Things got real really fast with the combination. The toys don't seem THAT bad from a technical standpoint (ignoring they are LEGO) but it's so easy to cross into "I'm not sleeping anymore to avoid the nightmares" territory with them.

If I were 8 again, I'm pretty sure that I'd get a decent kick out of it. Just compare it with action figure lines of other brands. The quality was there; the materials used, the execution, the level of detail, the durability. The interchangeability of limbs, gizmos and others, based on the Technic's pin&socket system, added MASSIVELY to the toys' playability and encouraged the kids' (bonkers side of their) imagination and creativity. Plus they added some lovely well-performing play features. Plus the range of motion of those figures was, and still is, a lot above average. The main (and possibly only) thing that most people have a TRUE problem with is that it was produced by the Lego Group and that is basically it. If this was made by Mattel or Hasbro, by far not that many people would have probs with it. So it kinda stinks with "purists" and "gatekeepers" here, I guess. :-)

I know there are purists who trip on these as LEGO products, but as toys separate from TLG’s legacy, they’re pretty awesome. I’m glad you approached the review from that POV and named your bias. It does end up overpowering you...ha. Seriously though, imho these are cool toys that suffered from a cheesy tv show at a time when kids programming was hitting a low point. If they had a cool traditionally animated show like the mid to late 80s, this could’ve been huge. The robot and alien figs are badass, and even the human fig sculpt was cool for the time. I’d argue that face is better than the Han, Rey, and Finn build-a-figure heads. And counterpoint, I knew so many kids that were into kit bashing and mutilating (I guess we say “customizing” now) their action figures, so these crazy monstrous creations actually had play value. Anyhoo, cool to see you review these.
@BrickSomething

Follow-up to my comment. Galidor was not on my radar when it came out. I’d seen these in the wild over the years and heard folks dissing it. Your review was the first real look at the line. I had Galidor sets when I was a kid, although my interest in Galidor didn't last for very long. Only for probably a year. I think I first got the toys from McDonalds and then wanted to get the larger sets. Some of them I did get for Christmas by request, although I didn't get every set I asked for, at least for the time being. A few years ago, I want attempting to try and sell my old Galidor stuff on Ebay because I was ready to let them all go, but I was not successful with even one sale. Although the parts did have a few chewed bits and even some parts were completely broken all together, so being able to sell the whole thing wouldn't be possible for all of them. I am not sure if I still have them around or if my family got rid of them in one way or another. I also never saw the live action TV series since at the time, I was living somewhere where we didn't have cable and there were only a few TV channels with kid shows, one of which was the only one to do so five days a week.

when I was a kid, I was given a large box of Bionicle, Technic, and Galidor. I fell in love with Bionicle, respected the Technic even though it was far too advanced for me at the time, and the galidor, after many years, ended up being totally mashed into dust with a hammer. no regrets. I feel that if they had proper, reusable people parts, then at least adult MOCers would be able to make some cool stuff with them, but I can also see it becoming a mess for kids. I was mostly fine with the look of the star wars heads, but I do wish you could seperate the head/hair with those and swap them, without that, then this part is forever Luke, and this part is forever Jyn Erso, and you can't reuse those parts unless you're gonna try to make a better figure of that character. stinks when Lego isn't Lego

I’m a big Galidor fan! They’re great quality products, and I have them all. Even the rare Tager and Aquart. Very happy to have the while line! Good job on your review, btw
