Why is the Murder of Indian Women Going Unpunished? 

I'm Jamaican who was betrayed and abused by an Indian man I was scared to leave because he always threatened that he would kill me but I got the strength to leave .Im alive for a purpose and I'll do everything in my power to help women in India ,you deserve to be loved .

Why the hell should a girl's dowry be given to her in-laws???? Its her inheritance!!

Brought tears into my eyes for burning of the young bride. Women are born to be love not to burn. May Allah Have his mercy upon all his creation either if they are from male or female category.

In my culture, we provide for our wives... This is insane.

I am a true example of this, we don't live with my in-laws but my husband who is an Indian divorced me because of the dowry, and one of his reasons is that I cannot make him and his family rich. I got beatings before but I got a PFA, now I'm free to start on my own. He will re-marry to get a biger dowry now that he a US citizen he can get a few million Rupees because his value is higher that he can bring his new Indian bride to America. I believe in KARMA, and GOD sees everything.

One other thing I have noticed, it is seeming that the parents of these girls are really keeping them naive. Did you hear the 20 year old girl say that people her age are not eqipped to make decisions, that her parents must make them for her??? Not to mention she believes you truely know a person after 2 or 3 times of meeting them?? No you get to know a person by living with them. Before getting married, you live with them and learn who they TRUELY are, you cannot know that after meeting them 2x

Seriously, these are some of the most beautiful people on Earth and not only do they have to, give dowry, they have to keep giving dowry, get married early, do all the work, get harassed in the house, get harassed outside the house, get raped, get killed, take the beating, bear the child, take a beating for bearing a female child. India has too many men as it is and this is what happen to girls? Shouldn't men be competing for girls and giving the dowry? This is against market principles, against math. Being Asian, why the hell do we not count them as one of us? Their math is pathetic! I feel sorry for Indian girls and hope they find someone worthy. And seriously, what the hell are the mother and sister in law doing?

You missed the rest of the verse. Esphesians 5 in the Bible says "...husbands should love their wives like Christ loved the church, sacrificing everything for her". I'm sorry I see zero sacrificing on some of these husband's parts. Christ suffered and died for his bride. You can say just the opposite here.

I find it interesting the parents consult astrology to be sure of a match. After two really bad marriages I investigated my boyfriend (whom had walked right by me when I visited London in 1977 and I have a picture of it) using Japanese, Chinese and American astrology. We have now been happily married for several years and we bring each other good luck in finance and respect and appreciation and social situations.

unless you experience the culture you won't understand what the customs are. as someone from India (and a girl) i understand where this is coming from. i know that we need to change our country and its mindset, but just saying what a horrible country India is won't help. Changing a culture that is this old is going to take so many more women standing up to society and getting rid of demeaning things like dowries. Its wrong and utterly disgusting!

My point is, physical violence is not the answer. A lot of people are having negative stereotypes because of this act of violence against women. It is one thing to yell at a woman, if she didn't do her part. But to hit her, is very wrong. Women shouldn't be abusive towards men either. Deal with each other by implementing other ways than hitting.

It is not the dowry killing these women... It is the inability of getting divorce from the women force men to be cruel. No divorce is granted with no fault of either side. The fault is very difficult to prove.

there are laws, but they are not applied, which means they are unuseful. Maybe a try to apply them would help? There is a lack of 163 millions women in Asia (not only India). Babies girls are aborted, or killed at birth, or victims of child neglect. It's real, and it's not just an imaginary thing of women having fun of making men guilty to pissed them of.

I am not personally against women, but there are so many laws to protect women that these stupid videos are not funny anymore, in India for dowry a man and his ENTIRE family (including all women in family/mother/sisters) except his dog can be arrested for taking dowry by mere a complaint and its a non bailable offence now where is the need to cry for women giving dowry. They do U__U Dowry is illegal in India since 1961 under the The Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961. But... due to the complex culture, custom, religious and social caste system... majority of people in the lower and upper class family still continuing practice dowry.

If the dowry is not enough, don't get married with the girl! What the.....! You accept the wife, and then change your mind, you think you were worth more money, then give back the girl and the money back! What, you get to keep the money you don't think is enough so the marriage is not valid for you? If its not valid, then the money and the girl should be given back ! What kind of consumer interaction, buying selling goes like this? If its valid, you have accepted it, its illogical that you both consider marriage valid and don't give back her and the dowry she had bought with her back to her family, and not valid that you burn her. if you think the goods offered are not according to the agreement then you think the marrige is invalid, because this was not the agreement. If you haven't accepted her and don't want her, so marriage is not valid, how dare you burn another family's property and keep the dowry to boot? And the people giving the girls how dare they let people both burn the goods thus don't give it back, and dont give back the accessories the good was sold with(here its dowry)? when the buying selling is considered invalid. This is clearly not marriage because they deem the women's life theirs to do what they will. So the court dealing with these should be the same court dealing with business interactions, especially trying to give back the damaged goods part. Clearly the woman is not human here, she is a good, so both burning the good that you by proxy of this being a marriage promised the girls family grandkids and take care of said grandkids at the least, the husband is both damaging the good and not only that, damaging so much that ist impossible to sell it again (dead); not doing his part of the equation (no grandkids to look after the grandparents), and not giving the thing they didn't deem worthy to themselves (here the dowry). The judges would have such a field day with those thieves.

The dowry reached the poorer classes of people who abuse it. A groom demands before marriage can set the brides family back 40,000+ causing the father to go to the money lender. The dowry is leagl, but abused:( The rich had the dowry first influencing the lesser income peoples into practicing it.. The dowry is okay if a family can afford it, but if not I believe a marriage should take place regarless.

The problem does not generate from in-laws commiting thses horrendus crimes but from parents who falsly think that comsumer goods and money will make their daughter's life happy and better beginnig. That is where the greedy becomes more greedy. Also, parents need to empower their daughters'so that when abuse is felt they are able to stand up for themselves and not look at anyone else or the LAW for help. I believe there is no law in India. Its all for money and money for all.

Dowry IS illegal in India! Except...there are a lot of ways around the weak weak law in India

Then it comes to reason that there would be fewer atheists in prison. Unfortunate but true. I have a girlfriend that does a Bible study at a men's prison in CA, many sincerely repent of the harm they caused others. She's been volunteering there for over 15 years. Once released most do not come back which is good. Not to say atheists return or anything. But this makes sense now.
