Visually....this is my favorite fighting game series. This universe feels fully visually realized and there is personality just oozing out of everything while also not taking itself so seriously it drifts into edgelord (the goofy "burnt" animations, Victor falling to pieces if he's knocked down, etc.) Sasquatch was my main...just cuz his jumping fierce is a double axehandle that does a hard (immediate) knockdown, which I always found funny.
Phobos is called huitzil in the western version, it comes from Huitzilopochtli, the god of war, solar dedication and patron of the Mexicas. Phobos is also related to war as he is the son of Ares and Aphrodite, being the personification of fear and terror. Free random fact
I was just playing arcade mode of this game the other day and thought it was crazy hard, but I'm a scrub. It makes me feel a little better to see Justin struggle with it too.
One of my favorite things about the Darkstalkers games is it’s amazing animation. I especially love how the sprites are animated using the 12 principles of animation.
Yeah... the 1st game was designed to steal quarters when it comes to the difficulty, that moment when Victor 3 jabbed you was pretty much the SSF2T AI damage boost in action. Edit: Yeah, Huitzil in Japan is known as Phobos, and I forgot both Huitzil and Pyron have infinite Super meter (or rather infinite+invisible) because they're boss characters and unplayable until Nightwarriors... also both of them doing chip damage with their normals... reminds me a lot of World Heroes Jet were EVERY SINGLE ATTACK does chip damage.
There’s way too many better obscure fighting games out there than eternal champions. I’d rather play the data east fighting games like fighters history or outlaws of the lost dynasty or it’s much better update suiku enbu fuunsaki
Still mindblown over the fact Capcom hasn’t incorporated Darkstalker characters into their other franchises more. Or continued to develop it as its own franchise. Such iconic characters. Still waiting for a modern Darkstalkers. The waifu power alone will make it popular.
It's one of the few Capcom series where they actually tried on the plot then didn't put most of it in the games, and all their recent re-releases are arcade ports that don't have the full character roster. They created a franchise of infinite potential and just as many bullets to shoot themselves in the foot.
This game is a piece of art. I remember when it comes to our arcades. With today's technology we can watch it in slow motion and appreciate all the funny animations 😆😁
I’m writing a story largely inspired by games like Darkstalkers and Lunar Silver Star Story among other of their like. The general consensus is it’s a story surrounding two groups of original characters with different ultimate goals beliefs however come together to defeat an ultimate evil that threatens all in a world mixed with Universal monsters, fairytale, fable and penny dreadful characters. It will be significantly darker than Darkstalkers and others truer to the old fairytales and original stories of the books but be filled with action and romance like Lunar and the Van Helsing movie. Hopefully someday you guys can read watch and play it.
My older brother showed me this game on a deluxe cab at Country Club Lanes in Sacramento. I fell in love with it instantly! I remember him pumping in tokens, adjusting his strategy to finally take down Pyron with Lord Rapter/Zabel!! People cheered to see him stick with it. It was great! Then our local Godfather's Pizza got it in. Me and a group of friends would play it almost everyday after school. I learned the raging demon input here first with Morrigan! Capcom's greatest fighting games series bar none.
Great to see you play this game! When the collection released I started playing The Night Warriors Arcade with every Character on max difficulty and every single character took many many tries and my average time to beat the Arcade is probably over 90 minutes (except when using the bosses that took 15 minutes)
Demitri's fireball (Chaos Flare) somehow got nerfed in DS3 (Vampire Savior, Vampire Hunter 2 , Vampire Savior 2) as it was replaced by a bat. But still he's a good character to play.
It's absolute garbage in 3. Which is odd because canon dictates that he became more powerful after draining pyrons life force. Which is the ONLY reason he was able to face Jeddah.
For those who never played the original Darkstalkers, Pyron was the kind of boss that gives Street Fighter 3's Gill a run for his money in terms of crazy hard bosses.
I've been playing Capcom Fighting Collection on Switch, and played through the Darkstalkers games as Demitri too. Hate how his fireball got nerfed to a tiny bat in Vampire Savior (D3). 🙄 Capcom clearly wanted Morrigan to be the "Ryu" of the series, but it'll always be Demitri for me. 😎
Dmitri's Ryu, he's the main character. Morrigan is the Ken, she was even originally designed as a female vampire. Even this game doesn't play up her sexiness, sticking more to the evil corruptor angle. But uh, sexy devil > vampire monster I guess.
@@TonyJenn Yes, late in development they decided to change her from vampire to succubus. My point was she was never the main character but rather a variant. But she turned out to be way more popular.
Yo, this game broke the fight game code and unleashed everything we’ve come to know and love about combo systems! This is by far the most underrated fighter ever!!!deserves more ❤️Also the first with EX moves!!
Man I played this back when you had to go to the doughnut shops to play fighters! Amazing animation and detailed character design which still holds up to this day. The only game that held a candle to it in those areas was Samurai Shodown 1/2. Hard, unforgiving AI to freestyle, but very susceptible to spamming fireballs and patterns, which made watching scrubs beat the game interminable. I know Justin loves the shoto spammers for these vids, but Aulbath/Rikuo and Felicia are much better against the AI in this one. Rikuo especially was a beast and it seemed they had to keep nerfing him after this game.
I remember these games on KAWAKS at least 15 years ago lol. Vampire Savior so fucking brutal, yet cheap as hell. They're more of a novelty nowadays. Cps2 days were so awesome
I agree with Justin's statement about DarkStalkers being difficult, I've played the collection in Capcom Fighting Collection and I have to say both Warzard/Red Earth and DarkStalkers are both equally difficult.
At around the fourth opponent, the difficulty just abruptly spikes and now the CPU just input reads and hard counters everything you do and it gets so frustrating with how obvious it cheats you Saving grace is that the Capcom Fighting Collection can just let you cheese it all by playing as Pyron and Huitzil
Just so those who don’t know now do, technically Morrigan isn’t the main character of Darkstalkers. Dimitri is. Although Morrigan is like the secondary protagonist right behind him. As far as Demitri’s unblockable super, it’s basically a moving throw, similar to Akuma’s Raging Demon. So it is unblockable, but isn’t necessarily safe to use in a lot of circumstances
I think it was reverse buttons from the raging demon, LK,LK,>,MP,HK or maybe the same as raging demon but back instead of foward. Some characters uses this input I believe, like Gallon for the claw special.
Rikuo is like the game's own Don Flamenco, in which he's capable of blocking the player's moves constantly until they're completely open for an attack. :P
Listen, I love the Darkstalkers series. I’m talking enough to import that Japanese collection on PS2 that came out well before the Capcom Fighting Collection. But I absolutely do not mess with the first game in the series. The difficulty balance in the first game is way off compared with the rest of the series. You can tell they fixed that in Nightwarriors almost immediately. Thank God.
getting the achievement for capcom collection beating all games, i definitely had some trouble with a couple of the DS games. Especially the yeti and final bosses. ended up having to use yeti myself to beat them. the last few entries were crazy easy though which was odd.
Darkstalkers Resssurection was a "Capcom Test" last decade. It didn't sell well enough. Hopefully the Capcom Fighting Collection sells well enough to convince Capcom to try again.
Why do we keep begging for these games? They never sold well enough to even warrant a trilogy. Capcom is in the business of making money, not appeasing a niche group of fighting game fans.
I really wish Capcom would do something with this property, rather than let it rot in the 90's. There is so much potential and I think the interest is there.
0:05 you can do that super out of a forward dash...his forward dash seems to have a slight invulnerability window that you can motion during pop out of with super
Oh thank God I’m not the only person that thought the cpu was hard in this game. I struggled with it every time and I thought somehow I was just a scrub
When the computer decides to rush u down in this game its over lol its literally like if it decides to let u win or not thats how it feels to play this game unless you know the ultimate cheese which i do but thats boring so i just rush the cpu and it decides if it lets me win or not lol
Capcom made a fighting game way ahead of its time. Someday we'll get a new game, but I don't think that's going to happen, unless the Fighting Game Collection sold well.
The Darkstalkers games are famous for their difficulty. Even on the easiest setting, they're no joke (it's still managable to play through without to loose a fight, but it's harder than in others). But once you know how it works, they're great games!
I love the Vanpire series. Just broke out my 360 the other day to play Darkstalkers resurrection. With the big 3 losing steam i think it would be a time for capcom to look at a secondary property like DS to keep the genre diverse. Just my opinion.
It's the mid 90's, so of course the AI in the arcade mode is supposed to be BS! ...and the same goes for Hunter (Night Warriors), which is why I stick to Savior. That was when the AI was somewhat easier to beat. Doesn't really help that the original Vampire (Darkstalkers) had some strange inputs that got fixed somewhat in Hunter and more so in Savior.
This was way harder than I used to remember it in arcades. Even at the normal speed setting 2 is a tad difficult with this re-release. Sooo um....puzzle fighter anyone? x.x
