Hey and welcome back for Episode Four of Adventures in Milsurp/Milsurp Mondays. For today's video, we'll be taking a look at an Austrian Army or Bundesheer M65 Field Jacket. The jacket is from an early 2000s production run and the color RAL 7013, a brown grey color. It entered service in the Austrian military in 1975 as part of the adoption of the Anzug '75 system. It has seen few alterations over the years, but is now being surplused in favor of something new. Join us as we learn the history behind the M65 field jacket, and look at what the new uniforms and patterns that the future might bring for the Bundesheer.

My guess why M65 jackets don't feature in many Vietnam movies is simply that the weather was too warm during shooting for it to be practical.

Hi! Austrian here. If you want a really nice jacket there is a fleece jacket of the KAZ 03 that is really confortabe. (there is a reason for it being the most lost/misplaced/stolen item by recruits)

@@blrdgg6571 You have to get it! We call it "Pezi" and it is the most beloved piece of clothing in the army, absolutely legendary status! Make sure to get the alpine version, it's got zippers in the arm pits.

M-65s in Southeast Asia were normally issued to units in the highlands in small numbers. Remember that Vietnam is a tropical climate, so field jackets were not really common at all..

It's pity that Austrians are influenced of shitty tendency inspired by Americans to have a shitty camouflage. In my opinion classic dark olive is the best camo for all situations (among desert of course).

Yea it really is, especially since, with exception of UF Pro, the people who are actually putting in work are going to be wearing Multicam Cryes anyways. I mean I can understand having different patterns for different environments. That seems logical, but trying to shoehorn in a universal camouflage, because the US did it and it'll give a fat contract to some textile manufacturer, is unfortunate. At least the Netherland's Fractal Pattern is applicable to their environment. If you're interested, I have a video on my channel about their new camouflage as well.

Personally I miss when the US actually use camouflage that made sense I remember back in the very early 2000s they use three color desert then replaced it with UCP which was a stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen I guess it's a good thing to make an a turnaround but to address the Austrian problem yeah I see where you're coming from it's a shame the uniform they had wasn't bad I don't see the point of changing it now it's just money down the drain also forgive the grammar I used the voice to text.

I did tested OD BDUs in this summer with my friend in the local forest turned out it was really really great. My buddy couldn't find me there. He is also a fan OD stuff. Simple and easy.

Styria is pronounced like Syria, just with the “t” slid in there. The German name is Steiermark. Also the SEK camo isn’t typically refered to as Kernöleierspeiß. It’s the new camouflage with this nickname. As pumpkinseed oil is very popular in Styria, and the camo was first issued to the Jäger Battalion 18 in Upper Styria and looks a bit like the dish.

I love how kommandostore is becoming a loved staple for surplus stuff. I've only gotten a gondola from them but I plan on getting some cool surplus. Sportsman's guide has some cools stuff too. I got a bulgrian parka that I love.

There's a great YT video on delta force Operation eagle claw modified/rigger made m65 jacket with the Operator explaining the alterations made on the M65. They dyed the jackets black and added mag pouches and different pockets ect

I have a similar jacket, but with plastic buttons all around instead of metal ones. It's got the Austrian Air Force logo as well as the Austrian Coat of Arms. I thought it may have been a bit too thick for summer service, so maybe it's a winter jacket?

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. This was my longest video so far. I had thought about splitting it up into 3 videos. I think moving forward I'll probably do that. It's easier to catch editing mistakes on the shorter videos too.

I have a question... so it's lined with Sympatex, but that's on the inside. Doesn't the outside polyester get soaked in rain? Isn't that an issue?

That is the way they are made called laminates, the Gore-tex/Sympatex layer is in the middle between a ploy/cotton outer shell and an internal shell to protect the Gore-tex/Sympatex membrane.

Me a soldier in the austrian army looking for a foreigner to insult our trash uniforms. Gotta say I'm dissapointed. The buttons break the croch splits revealing the privates( happened to a DI still lmao) if you kneel, it does'protect you legs from pinching objects like sticks stones, plants etc, after a while it becomes dark green cs the sweat gets stuck altho not as bad. No back pockets, as a matter of fact even the front pockets suck, I had a comrade stuff all his 9mm bullets and it just went down his foot right in the gutter, ngl it was so hilarious that he didn't even get extra punishment, besides a few pushups and some comments. Only good thing are the amount of pockets and the armpits which has cut holes for your sweat.

The M65 was phased out with the KAz75. The KAz03 had a new, slightly different Jacket.

It’s Americanisation of European forces. The majority of NATO member’s armies such as the UK etc are all now using US patented gear from helmets down to boots. Some units, if it weren’t for insignia or other minor details, are becoming indistinguishable from American infantry units.

What is the difference between their Alpine Gore-Tex jacket versus their M65 Gore-Tex field jacket ?

@@gold8857 I have both now, the Gore-Tex M65 is heavier than the Alpine Gore-Tex jacket. The M65 is a knee length coat and the Alpine is waist length jacket.

@@gold8857 The Alpine is designed to be used as a Gore-Tex hard shell to be worn over garments like wool flannel or poly cotton combat shirts which is how most of the world's military clothing system is now modeled on. They shouldve gone with the OCP uniforms if they really wanted to change. It works well in all sorts of environments on top of being widely used among a lot of countries. Their new uniform looks cheap and it doesnt look like itll be able to blend in with any sort of environment. I guess they didnt learn from the US Armys last uniform that was a huge failure

@@gold8857 yes. i realized it later. fortunately i managed to get , old type field shirt, old type pants, fleece jacket and 2 m65 jackets ( 1 gore tex, 1 normal) in sizes 88 u 92 v vi. Austrian m65 is designed as a parka so it should be long. In m65 jackets v vi long sleeves may be a little problem, you can move button and pin it in other place and make sleeves comfortable for your hand. Austrian buttons are very good, you can pin them very strong, and regulation here is done well.

I’m pretty sure most of the homies were just wearing tank tops and cut offs during Vietnam. I feel like that’s the only war that was so cheesy and egotisticallly and selfishly American that the historical aesthetic actually outdoes the Hollywood version in terms of obscurity and ridiculousness.

Simple, it was too damn hot in those movies. Likely didnt take place during cooler months. Just like you wouldnt see guts in the gore tex and fleece in the afghan lowlands in summer but move up elevation and you do.
