People considering it to be petty thing to fight over are ignorant. The marriage between Ram and Sita is one of the things that unites Nepali and Indian people. It is a prominent part of Mithila culture, which is present in modern day Madhesh Province of Nepal and Bihar of India. The cultural appropriation is not a minor issue. There wouldn't have been controversy regarding Bharatiya word if it implied inhabitants of "Bharat barsa" or "Indian subcontinent", which Nepal is a part of. But Bharatiya has become synonym to represent only citizens of India nowadays. The mural of Akhand Bharat in Parliament building of India further solidifies the notion of India regarding Bharat as a country rather than a region. Some argue that there wasn't modern day Nepal at that time, so wasn't India. "Mithila ki beti" would have been accurate depiction of the history. India trying to assimilate other South Asian cultures is not ok.

Learn from Nepal. We salute them. We are spineless people and meekly accepting such crap. Shame on us.

Very justifiable. This movie depicts Ramayan as it is not supposed to. This is how it starts - changing a few lines here and there, depicting our gods in a certain way - this is what new generation will see and think o.. this is how Ramayan is. If you want to make a movie on any Holy Books - be it Bible, Kuran, Bhagwat Gita or Ramayan please depict the characters, the dress code, the dialogs as they are in the books not what you want to show. This is how you demean Hindu Holy Books. I dare the director to make such modern, tecno movie on Kuran or Bible and release it in India.

Sita Mata was dharti putri found in Sitamarhi by Raja Janak while using hal which is currently located in northern Bihar . Mata Sita and Shree Ram was married in janakpuri which is currently located in Nepal. Both are important and divine place for us Maithils from both countries India and Nepal. I am from Mithilanchal northern Bihar. Please ask about this fact to actual knowledge person for awareness. Don't show illogical fact about our Mithila history for your selfishness and arrogance both Indian and Nepalese.some are claiming akhand bharat some other are saying everything happened in Nepal,what the hell. If you guys can't do in depth research please just keep yourself out of this. We have already faced enough of it. Thought I fully support the ban of movie but the basis of ban is just utter ignorance to the actual historical facts.

Firstpost should have mentioned that King Janak was Renowned as Mithila Naresh which literally translates to King of the kingdom of Mithila located in present day Bihar, also another name of Janaki is Maithili which is also the name of the language of present Mithila… 😮

A very much needed move by Balin Shah. A strong message to makers of rubbish movies that their insensitivities to the native culture of the land will not go unpunished. And the collective punishment of Bollywood may look like an overstep but it's time for someone to get this message across. Nepal's ban may not be of much financial significance but it definitely will be of great ideological significance! I watched a movie on prophet muhammad made by Hollywood in the 1970's and even Hollywood adhered to the cultural sensitivities of the Muslim community by not showing the prophet's physical form. I do believe people can still learn and not try to preach freedom of expression at the expense of other people's sensitivities. Charlie hedbo is another example of this hideous ideology where everything goes! It's a very brute, crass and unsophisticated way of expressing one self! It's like giving a voice to abusive and intolerant criminals. Political bans are a collective voice of the people. If people disagree with Mayor Shah, next time they can vote him out! But will they......?

At that time Bharat was called as Aaryavart which included today's Nepal also,had this been said in the movie,it wouldn't have been objectionable 😊

These days, when we have so much information to gather through internet, i thought it will be helpful for everyone. But some other day, we find that the information on internet, on films, on news are false, and truth is still unknown or kept closed in historical books. Nowadays, whenever we thought to find some knowledge, we got side thought that the person might be putting his own narratives in it. So what to do or what not to do, who to follow or share or not. For example; Like Devi Sita, where is she from actually, some says Mithila which is in India, some says Janakpuri, which is in Nepal. I want to read the book to know the truth, but its hard to find that which book is correct. I am having these thoughts like hating humans, because of conflicts between people over religion, place, language, culture, food, politics, like almost everything, we didn't left anything that we can share happily without any problems. And we focus on who blame rather than find the solution. And it's other matter that even if we find the solution, like this yours so we will not implement or etc etc. I think i become a human hater for some reason, And i like animals and environmental things more than human stuff. And sometimes when I hear the news like a comet will hit the earth, a cyclone is running around, i sometimes wish, oh yes please kills everyone, destroy everything we don't have anything to save, and we don't even deserve it like we know more accurate about other animal species than us, and also we still didn't call ourselves Animal, we still use word Social, like we did so much great things that the rest of world should bow down in front of us. I feel more concern and emotion for a animal or tree than human. It's not like that, I want to kill human like a sociopath, I am aware about my self, its just that if somehow in great tragedy we all humans are killed or this earth got distroyed than I wouldn't feel bad like oh my god what happen, I will feel like, thank God this happen, peace finally. Like that. And tragedy should be natural than it will be much more better. I think.
