Why is the Jeep Commander overlooked as one of the best? Overlanding capable!

It's time to start the work on the Commander. The long-term plan is to set this thing up for Overlanding, but I'm cheap so this will be very budget-minded. In this video, we finish the upgrade to the headlights that the PO started with these terrible eBay housings, but fitted with MarsAuto 6000k LED bulbs. A bit of grille "subduing" and some light maintenance round out the day!

I think satin black or even glossy would look better than matte black as it would sort of blend with the headlights, but nice job nonetheless. I finally bought a 2007 Commander last month, was looking to buy one for a few months already as I really dig the boxy design, it reminds me of my XJ, just a lot bigger lol. I had some 265/65 R17 all terrain tires installed, now trying to find courage to paint the wheels black, but with the weather getting colder it's going to be tough. Anyway, this Commanders are some underrated Jeeps, they're awesome, but than again, other than Wranglers most Jeeps seems underrated

It's more because I had to use the bed liner for that rough finish. Unfortunately it only comes out pretty matte initially, but settled to a satin

Looking good. I have an 07, I'm working on blacking out everything I possibly can. My Jeeps Grey. If you haven't already, try the rear blacked out lights. They're sweet!

It was overlooked initially because of price and having to sacrifice cargo for a 3rd row. Could get a suburban for the same price. Because of it being awd and ifs the aftermarket offroad looked past it. Same reason the wjs with the full time awd are overlooked. I love the commander. It's a beast in the snow. It can do decent off road but it will never be as capable as a xj zj or wj unless you drop a ton of money into it. They are definitely a hidden gem for overlanding.

In order to turn anyone of those into a " beast" you're going to spending a lot of coin since it costs a lot of money to turn anything into a " beast" ... You won't have a d30 front under a beast or a d44 rear ;-)

The front ifs is really the only thing different but the vehicles you mentioned xj zj wj all have shitty axles as well I mean if you're building an off-road beast you're not keeping a d30 and 8.25 or the stock 231 or the stock suspension and you're going to be cutting so I'd say it takes the same money with all of them to build that extreme rig .

Hello sorry for my English... I follow your headlights led bulb advice. They are nice!!! But I have an issue. When I turn off lights with the engine running the lights remain dull flickering on. If I turn off the 2008 jeep commander 5.7 they remain dull flickering on for a few secs. Did you experience that behavior? Thanks in advance

Hey, thanks for watching! I run 265/70 R17 with spacers. They still rub in the front, I need to change to the lift control arms.

@@ManleyMachines Thanks for the answer. Your commander looks really good with these tires. I also like your modifications. I'm from Germany. Half a year ago I also bought a Commander 5.7 hemi. It's not easy to get the special parts here. Meanwhile I have installed a 2 inch lift kit and 1.5 inch spacer. And of course flowmaster exhaust 😏. Now I am looking for suitable tires.

@@Alias-AS379 Hello Alex. I'm from the Netherlands, and I bought me a Commander too last year. I can't find any lift kits or flowmasters here, so if you don't mind telling me, where'd you get yours? German websites are ok, I can read German perfectly fine, just not write it without thinking a whole lot.

@@1973Raido Hello commander friend, I assembled my exhaust system from individual parts. I ordered the flange, the pipe and the clamps from "Rockauto". The muffler is a Flowmaster FlowFX 2.5 inch. ordered from ebay. The whole thing is pretty loud and bassy. But I would like to switch to a complete system from "MBRP" 3 inch soon. It's supposed to be quite good. Lift kit is also from ebay. Simple spacers - 2 inches on the rear axle and 1 inch on the front. There are many videos on youtube how to mount these spacers.

Those are factory! The tires are a 275 60 17 BFG A/T. I'm looking to switch to a soft 8 soon.

Overland or limited..it doesn't matter jeep cars are still junk. I just got rid of 2009 jeep commander overland 5.7 because of non stop problems. Engine, transportation ( especially transportation 😡) and the stupid design making it too close to the ground sharing the platform with grand Cherokee 😡 It's supposed to be a 4x4 monster and comander, but it was a disaster. Then let's come to how expenssive are it's spare parts and how mopar control that in a bitchy way 😡 And if you live somewhere other than Canada and the US then it'll be very difficult to find spareparts and you'll pay extra to order parts online from the US. Take my advice .. before you buy a car a truck an suv .... ask about how available are spare parts in your country and how expenssive. Close your eyes and go for a Toyota and you will never regret. I loved jeep but I have to move to Toyota the vehicle that will never surprise you with bad news in the worse times and circumstances. Sorry for writing mistakes, English is not my mother language 🙏
