Sabrina's success story this year truly is the definition of how hard work, patience, and determination will pay off! Seriously, she went from being an under-the-radar Disney star with 4 albums that didnt do much in terms of numbers to then receiving an egregious amount of hate and death threats over some petty relationship triangle drama to NOW HAVING 2 GLOBAL #1 SINGLES AND PEOPLE SCREAMING THE LYRICS TO HER SONGS ALL AROUND THE WORLD!! That is truly spectacular! She's really had that main pop girl status potential for a while now, and I couldnt be more happier that people (including me cause I hopped on the train late too LMFAO) are FINALLY starting to realize that! 😊
Honestly, I think between the patience and the hard work was also a matter of timing. Sabrina always felt either right ahead or slightly behind but now she’s right on time! I’m genuinely glad she’s gotten her justice though. The lopsided hate she got during 2021 was just… not it. Re: being late (which happened to me), better late than never!!!
I think all of Sabrina’s albums are incredible and I think her success is well deserved. I just strongly resent the fact that she got a lot of hate before her album release and new found success. She didn’t deserve that.
I’m sure the same people that probably bashed her online are now blasting her album and calling themselves fans. So glad I’m a lot older and missed that whole Disney drama. Never even heard of Sabrina until Espresso but I already find her pretty amazing as an artist.
It's such a crazy feeling when you've been following an artist ever since they were "underground" and then all of a sudden they start blowing up and getting all this mainstream attention, it's like DUDE where did y'all come from??? 😶🌫️
omg i feel the same. to me she was always A list / mainstream but now that she's really huge you can feel the difference. i still wanna gatekeep her tho
@Luci-vp6xt they simply made a comment saying what all of us feel, that it's weird to us when our favs start gaining the attention they deserve. If anyone is the pick me here it'd be you, with ya "pick me behavior" comment. Like everyone knows pick me's try to get ppls attention by commenting "pick me" "pick me behavior" etc... its basically like you're asking for it.
me tooo. she was my favourite actor for a long time and smoke and fire was on repeat when i was like 10 lmao. then when emails i cant send was released i hopped on the sabrina pop princess train!!
Im so glad shes popping off now cause like her writing is so hilarious like nonsense and feather are just so funny and iconic and the latest singles are the same way i really think short n sweet is gonna be so good!!!
I think she really found herself authentically with the emails album. When she was rolling out the Singular Act albums, I've always felt some of the songs were forced despite a couple of them being fairly successful singles (the Saweetie collab, Diamonds Are Forever, Sue Me song, Almost Love, last two I heard on the radio a lot during its time) and she was trying to fit into what other pop acts were doing.
@@aaliyahfoster2705Singular def had a few try hard moments but those felt more experimental than sellout-y but yah Emails def felt like a songwriters record that let her gain much needed levity and freedom
I definitely see the comparison! The presence she has is why I’m shocked it took this long for her to pop! But tbh a career built over time lasts longer than one built overnight in many cases.
Sabrina also has the underdog arc that started after she was treated badly during driver's license period which takes an artist so far. And her personality is amazing. She witty and quick to replt in a humorous way
I think without that public splat, she AND Olivia may never have gotten this chance to have these career bumps and rise to their current height of pop fame.
P.S. I can't imagine how Tay Tay's fans are going to act when she starts usurping her throne for these streaming records. We've already seen how she did Olivia, I can't imagine how she's going to eviscerate Sabrina if she outshines her come Grammy time.
Its so surreal witnessing sabrina finally receiving mainstream success for a bit i thought she will always be the underrated disney girl but people are finally seeing shes more than that. I hope short n sweet will bring back bubblegum pop that the pop world needs right now. Also the Dove Cameron shade
wow - its crazy how a "rebrand" combined with a matching song sound is KEY - she blew up with this new pink pop princess look and it FLEW - her blonde playful look really made a difference, just goes to show how important the brand and look of a singer is for commercial success
I think the aesthetic change def helped but the timing of the music for sure was a key. She was already making fun sounding pop right as we pivoted back into it.
I need you to do a deep dive of emails i can’t send. It’s honestly one of the best pop albums of this decade and the way she named the deluxe version “emails i can’t send fwd:” is just so unserious yet so clever at the same time. Definitely a no-skip album
Decode is forever gonna be my favorite Sabrina's songs cause I had the craziest in a best way possible after listetning to this song obsessively an evening before. So glad for Sabrina's rise to the top!
I'm impressed by her music. It fills that yummy careless pop vibe that I desperately seek. She has excellent timing with her current releases, they are capturing spring/summer season essence perfectly. Looking forward to seeing her evolve over the next few years. So far so good! Another great video Eljohn! Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you for watching! And yes! I love how low stakes but well-made her music feels for summer time stuff! She has the chops to go deep and dark when needed but we had way too much of that since 2017.
people calling short n sweet her debut/second record made me giggle because i remembered when kim released feed the beast as her ‘debut’ when she fully had four prior albums 😭
THUG is one of my favourite books so I was BEYOND gagged to find out she was in the adaptation. But it also shows a lot of her unexpected charm since despite Hailey being a thoroughly unlikeable character, she just brings the character some life that makes her somehow easier to like. She has a really subtle IT factor.
I’m the same age as Sabrina, and I’ve been listening to her since I was 15 when I found “Eyes Wide Open“ on RU-vid! It really is cool to see Espresso make her such a viral phenomenon, and she so deserves it for her really exceptional vocal talent and overall aesthetic! Both of the Singular albums are by far my favorite; I was literally singing “In My Bed” today!
Don't forget about her on Alan Walker's 2019 song "On My Way". In my opinion that feature really changed her reputation from a Disney singer into a proper pop singer as she absolutely nailed the pitch and lyrics. I think it was by far her most popular song at that time and by far her most popular song on RU-vid and still her second on Spotify.
FINALLY been waiting for you to cover her! Sabrina has been a fave of mine since Thumbs! Seeing people hate on her only to flip lmao my taste is always proven right 😂
Please please please grows on you. I didn’t like it at the start but it’s literally been stuck in my head the last three days. I wake up in the middle of the night singing it in my head 🥲
Personally I enjoyed it more, it had the same energy while using more floaty lighter notes. I also think it had more of the type of grunge that evolution 1 and 2 were filled with
I have been a huge fan of Sabrina since Girl Meets World, so it is my dream come true getting to see her finally receive all this success!! I cannot wait for Short N' Sweet (although i do also have to say my favorite song by her is still Bad Time from Singular Act 1, that one is CRIMINALLY underrated)
2:53 this is when I REALLY started getting in to Sabrina. I already loved “Girl Meets World” & the song “Can’t Blame A Girl For Trying” & “Adventures In Babysitting” but 2016 I felt like her music was actually good & worth listening to. This album “Evolution” sealed the deal for me I’ve stayed a fan & will continue to be a fan. I’m glad she’s FINALLY getting some recognition
I really hope island records plays Chappell and Sabrina’s cards right. I don’t wanna compare, but I can see them being the future lady Gaga and Taylor swift and I just pray every day that island knows what there doing
Island probably will, but it’s down to respective management. I think Sabrina’s team (with some new players involved) will do well, Chappell’s clearly overwhelmed but thriving (saw a video of her being shook while performing at the size of her crowd.
i’ve been a fan of sabrina since 2017 (and i actually saw her live for the detour - she was my first concert ever), and seeing her get the well-deserved recognition makes me so happy for her… she’s been working so hard for over a decade 🥰
2024 is shaping up to be the year of the underrated pop darling. Sabrina getting massive success with the song of the summer after a slow and steady rise, Tinashe getting her first entry on billboard after years of grinding and Charli breaking all her personal records with the most acclaimed album of the year. Music is back y'all, it feels like anything can happen! Also, I'm obsessed with the way Americans pronounce espresso, like, where do you see the 'x'?!
Their not spending anything. autoplay is use on every popular artist and you have to stay and listen to it for 30 seconds for it to work. people think because she blew up her team is giving Spotify money but she just got proper promotion, notice how she’s popular on TikTok, RU-vid Apple Music, genius. Etc..
Great video! As a Sabrina fan since 2016 who's seen her live twice, I have to say you really did a wonderful job summarizing her career in retrospect. I've been very emotional lately seeing how she's turned into a household name, she truly deserved this years ago! I was always a little grumpy "Sue Me" wasn't her breakout single back in the day lol but I'm just glad she's getting recognition one way or another.
Sue Me was such a potential hit. Her last label… ugh… they really didn’t know how to market her at all. I had to secure those tour tickets for this era even if it’s a steep climb from last era.
I hope she stay true to her genre, I noticed so many pop suddenly changing genre just to fit the market, some went weird also doing weird looking satanic theme stuff. Please please please dont prove im right 😂
I never take those visuals or whatever seriously like it’s usually some camp thing that occasionally backfires after people get bored of it (Lil Nas X)
it's about time she's finally getting the recognition she has deserved for YEARS. i remember being so annoyed ever since i became a fan of her in her evolution era becuz she wasn't getting the recognition she deserved. so im so happy she's finally getting it
For a long time I think Sabrina just wasn't the "look" the music industry wanted to push. I think it was more so Doja Cat and Ice Spice. But Ice Spice failed to make an impression and then T-Swift took Sabrina under her wing instead. Like clockwork. That seemed to stick more. (Tyla is also the look / genre they're trying to push but she's promising so she is likely here to stay.) Granted some people were still walking past Sabrina during her opening sets, but I think her current label is actually doing their job and pushing her, and that helped make Espresso go viral. Utilizing TikTok also helped because that's how everything goes viral. just lots of viral tracks with short lifespans.
Sabrina sang the theme song for the disney show andi mack as well, was on austin and ally, and also was a voice for a charcter in sofia the first! And dont forget her song mive you from the netflix movie work it she starred in
Here's how long i've been following Sabrina Carpenter. I remember when she was the voice of Princess Vivian in the Disney Junior Series Sofia The First, my little sister use to watch that show when she was little. So i've seen Sabrina's growth for a long time.
4:37 Glad you gave a shoutout to Run and Hide! It’s one of my favourite of her earlier songs. Also, Skinny Dipping doesn’t get enough recognition. It was the first song of hers that I think truly made me realise her potential as an artist and made me go from casual admirer to hardcore fan!
Run and Hide is such a good track, the writing on it… 👨🏻🍳 💋 and agreed Skinny Dipping was an underrated little gem, people were so… harsh towards that jokey intro 😭
I've to admit that i was one of those who said that EICS was her debut just cuz Disney era records, for me, seems like unserious and commercial proyects, but after just paying attention to her as an artist, i got to see how her career was just a slow way to becoming succesful for a very long time and not just hitting success for a couple of years and then being a throwback act!!
She is a close friend of Sabrina too. During the Olivia-Joshua-Sabrina drama where Sabrina got a lot of hate from Olivias fans, Meghan was openly supporting Sabrina. Sad what happened to her career, she still sound like its 2014
I've only known her since 2022 because of randomly getting her mv of because i liked a boy recommended and then checking out her album eics out afterwards. I wasn't completely in the loop when the driver's licence stuff happened but after getting to know her story, i have been rooting for the this woman ever since. She's been working hard for so long and the first time she got mainstream attention in recent years, it was because everyone was painting her out to be as a homewrecker and olivia's worst enemy and sending her so much hate, it's amazing to me that she managed to handle all of that with the grace that she did even tho she had every right to be pissed off. Now in 2024, it seems like the world is finally catching up to what many carpenters knew since her early days, what i knew in 2022 when i first saw her mv and heard her gorgeous voice; Sabrina Carpenter is a star. So glad She's beginning to get her flowers.
2022 was honestly a perfect year to get into her: EICS dropped, tickets for her tour were actually accessible, and she was killing it quietly. I fear for Tuesday’s presale 💀
ive been here since girl meets world and i think looking at me shouldve been her smash hit, anyways i need tickets and i might have to pull some of barrys actions to get them
Ive always said this. How did her team ignore the success of that song. It immediately became a favorite for most of us fans at the time, and its one of her most popular songs, and it never became a single or got a video.
The way her music dramatically changed when switching labels and how it was Island records the label who got her, remind me of Christina Grimmie, except they droped her after one quick single in favour of the viner who shall not be named, it they got her she would very likely have had progression like this
this video was so well done! it must have taken so long to do all of this research, and your commentary is so insightful! this was such a great watch, definitely gave me some new songs to check out :)
ahhhhh thank you for walking through her world. ive been a dedicated fan since 2016 and her history is so fun and interesting. i remember smoke and fire coming out, the rollout of evolution, and following the de-tour like it was yesterday. singular is still one of my favorite projects of hers. it sucks that the thing that brought her attention was childish drama and not her genuine talent. all my favorites; SC1: your loves like, darling im a mess, white flag (walked so skin could run) SC2: feels like loneliness, run and hide, all we have is love (but honestly hard to pick) SC3/4: paris, hold tight, bad time // in my bed, pushing 20, exhale, take you back SC5: already over, how many things, fast times fruitcake: is it new years yet? (but most are in my winter playlist) so so so excited for short n' sweet and the vibe, although all this attention is a little scary as it feels like we're losing her, but maybe thats just me espresso 🤎
been a fan for her enitre career, saw her live last year and I'm so happy she is getting all the love now well deserved! she is consistent and just gets better and better! love her!
I always thought that Why would've been the song that breaks her into the main stream and if wasn't gonna be Why, then I thought it was gonna be Almost Love or Sue Me
i’ve been a fan of hers since 2015 and i’m so excited to see her finally get her flowers. i actually have two videos on my channel of me meeting her and she was the nicest person. i really hope please please please gets to number 1!
I'm so glad you got to meet her! (And I think she will but her team needs to start making remixes and doing all the tricks Taylor and other people do.)
Also her perfume receiving great reviews from the beauty and fragrances community helped her a lot. I got curious to listen to her because I bought her perfume and loved it and thought let’s see what the girl of my perfume sings which made love espresso. I think many women like me loved her perfume sweet tooth first then we listened to her music which is great too.
i've been a fan for quite a while, loved her on girl meets world & evolution was the first album i bought on apple music (lmao i never really bought anything before but i wanted to support her), and the de-tour in orlando was the first concert i ever went to by myself! i really appreciate all the research you did on this video, it's so crazy to see how much she's grown and how much she's going to grow from here on now. still sad she never got a true broadway run bc i know that's always been one of her dreams, but at least she technically did it for like 2 shows 😭 i remember 2 years ago when emails i can't send was released, i bought a signed cd and those didn't sell out for at least a week or more... she just released signed vinyls of short n sweet yesterday and it sold out in 8 minutes 😭 so happy for her as a long time fan but dang now it's ruining my chances to get her merch and her tour tickets are going to be a blood bath asdfja;lks
I loved her on Girl Meets World, but didn't pay any attention to her music (my attitude then: All the Disney girls have record deals, so why should I pay attention to this one?) But then I heard "Why" and thought "This is Really GOOD!" Since then, I've been a devoted fan, wondering with every release why she wasn't a bigger star. Look through all the Sabrina videos and reactions over the past 5+ years and you'll find the comments filled with "she's so underrated," "why is she so slept on," "deserves so much more attention" etc. The cruelest luck was when she took over the lead role in Broadway's 'Mean Girls,' but only got to do 2 performances before Covid shut down all the theaters for a year. That's why it's so satisfying to see her explode the way she has this year. She deserves it, she earned it, an 'overnight sensation' that actually took ten years, and it makes us all feel justified.
About skin, I wouldn't say it *isn't* a disstrack entirely, however i definitely wouldn't say it's a disstrack about olivia, or even joshua for that matter. the lines in the song that do directly reference olivia or the drama itself, are so forgiving and understanding, "maybe blonde was the only rhyme" "maybe we could've been friends if i met you in another life" she's literally giving excuses as to why olivia didnt mean it like that, or for this to happen, and i feel like skin is more-so a "disstrack" about the media and the internet, in the same vain as vicious and even because i liked a boy is, and saying that the media can't get under her skin with all the homewrecking allegations and name calling. *side note, i also heavily agree that skin probably wasn't a great choice to release at the time, and if because i liked a boy was written by then, it would've been a much smarter choice, however skins a great song so yk what, i'm not complaining about it being released!
@@EljohnMacaranas honestly i didn’t even think about that but yeah, i more meant it as the fact that she released a song that so heavily reads as a diss track against olivia when the internet already hated her for “wrecking” olivia’s relationship, although now that you mention it, it is generally such a shame that her first experience as an artist outside of hollywood records and disney channel was having the internet hate her and call her horrible things, it can not be easy having to in some ways start all over and rebrand yourself in the midst of all that. to be fair though, a lot of the best disney stars had controversies post disney channel and they turned out great, so as unfortunate as it is, scandal does actually help an artist sometimes.
Been so proud of her gaining attention, liked her since sue me era and thinking why this girl's not popular, singular act i & ii is a pretty solid album, and email i can't send is that seal the deal for her to be that main pop girl
It’s so sad because she’s been popping off since 2015. I’ve been listening to her since 2018 and now people are finally paying attention to her for songs that aren’t even her best.
I'M SOo GLAD TO SAY THAT I'M WITH HER SINCE DISNEY...AND WATCHING HER SLOWLY BECAME A MANE POP GIRL MAKE ME VERY PROUD❤❤❤❤❤ HERE IS SOME OF HER PREVIOUS SONGS THAT I THINK SHOULD ADD MORE SUCCES 1- THUMBS 2- IN MY BED 3- SUE ME 4- PARIS 5- ALMOST LOVE 6- EXHALE 7- FAST TIME
Espresso reminded me of teenage dream (Katy Perry) . Just the way the video looks and the sorta vibe. I think she would be really similar to Katy. Fun, versatile, and capable of having depth when wanted
That last part is why I think she’ll have longevity, like when she goes deep, she really does have substance. Sure everyone is “me espresso” now but when she comes for us with a newer ballad or a darker track, she’s already had years of experience!
I got exposed to Sabrina's talent when I first saw her performed live at the Era's tour. Her live vocal is undoubtedly amazing plus she's so damn gorgeous. I'm glad she gets the recognition she deserves now
9:47 Just gotta correct that Lie Lie Lie wasn't a response song, it was a song Joshua wrote well before Driver's License drama and was promoing / teasing before the drama as well.
She’s always been a star, I can’t blame her that’s she’s been slept on for years! From Skin, Honeymoon Fades, her album Eyes Wide Open, and some more underrated songs such as Tornado Warnings and how many things, you can tell she has so much potential. 💖
the crazy thing is, unlike chappell (whom i discovered at the beginning of june and took literally less than a day to fall in love with), i have actually been listening to sabrina for almost her entire career - i memorised every line of on purpose back in 2016-2017, and i've been around for every one of her albums since then. especially singular and emails i can't send, both of which i remember going "oh wow, sabrina's written a new album? that's cool, i'll try and get round to listening to this in the next few days". it's super odd to think she's gone from a disney star i listen to occasionally that most of my friends haven't heard of to literally the 7th largest spotify following in the world without me really noticing!
I agree with pretty much everything you said about ‘emails i can’t send’. Already Over is such a standout for me, as is Tornado Warnings. Honestly, the whole album is great. I typically don’t buy newer albums in vinyl but this one of the few that I own.
Sabrina should be the biggest of summer, year, and on and on. She’s that good. I know that she’s been actually in the business for a longtime. But, something Erie hits my stomach.. I hope she stays safe or nothing destruct comes out of all of this success of life. Lord God, let her stay with us for a full life.
Honestly, I think she has a smart team, good head on her shoulders, and the delay in getting fame has made her a pretty humble and savvy person who knows the industry well
I’m so excited to see the short and sweet stage set because eics looked GORGEOUS and her coachella set was so cool (I’m gonna implode if I don’t get a ticket)
It actually worked out perfectly for her! 💖 She was far too young to handle such a level of fame at the time. We’ve see the damage done to those who have experienced it before. So the slow rise really was the best outcome for Sabrina. Remember, slow and steady wins the race, every time. Gives her true lasting power! 👊🏼
Your point about being too young for fame is so real, I’m glad she was able to make it on her own time. She’s handling it all so gracefully, every interview is so classy!
Although I haven’t been around since the very beginning of her career (I’m 23 and Girl Meets World came out just a few years after I got too old for Disney Channel, so I didn’t know her from then), I discovered her music in 2018 and I’ve been a fan ever since. I loved her Singular project- still my favorite albums of hers-and wanted to go to one of her shows during that era but no one I knew was a fan of hers at that time-oh how the tables have turned. During the Olivia Rodrigo beef I really felt for her with all the petty hate she got; seemed like she was an easy target as at the time she didn’t have anywhere near the star status as Olivia. It’s very gratifying to see her get her moment now! I’ve been drawn to her work as it’s more unique musically and lyrically than a lot of the pop genre. Her recent music has been more ‘mainstream’ and admittedly therefore a bit less to my personal taste, but it’s really cool to see her getting the recognition she deserves. It’s always a bit bittersweet when a lesser known artist that you are a fan of becomes mainstream, on the one hand you are incredibly happy for them, and on the other you kind of wish you could still gatekeep them because it’s sort of cool to be in this small club of people that recognize talent without massive fame behind it.
That last part has been my attitude about Charli XCX as of late but I’m just glad that recognition is happening. Like honestly, seeing someone you’ve spent some time rooting for like do the things they want and become the people you always believed they were… nothing more magical.
Actually the only time I’ve liked an artist before everyone else and finally that artist returned big time I was over the moon. I didn’t react like angry, I was like yay finally will find more fans like me My artist was Paulina Rubio it wasn’t like she wasn’t well known. more the situation of she is was in a down era or break era in her career and I became a fan before her comeback with the album Paulina. I became a fan 1998-99 right after her reunion with her old group so she had no record on the charts or anything. So i hold it one year being a rare fan then in 2000 she had her comeback. It’s great finding out either a comeback artists or sort of new artists but with both we kind of feel a little arrogant on it no ?
