Peterson's message is essentially that of the Stoics. Life was never easy. That hasn't changed. But we elevate ourselves by confronting the challenges. I wish I had learned this as a young man. Peterson is popular because he is giving people wisdom.

Wise words. Petersons popularity makes me thing of the matrix movie where the computers said they made a perfect world but humans rejected it. Peterson states hardship again and again and to face it. There is no guaranteed “better”. In fact he often states life will get worse as you age. The smarter humans seem to recognise this is true and are attracted to it. Truth been his bedrock also means what you hear is what he believes. That doesn’t make it right but you’re seeing into a smart mind and having the thinking explained. In a world with constant lies the truth is very attractive.

Thats because the biological fathers of those kids were not willing to bind themselves to their responsibility. @grantfrith9589
@grantfrith9589 Месяц назад
It's definitely an observation of mine that the idea of personal responsibility is extremely triggering for some people. I sort of understand it. Those that get offended by the idea will generally have a chip on their shoulder and usually have some kind of political stance that deflects responsibility onto some version of a political ideal. Jordan will often discuss the question about how good we could have it if we were all aiming up. I can tell you that I haven't seen too many folk make a decision to improve their lives. Most of us tend to make the same mistakes over and over but when you do see it like when my wife decided to lose weight it is surprising how positive effect it had on many of the people around her. Extended families and friends were all positively effected as a consequence in ways that have expressed themselves nearly two decades later. I still need to tidy my spaces and I'm taking baby steps in that direction. It's not easy to change yourself but it's obviously a supremely more effective path than waiting for some authority to do it for you...
@johnsmithers8913
@johnsmithers8913 Месяц назад
It's just a form of Narcissism. The only way you find peace in life is to accept your position in it. There will always be people more beautiful, smarter, and simply nicer. Much of youth is spent trying to be the best, failing, and then accepting. You let most of your ego slip away if you want to be content. Those that are triggered by JP's message think they could be leaders, great individuals, if it wasn't for nebulous forces keeping them down. It certainly wasn't because they were inherently mediocre. It isn't a coincidence that many of these triggered people have green hair, and disturbing body piercings. They scream for attention.

Except if you actually listen to him, he's an atheist by any traditional interpretation of Christianity. I say that having grown up in church and lost faith as an adult, and found JP after that. It's ironic to me because while he seems to have some hostility to New Atheism, his messaging is pretty much entirely compatible with it outside seeming to misunderstand the N.A. position, and adjusting for a couple things that seem to flow from that. If Jordan Petersons was the interpretation taught by churches, they probably wouldn't be in a decline towards irrelevance. He blames New Atheists for attacking an unsophisticated interpretation of religion, but not having been much of a church goer himself, he doesn't seem to know that they didn't invent those interpretations but rather responded to them since they were not just the mainstream of Christianity in America, but also a relevant political force that needed responding to for many reasons in the 2ks, including an assault on biology education. Dawkins himself has said there was value in the traditions and text as literature, and despite some folks highlighting his recent comments for political grandstanding, it's not remotely a new position for him. As far as I am concerned, outside of a little bit of idiotic fumbling around New Atheism and New Atheists, JP presents what's effectively an atheists, or at least atheist compatible, interpretation of Christianity, which is not remotely what is taught in the majority of primarily biblical literalist churches throughout the United States, in my experience.

It sounds right until you begin to realize that these things, in and of themselves, while they do provide meaning and structure for one’s life, they themselves are not inherently meaningful and cannot, by themselves, remedy the self-destructive tendencies in human nature. They themselves need a moral context within which they operate in order to give THEM meaning. It is not the structures of living that give life meaning, it’s MEANING that gives the structures of life meaning Find that first and everything else falls into place. That’s why the first three Commandments concern God and only then do the rest make sense as to why we should organize our lives around them.
