbus and Boeing would be happy to take you on board any day. Being from Louisiana originally I know what water damage can do and there’s a possibility that you might need to tear down some dry wall and get back there and clean behind the walls. Mold is a serious killer as you know. I’m praying for you and your family members and I hope that everything works out good at your house. Jesus loves you,
