These ads exist because they fit the stereotype that Japanese have when they think of foreigners. It goes along with their preference for foreigners from "good" countries as opposed to "bad" ones. White people definitely get preferential treatment in Japan compared to other foreigners. Remember the old TT episode when the boys mentioned how the police singled out Garnt for being Thai, then said he was all good when he showed the British passport?

Well, Westerners think and promote themselves are the superiors, and taught the rest of the world that western values and democracy and freedom are the best. After WWII, America came to Japan to reeducate the loser and built military bases. As the result, more and more English words in Katakana form in Japanese and Japanese are obsessed with Western culture and westerners. That’s part of the reasons why Japanese love using foreigners in ads. It makes sense in historical context and in modern globalization context. Even though a lot of foreigners claim Japanese are xenophobic. Maybe Japanese are xenophobic and not xenophobic at the same time. People are multifaceted.

Try checking out the packagings of sports products outside Tokyo. Tokyo is garnering a lot of foreigners these days, not just tourists but residents like you and Pewdiepie etc. So it isn't so surprising if many products in Tokyo are trying to appeal to these demographics by using foreign models.

The explanation doesn't make sense because there are no Black people in these ads. It's not complicated, in East Asia they think "White is better".
