Patrick, you have been my favorite online truth-dispenser for years now. I am so happy I can listen to your commentary and interviews again. I have gotten push-back from friends on multiple occasions for showing my wariness of the Jordan Peterson phenomenon. I appreciate what you have said here and honing specifically on the problems with the attachment to a Jungian worldview. I have all the patience in the world with him thoughtfully considering joining the Fold, but when you start giving Jungian-influenced interpretations of Scripture to an entire generation of uncatechized folks the standard dramatically changes.
I believe JP is confusing Catholics and Christians. There have been a couple of interviews of JP where the host tried to pin him down on the question of his beliefs and he doges the question of whether or not he believes Christ is the messiah . Rather than answering the question, he instead goes into a philosophical or psychological explanation-never acknowledging that Christ actually existed, not as a concept , but as the actual son of God. A Protestant country singer directly but very politely point blank confronted JP about his beliefs and the hosts of Avoiding Babylon completely denounced the Protestant. They ridiculed him and accused him of having a low IQ. The problem with JO is his alignment with the Catholic Church. His wife and daughter are recent converts and he often appears with Johnathan Pageau , who is well known and is either a Catholic or Orthodox. JP sounds much more like a gnostic and has reduced Christianity to some kind of psychological theory rather than what we , as Christians, truly believe. It appears that people are blinded by his reputation as an intellectual genius, however, he completely misses the truth while simultaneously preaching the necessity to orient yourself to “the truth”. The words he uses in his analysis of Christianity are concerning. He says things like “ the greater good “, “ call to adventure “, he uses the phrase “the divine” but not in the context we understand divinity as it relates to Christianity or Catholics . It reminds me of the New Age stuff. That type of ideology is insidious and seems harmless at first , but it inevitably leads to occultism. There appears to be some good that may be attributed to his exploration into Christianity. He has appeared on some some high profile platforms hosted by very influential people who later converted to Catholicism . Other influential individuals who were outspoken critics of Christians seem to have backed off their insulting remarks and harsh criticisms about Christianity. They seem to accept this intellectualized interpretation of Christianity . I think the appeal to this Peterson ideology stems from this detachment and no acceptance of Jesus. Peterson himself never acknowledges the reality of Christ nor the necessity that you accept , believe , and follow Christ. His religion is merely another, albeit more sophisticated, self help, pop psychology , feel good , book that centers on self. Believe me , I’ve read enough to recognize those types of books and they never offer you what you truly need- which is Christ. I really don’t know exactly what to make of JP and his affiliation with our bishops, priests , and the Catholic Church. Maybe God has a plan and is using him; however, many Christians have expressed these same concerns. I would advise people to be cautious about him.
It's comical that any of the hosts of Avoid Babylon would comment on anybody's IQ as every single person I've ever seen on that show, Little Timmy Gordon included, are some of the stupidest people I've ever heard open their mouths.
Firstly there is a difference between orthodox and Roman catholic. If you're a protestant you're practicing heresy. Orthodox is the only form of Christianity true the rest are alterations.
I also think she was twisting him around her little finger and would interrupt and distract every time he tried to ask anything further. She is her father's daughter.
So spot on Patrick. This was really great and insightful. I tried watching this interview 2-3 weeks ago and it made me feel unsettled and I couldn't get through it all. Peterson recently had an interview with Bill Maher who made some obviously false claims that Paterson was unable to refute, he offered almost no push back and seemed more interested in repairing his image with Bill Maher fans than speaking truth. He wears Christianity as a skin suit and should be listened to with caution. He's not an ally.
Anyone who thinks that Howard Stanton Levy was more than a con artist is buying the myths , the fantasy tales, the outright lies that Mr Levy used to build up an AUDIENCE. As his daughter pointed out he was never involved in the drugs and hippie stuff. He wasn’t “domesticating” Levy , but DEMYTHOLIGING him, which is really important when dealing with the subject.
Jordan Peterson is of no interest to me whatsoever. He is clearly more interested in money than he is in truth. His “free pass” interview with Bibi Netanyahu was an absolute low point. He’s become Shapiro’s lackey
Thanks for this unpopular opinion. I haven’t been able to watch Peterson for a while, like going down different interesting alleys to the same dead end.
Thank you for this. I had a similar train of thought watching this conversation. I kept waiting for conversion part of her story, I was shocked that it not only never came but by her continued unabated belief in her spells. Jordan unfortunately seemed blinded by the celebrity and clickability of this guest. Peace be with you and your viewers.
Pretty sure that I remember seeing zena and some guy on a RU-vid interview around 2013. She was still satanist in the video. And they talked about her father actually ritually cursing Jayne Mansfield's and how it worked. They also discussed the order of the wolf and all the powerful people in it. Ps also saw subject interview. She was more a satanist in the older video than how she described her "father" as a carnival barker. There's no doubt that he was an all out, believing(theistic) satanist. And they don't get power of of successfully cursing someone that's unprotected to death without performing serious evil; that is, it takes more than a cat...
I tried watching the interview when it came out. I couldn't put my finger on why, but I found something about the interview vastly insincere, and I found it nearly impossible to watch through the whole thing. Her PTSD was glaring, and she clearly has not healed from her past. Thank you for illuminating some points about which I was not informed.
I saw the photo of the lady and Peterson, and I could tell by her eyes, there is no way I am ever watching this! I wish Mr. Coffin had not suggested that his audience watch this; this is a ver bad idea.
When Jordan uses profanity in his regular speech red flags me about where his heart is currently. Patrick, please bring back your Nova Scotia flag that you once had in the background? Would be great to see it again !
World is falling but ok let's worry about naughty words. Pick up a book on semantics...then you'll understand why profanity is absolutely subjective. "Balderdash" was once considered even worse than the F word. Grow up
Hi I hope you do take the time to read this Patrick. With genuine respect intended… Holding a professed psychologist to the standard of a Catholic apologist is a strange expectation. Your desire for Jordan to be Catholic is obstructing reality for you. You can’t make others into what you desire them to be. He is who he is till he no longer is what he’s been. In addition your Catholic lens is obstructing the exact content of the interview. Especially the last few minutes. But most especially the part where she says she hasn’t done any interviews with anyone because she didn’t want to promote satanism and she felt Jordan would treat her fairly. In addition you may be too detached from your own sin after so many years of preaching the Catholic Gospel to remember all humans are the same sinful creatures on a potential journey to Union with God. Everyone at a different point on that journey. Cover your ears children we are going to hear from a wounded abused child who struggled to find her way out of direct evil and find seeds of compassion in Buddhism (hopefully as a bridge towards Christ) Catholic can only be universal if it’s the fullness of faith meaning all previous Truth from all traditions distilled into a whole from the fragments each human glimpses of God before he incarnated among us.
Thank you for your thoughts. Peterson is challenging towards the spirit of wokeism and Marxism? Is this not evidence that his Jungian accomadation is not total.
Wrong take. JP was addressing this on a psychological level given her upbrining with her parents. He did not address the spiritual component. You are reading into what you would have done instead of giving people the freedom to interview based on their own perspectives. There's always more than one take since life is complex. You need to chill out Patrick.
