Playing one of the first rhythm games ever to exist and the timing on this is actually unnecessarily strict... probably because it was supposed to be on an crt or something but it is what it is.

The second parappa game is technically "UmJammerLammy" which hosts a new protagonist instead of parappa. I really recommend it! The timing is less strict imo too

The games's gas, but it definitely takes a bit to learn. I played the PS4 remaster a month or so ago and you're absolutely right, this shit is extremely strict. Even if you can't vibe with the gameplay, you'll definitely enjoy either the art or the music

original parappa has slight input delay, but the PS4 remaster is emulated, giving it even More input delay & making it much jankier. stage 4 (cheap cheap) is notorious for being the hardest level in the game bc the timing is so strict compared to the others, though i’m sure stage 5 (full tank) is its rival (once spent like 2 hours trying to beat it lol). parappa 2 is much more forgiving haha

The freestyle rule always felt like bullshit to me, but playing this with the homies high and/or drunk is some of the best things you could do

I am so excited for when you play Um Jammer Lammy. As a fan of the PaRappa franchise for almost 6 years, lemme tell you: Um Jammer Lammy is gonna be harder if you are not experienced with rhythm games, especially stage 6, so get ready.

Rhythm games were never the problem this game is just evil. They say you’re supposed to kinda freestyle but it’s never really implied outside of the cool rating and even then I’m still lost on what the game considers “cool”

The funniest thing about this is how he learned that freestyling a bit would help his score in the beginning of the game, which had me hoping he would get to experience the COOL mode mechanic, but he forgets all about it after that level.

Haven't watched the video yet but to answer the question it's cuz you're not supposed to follow the patterns exactly. You're supposed to figure out your own freestyle combinations to play off of the base.
