Dude...you're 25. With a lot of experience and a bunch of money saved up. You'll be fine. I "started over" at 31, in tons of debt and out of my field for 4 years. I wouldn't give two craps about making content right now. We're engineers for a reason. We want to be challenged everyday. I've been at my startup for 4.5 years, which is pretty lucky. Getting canned would suck, I would just keep grinding for that job that you want and come back when you're ready 👍

I went back to school for computer science in my 20s and finished with a master's degree. Before that, I was working at a lot of dead-end jobs. I don’t know if either of you will read this but it doesn’t matter. Both of you actually encouraged me to do mechanical engineering after accomplishing pretty much nothing until I was 27 years old. I went back to school and now I’m just a year away from graduating. I took your advice and worked my tail off just to get an internship lined up this summer. Obviously I’m stoked but it was after hundreds of rejections and black sheep mentality. I am surrounded by people who out preform me in almost every aspect and thought I wasn’t going to make it many times (hell, I often still do). Both of your channels kept me going so I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you both for that. I think I speak for many, but we are counting on you to persevere even when times are rough.

@@Leonardo-vc6sl Well I'd worked for a couple years, so I wasn't totally fresh but I had a 4 year jobless gap so it was really hard to find work again. Was basically a new engineer for the first couple years. I don't see any issue with going for a degree. Just find a field that has some value and that you think you'll enjoy. Ask around, reach out to your connects to get some more advice. And keep busy while you're in school; do internships join clubs etc.

I don't comment much (well more so now) but I've been watching your content for awhile. I'm not an engineering major but I am going into software engineering after graduation and despite the differences in our technical backgrounds I still appreciated your content because of this sort of anti-gatekeeping vibe you bring in a place that feels kinda gatekeepy in some respects. I also like how this channel keeps things realistic. None of that endless glorifying of engineering either because it's not all sunshine and rainbows. You show us the ups and downs and that's far more commendable to me than simply showing just the good. The channel helped me curb my expectations too and I'm a much better person for it. Cheers mate you'll get back on it soon enough!

I actually really love this comment, so maybe you should comment more often haha. But, my goal was always to be transparent and not gate-keep because engineering and tech in general is such a gate-keeping industry with the mentality of "every one for themselves" which I didn't like.

Took a long at your LinkedIn, I’m by no means a hiring manager but here are a few reasons why you probably didn’t get the job offer 1. Internships, you did quite a few internships but none were with any major players just start up. 2. Bloated experiences, you are 25 with 16 job experiences lasting from 2 months no longer than 2 years. Looks like job hopping/ resume padding 3. Maybe the content creation?
@josephkozlowski684

I think content creation could be a factor and also i haven’t looked at the linkedin but if there are so many jobs you may be right and recruiters might see that as a red flag. I’ve talked with my uncle that has commented about looking for candidates that have prolonged job experiences.

Hey, I'm doing a PhD in Computer science. The road to Professor is not masters->PhD->Prof, it is masters->PhD->Post-doc (x2)->assistant prof->associate prof->prof. Never do a PhD if you don't get a stipend. It is a long journey, so really consider whether this is for you. You don't need to do a masters just to demistify CS. MIT has online lectures on youtube. I would recommend watching MIT 6.006, MIT 6.851, MIT 6.172, and MIT 6.S191. If that does not seem to be what you expected, don't do a CS masters.

I'll share my advice for Tamer, but mostly for all the young engineers watching his videos. Everyone wants to work for Apple, Google, Facebook, etc., but the reality is you don't NEED to work in California to be successful. I graduated from Auburn University in Alabama, one of the best engineering schools in the southeast, and went to go work for defense contractors in 2017. SAIC, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, etc.. There are GREAT opportunities for engineers to find stable work outside of California. I know Cali or FANG is the "pinnacle of success" for young developers, but there's so much more out there making $100k with VERY CHEAP costs of living. For you Tamer, I would suggest if you are looking for that stable ground, defense contracting is going NOWHERE. The military is always begging for the next best thing. At least travel to Virginia, Florida, Alabama, Texas and take a look at the cities and give it a shot. Nothing to lose.

I am 29, just moved to a new country. Basically starting over. My advice is try not to focus too much on the things you don't have control over. You are a smart guy, keep your head up.

Tamer I’ve been a long time viewer, you helped me make my decision back in high school on what I wanted to study and I ended up picking cs. I’m fortunate enough to be working in my field Alhamduilah however it’s only at a mid size company. My best advice to you is to pick up a masters in anything software or computer engineering related. I work with so many people from different backgrounds but one thing in common is that we all finished our education in a technology related degree. Whether it’s a bachelors, masters or even a phd! Even I’m interested in getting a masters from Waterloo since it’s the best engineering school in Canada and it’ll help me out with my future job hunts. Inshallah you get something good!

Master's in something software is def something I'm really leaning into. I just want to be a more well-rounded engineer in terms of having both hardware and software under my belt.

@@TamerShaheen if you are looking for a stable income, we have a lot of engineering/tech companies here in Ottawa. A good healthy balance of Private/Public sector. Salary isn’t as insane as other cities ofc however it’s still enough to settle down.

For switching to software, plz don’t think it’s as ez as getting a bootcamp. These past few years competition is very high so a lot of hard work needs to be done to get a “good” job in software

Hey Tamar, I have been watching your content for the past year and i truly appreciate it. I think the business idea is absolutely something you should pursue, as it encompasses the teaching that you like so much and provides everyone access to knowledge just like this channel does. I am just barely going into my first year of university later this year, and i am already feeling more prepared becuase of your content. I personally would be very interested in the business, as i think it would help me get to the engineering positions i want. You would be doing not only yourself but also me and a ton of other people a favor by starting this business. I understand that stability is something you value very much right now, but from my understanding, you will be the most stable a few years after you start your own business. Good luck in whatever path you may pursue. I will keep checking up on you on this channel, so you better post! Have a good one.

I have almost no tech job experience, but through my experience in clubs, I changed from wanting to work at Intel or Nvidia to a medium sized company. Not too big, competing for non-sense performance reviews, stuck with the brainless jobs, but not to small, volatile with too much on your plate. Stable company, but actively looking for people who genuinely like to create. I’m currently in 12th grade. I’m terrible at testing, but I can’t stand tasks that are repetitive or “too easy”. I might not get into the unis I was hoping for, but in the end, I know what I want and don’t need to go anywhere specific to achieve them. Don’t get to stuck on anything to huge or small. Follow the opportunities given to you and something will come up for you. I know it. Best of luck!

Hey, just remember that you’re still so young! I know it’s difficult to put how young you are in perspective of other people, but trust me, you have time! You’re doing pretty well for yourself so far. I’m going to be 35 this year and I had to stop going to school for M.E. But I know I’ll go back eventually. Time isn’t a factor for you right now.

I'm a 25-year-old mechanical engineer who was recently let go from my job. I'm using this opportunity to transition into software development. Your concept for a platform dedicated to mechanical engineering is fantastic as finding reliable resources in this field can be challenging and often relies on textbooks or word of mouth. Keep your spirits up, life is full of doors!

Given your age do the following: - Go into a Masters program (preferably Engineering/Science) - Get an internship role in FAANG - Excel in this role to increase your chances in converting into a FT hire You are at an advantage with your job experience so kudos for that. Alternatively, go all in your entrepreneurial journey. Build something that has impact and usefulness to your users. This is will certainly make you stand out.

I've heard Apple likes keeping projects very confidential and kinda don't like employees on social media. Do you think that could be one of the reasons you're not passing Apple interviews?🤔
@TamerShaheen
@TamerShaheen 5 месяцев назад
I sure hope that's not the case. But obv I know how secretive Apple can be. So, if I get a job there, I won't be talking about my work or projects.
