Earth observatories can't look at it anymore, but as Brian says, a hunting mission could be funded, sending a satellite with the biggest and fastest ion engine ever made, and shot straight into Oumuamua's last position. The damned object can't be that far away, it's still within the Solar system, we can track it down and photograph the heck of it in a flyby mission, it's just a matter of money

Normally, i will agreed of this is Avi Loab, who was proved time and time again he cares about his sensation ideas more then the actual science. He is an embarrassment to all of science.

No way it's outside our solar system. It only got past Pluto in dec 22. Wont reach interstellar space til another year or so.

Urgency for viewing from ground-based telescopes was vital to get the best data. @stufromoz8164 .. You have no idea. The data shows to 90% certainty that Oumuamua is "pancake" shaped, roughly. .. Avi Loeb has stated this very clearly. .. I know the math. .. I agree that the artists always screw things up.

You are correct. You would think that Avi with the millions of funding could have an artist impression made of a reddish metallic rectangular shape and not some silly cigar shape rock which we KNOW is impossible for nature to form or morph organically. Moreover, I notices all flight trajectory animations never display the static viewpoint of our inner planets, in which you see correctly Oumuamua intercept specifically and only Earth at a very unnatural angle. No we see some phancy panning out perspective of Oumumua’s passing obscuring its remarkable encounter with Earth. I find these intentionally misleading and I think Avi should improve on these visuals to strengthen his case. The general public looks at images first and words later. Finally, I would also appriciate someone would mention, we Only saw Oumumua leaving our proximiry, so technically we never saw an inbound trajectory in the first place. So all inbound trajectories animations are misleading in that respect as well. I understood that IF Oumumua ever was close to its perihelion it should have been visible , certainly for the stereo 1a ST. But we didnt . So in all, a lot to answer, also by Avi…?

Why would anyone with a solid science background like Brian Keating be jealous of a boastful, tantrum-pitching gasbag like Avi Loeb, whose self-importance and ego are built on a carefully created public image, and churned out writing?. With that level of Avi-promotion, I'd be shocked if he didn't get as much media attention as he does.

Any foreign shiny and rectangular extrastellar object, intercepting Earth ( and ONLY Earth) within 24 million km, of our 960 million long orbit (!!) around our Sun MUST have the default tagging of ‘Intentional’ passage, and require we’d go after it to get more info. Alternatively, we would NOT go after it, if we already knew what it was. Thats scenario becomes more lieky , once we realise we did NOT see it have an incoming trajectory in the first place. If it didnt have and incoming trajectory, the proximity to earth would make more sense, as it left us from a static position. E.g far side of the moon, a Lagrange point (soon to be occupied by JWST) or the like. In this case we have a simple,flat outgoing trajectory, and the accelerstion makes sense. Options my fellow humans, options.
