My generation is trying to make smoking cigarettes "cool" again for some reason. I thought we learned the truth about smoking and that American's addiction to cigarettes would eventually die out, but maybe not?

I was a manager at a gas station chain for 8 years, in the midwest, and I can honestly tell you smoking never stopped here. Once I started working there, I was shocked at just how many people of all ages, of all types, smoke 1-3 packs a day. It's insane. I'm convinced most smokers lie about it.

@@gbanger6317 Among older customers, slightly more men bought them, but among younger customers, it seemed like slightly more women. They always tried hard to act "cool" while having a cigarette in their hand it's hilarious. They tried to lure me so many times without any result. When I was in the Navy I made some of my best connections on the SmokeDeck. It's a sad fact and the military, especially the Navy, is trying to get away from the smoking and drinking stereotypes. "Drink/cuss like a sailor" is a saying for a reason. But the fact remains that it's one of the few places on the ship where you can socialize. You see the same people and build friendships and connections outside of your department. Even within your department, the smoke deck is where sailors relax. I learned so much just by sitting and talking with sailors in different areas of my field. I just wish there was a different outlet as I finally quit smoking after 10 years and I hate that Junior Sailors are picking up the tradition.

In my country of Denmark, I see the same trend and it's mostly on the rise for young women. I see 3 main reasons why: 1. @@Christopher-qq4dlI wouldn’t say I disagree, but I don’t think it would inherently send someone to hell for smoking. I mean if logically anything bad we have put into our bodies from some medicines to drinking cokes and eating a burger all of which are technically speaking are bad for you. But in my opinion I don’t think God would send you to hell for it, but. I could be wrong. As a example Brett brought up the study of how any alcohol consumed is bad for you. Yet Jesus did drink wine multiple times throughout the Bible and we know he was perfect. Granted the wine they drank back then could’ve been for a variety of reasons. And I do know our body is a temple to serve the Lord. My thing is I don’t think God would send us to hell over it but again I’m open to be proven wrong if you do have some verses that come to mind to counter my opinion. And don’t think I am taking a jab at you or trying to start a arguement I’m simply opening the door to a discussion I’m more than happy to be wrong in.

I’m on the tail end of Gen Z (only 14), and I completely agree. I feel like our generation was (and still kind of is) in the height of vaping and smoking being trendy, just because of how geared towards children they have made it. Now I do think it is more Senior to College age kids, but still all these companies are profiting off of selling fun flavors of vapes, and easy ways to consume nicotine by making it look like gum. Nobody is making it difficult to smoke or vape, so why would these kids not? Like previously mentioned, the older side of Gen Z I feel is more geared towards drugs and smoking, just because they were raised in the height of the vapes and edibles and everything. My end of the generation has been raised in the height of being against those things. Like istg every month we have an anti-smoke, drugs, and vape assembly, just because they REALLY don’t want us to turn out like our fellow Gen Z-ers have. Anyways, thanks for reading my rant ✌️

I've been a smoker most of my life. I agree with many points in this video. It's a nasty unhealthy thing to do.....but I love it. While it can be debated on whether or not the aesthetic is pleasing, it is undeniably bad for your health. However, people should be allowed to smoke if they want. My life has been EXTREMELY difficult, and I wouldn't mind if it doesn't last super long. I guess what I'm getting at is the health harm isn't an issue for me. The pricing sucks. I know they cost so much to deter people from smoking, but we should be allowed to make our own health choices. I love smoking. At times I even enjoy the smell of a lit cigarette. I love the taste, the feel, and just about everything else that comes with it (yes, even the aesthetic). The only part I don't love is the price. I'm even ok with it "taking 7 minutes off your life" because I spent that 5 enjoying my smoke. However, I understand the health effects, and have seen it kill more than a few loved ones. I knew what I was getting myself into and made an educated decision on what I was gonna do, I was gonna do the dumb thing because I enjoy it. I also think smokers should be courteous where they smoke

They usually tell you in school about the damage it does to your lungs, heart, & skin. What they don’t mention is the total re-wiring of your brain that comes with nicotine & the other thousand chemicals. Smoked almost a pack day for 13 years. Happy to say my last cig was almost a year ago. That being said, after all this time has passed, I still have difficult moments of my mind still adjusting to life without the dirty smokes. Quitting is an absolute marathon. Don’t buy into to the whole vaping façade either. Just a method to get a young brain nice & primed with nicotine already. Then when you’re at party/bar & your vape dies you’ll try the real stuff (actual tobacco) & you’ll never look back.

Yeah, not so much recently I'm afraid. First, employers know that hiring a smoker means there's an additional 30-60 minutes/day they won't be performing, and probably an equal amount of time they will be niccing and less focused. Second, no smoker was ever turned off by the lack of smoke on the breath of a business contact, but vice versa, not so much. have you tried using vaping as a way to quit? With vaping you can slowly decrease the amount of nicotine in the vape juice. Cigarettes contain 12MG of nicotine per cigarette, you can get vape juice in 12MG, 6MG, 3MG and even 0MG. It's alot easier then trying to quit cold turkey and while yes you are still intaking nicotine atleast you aren't inhaling all the other harmful chemical that cigarette smoke contains, plus vape juice actually tastes good lol. I feel like a large part that was left out of the video is mental health and how when one gets mentally ill it can lead one to want to do anything to feel better and I hear from people who struggle with mantel illness that right during the time of smoking it can provide some relief from emotional pain. I feel like in any conversation about addictions and weather smoking is coming back or not we need to also consider mental health and addiction and what part hat plays in the whole thing.

Ugh this is concerning but I also get it. I started smoking when I was 15-16 years old because all the “cool kids” did it, but then before I knew it I was hooked and I smoked until I was 28. Then I switched to vaping (which that’s probably why cigarette sales went down, everyone started vaping instead) but I found out that’s even worse- because now I can vape inside outside wherever whenever and I hate it. I’m trying to quit now but it’s SO HARD! Please, if you haven’t started- DONT EVER. 🙏🏼❤️ Edit: I now have been trying the nicotine gum 4mg which has helped ALOT but it’s the hand to mouth movement “what do I do with my hands?!?” LOL any recommendations/tips are appreciated 🙏🏼

Right? I quit the vapes exactly for that reason. Instead of finishing a cigarette and waiting like 15 30 minutes for another one the vape I would smoke constantly! Finishing a 600 drags vape in about 3 to 4 hours. Now I'm back on cigs but instead of 1 to 2 packs a day it's been cut down to max 2 packs a week.

Something that might be worth trying is the nicotine pouches you put under your lip. I was on at 20-27 Marlboro Reds a day every day for 5yr. I quit back in January but switching over specially to "Nordic Spirit Spearmint" and haven't touched a cig since and now I'm not even tempted being about to walk past smokers or offered a smoke and not want it (rather then forcing myself to not have it now it smells disgusting to me). I recommend the Spearmint as it gives you a slight burning sensation/head rush unlike the other flavours (including normal mint) which I think helps as it gives you a physical reaction to help your brain (kinda recreates the slight burn in your lungs/throat when you smoke). And while they say they release nicotine for an HR I often leave it in my mouth for 5 or so hr as having it in my mouth and it still having slight flavour tricks my brain into thinking I'm having nicotine when I'm not. So it's also weaning me off nicotine itself. When I first started I was having 5 pouches a day and would have to have my first pouch immediately after waking up. Now I'm on 2-3 a day and as I type this I've been awake for about 5hr and haven't had one yet, though not having one first thing in the morning is uncomfortable I'm now pushing myself to go longer before taking it so I can wean myself off. Obviously I'm sure there are some heath issues with the nicotine pouches and it's not getting rid of the addiction just the source of it BUT I'm sure it's better for your health then cigs and vapes and they come in different strengths. So the idea is you take them till you aren't tempted to smoke. Then you decrease how many you take, the strength you take and eventually you just stop. But again only recommend the Spearmint as it seems to have other benefits that the other flavours I've tried don't have.

Same, now I'm 36 and have been quit for 4 years. It's really all mental. I know I heard that and never believed it but it's true. It's only so difficult because you see it as such a huge, unachievable task in your mind. And as soon as you quit and get a craving it makes you freak out and spiral. The huge deception is that it's soooooo addictive and soooo hard to quit. That's worse and more evil than the actual nicotine. It's really not that big of a deal. Just quit, you'll feel some withdrawals for a bit but it's no big deal. You've done much harder things in your life. This is no big deal and you can do it easily. That's the mental shift that needs to happen, then you will quit.

Plus my boss smokes a lot and she always says let's go have a cigarette. Whereas if I wasn't smoking it would be weird because then I would just not be doing anything. I also only get to see my friend when he comes out of the office to smoke. So when I see him come out to smoke, I smoke with him. This goes the same with the other person at my work we only ever get to talk when he comes out for a cigarette. None of the people that smoke would be outside during work hanging out except for if they were smoking... It is a sad reality. Agree. Not sure about women but when looking at photos of adult men from around 1870 to 2010 across the world, quite safe to say smoking is linked to accelerated physical aging, especially hair loss. Up till 1970, a sizable portion of men really looked old by 40 and were losing a large portion of their hair. Not a coincidence men in less developed nations with higher incidence of smoking appeared to age faster than their white western counterparts. Another aging aspect was the loss of voice clarity. When listening to some WW2 generation persons who were in their 60s as of around 1985, a considerable number had weaker voices. As of 2015, the voices of a considerable number of white western men in their 60s sounded as if they had not aged much since they were 35.

@@dylannix4289 Must have been my public education then, as my teachers taught how great it lowered the rate of smokers. I would need to relook at all the stuff to know for sure, but it seems some teachers also taught the American Civil War was about slavery, so it might have been misinformation we were taught

I’ve only ever had one cigarette. It just felt so unnatural, I hated the feeling in my throat. Thank god I didn’t get addicted and I’ll forever regret it!

Same, but mine was a flavored "cigar" (still felt like a cigarette lol). It definitely did not calm me down, just made me cough a lot.

It was only a matter of time before some dork would bring that trend back. I grew up in the 90s and I can remember seeing tons of high school kids smoking after school when hanging out together.
