the worst thing about all this is that for the first time in a minute people were actually rooting for katy to be successful again, a lot were eager for this comeback... and she fucked it all up by working with dr. luke. i just don't understand.

Dr Luke was acquitted and he counter sued for defamation which resulted in Kesha dropping the charges...sooo do we know for sure he is a filthy r***st or maybe the real story could be a bit different?🤔
That’s the ironic part, the video and the marketing was at terminally online gays and girls when it would have played better with that demo who ironically adore the other big pop star of the 2010s who still doesn’t work with Dr Luke and caters directly to them (and everyone else)
The fact that Katy Perry actually thought she needed Dr. Luke to give her another hit is crazy. Gurl you only needed Max Martin to make it happen for you & the end result would be phenomenal. She dug her own grave. Katy should've seen this one coming. Tarnishing your own legacy & reputation for working with a disgraced individual is a self-sabotage. No other explanation needed.
Dr. Luke is good (won't talk about the Kesha thing, just his music), but he only brings fantastic hits when the lyrics are written by someone else. In Katy's case, it was the Luke/Bonnie mix what helped her to establish in the industry. She needed to upgrade that. I agree she didn't need Luke but not because he is a bad producer (and a terrible person, yes), but because she needed a new sound. Max Martin and Stargate would've helped her with finding a new sound.

Any kinda hope Katy and her team had for a comeback, or a Taylor Swift Folklore/Evermore resurgence was killed the minute it was announced she was working with Dr. Luke again. Imagine running back to him, only for him to give you this shitty Ava Max reject. If Katy was smart, she would’ve returned to her Pop Rock One of the Boys sound
NTM on Ava Max… but yeah, I don’t see anyone major collabing or shouting out bc they wanna avoid the controversy of it all. She could have called Dan Nigro, worked with a rock artist, anyone else, but chose the abuser… okay?!
@@EljohnMacaranas this part: "Most of all, she’s a 2010s relic, a faded pop star frantically attempting to clamber back to relevance, only to be thwarted by her inability to tell up from down. Did you know she released an album during the pandemic? Probably not." 💀💀💀
It’s giving desperation. I think she just has to accept that she’s not the type of artist that has longevity in the mainstream. And she should just make music for herself. Not everyone can be in tune with the culture for that long like Beyoncé and Taylor swift. It takes a level of self awareness and having an ear to their fan base but the current generations while still remaining authentic in what you want to do. It’s a hard balance to strike that most artists can’t. And that’s okay. Katy Perry fit perfectly in her peak. It’s okay to let it go and move on
@@EljohnMacaranas yes like just bc you aren’t commercially at your peak, doesn’t mean you can’t make good music anymore. In fact some of artists best work has been outside of their commercial peak!
@K.C-2049 that would’ve been so cool. I feel like she could try some new soulful sounds too. She has so much potential to be more than what she’s made in her 20s
@K.C-2049 i think she talked abt how there were two albums shes wanted to make a dance album and an acoustic album. 143 is supposed to be a dance album so she's gonna probably make a acoustic album that could be more folk like

I think Dark Horse is infinitely a stronger song for sure. I mean Juicy J, the way she really was at the start of trap's influence on the genre. Man, that was 10 years ago.
@@trawlins396 Neither are that old tho and why should they change who they are because of a age, it’s not like she was a covered and conservative artist in her 20s and randomly did this, this is who she’s always been
Seeing espresso (you pronounced it better) in the video makes me sad bc Katy coulda easily made a song like that and we’d eat it up but she went back to doctor luke 🤡
For months I said Sabrina Carpenter is giving major Teenage Dreams vibes. The nostalgia and tongue-in-cheek lyrics are very similar. SC is going to be a top pop artist for awhile!
I’ve never been a fan, personally, Katy is very much not my artist, but even I can easily sit here and say that she’s generally been a much wiser and smarter artist in these regards. I did at least manage to vibe with her self-aware sense of cringe, and at least find it fun, even dunking on her in a light hearted kind of way. This one just… I feel like it just lacks of any real Katy Perry-ness. There’s no cleverly shameless FUN to it, it just feels like a weak attempt at a more old-school pop anthem that she became known for, and it really just feels to me sort of like she’s lost a sense of authenticity in trying to stay as herself, bc that sense of herself is a version from 10 years ago that we know she HAS shown growth past it. Smile isn’t perfect, but I do think it showed a lot of growth from the past, whilst still feeling very Katy Perry. It feels like a regression to me, I guess.
All of this! She always seemed like she’s been in on the joke. This time feels like a resigned and cynical sort of thing compared to Smile and Witness.
@@Bratz218 the way the good sis read the first line and did not comprehend that the rest of the comment was expressing that Katy is an intelligent, shamelessly fun and self aware artist who has shown growth across her career, that I can openly acknowledge without being a fan lmao

@@goodboywastaken I have no doubts what Kesha lived. I love her. My point is not to give a hypocritical speech and brag about being aware by canceling others. Much less when our past condemn us.
I think if it was done ironically (much like the TD era was tbh), it would have landed. I’m just confused why she didn’t just hire a woman to produce the track.
I was expecting WAY WAY more from the music video. I was hoping that it was going to have a really trippy sci fi element to it, like sort of like how Bad Blood by Taylor Swift did, maybe in the woman's world everyone was upgraded that's why she wore those cyborg legs, but instead we got this whatever mess of a video. Honestly, I hate to see her crash and burn this badly because she was really such a famous and good artist, but I have no idea how she just really missed the mark here.
I think it undercuts the whole message and honestly, I think Max or Zedd or anyone else would have given a cooler production. This felt like Kim Petras leftovers

I genuinely feel sorry for her. This song even without the dr luke controversy, just absolutely horrendous & soulless song overall. However, I am pleased to see Katycats got humbled immediately after their rampant tweets of bullying kesha saying she deserves to get SA’ed, standing up FOR dr luke, and making transphobic jokes towards gaga.🙂↕️
Yeah, it was weird seeing the Kesha bashing or the tired 2009 transphobic jokes about Gaga being a man. But I suppose that’s what happens when you get stuck in the olden times.
I feel like she really should have worked with Bonnie McKee again if she wanted to recapture her early 2010s electropop perfection era because Hot City is exactly the kind of music I wanted from Katy,
Literally. If she recruited Bonnie, Max Martin and Cirkut, she would basically have the same dream team she had in Prism, but without the problematic member who hasn't even been delivering that much lately. She potentially ruined her image for a track that sounds like a Kim Petras reject.
@@gonda3435I think the single choices like Bon Appetit and Swish Swish were misguided, the album would have been better received if Roulette or Hey Hey Hey had been earlier choices (on top of the hair stuff)

@@EljohnMacaranas i don't think this is reclaiming. It's literally a conservative white woman wearing a us flag. There is nothing controversial or radical about that
The song kinda sounds like a catchy jingle from a TV advertisement for lipstick, hair dye, or feminine hygiene products: "Katy Perry X Tampax - Celebrating 90 Years in a Woman's World since 1934"
She should have gone dark pop imo or do a sound similar to Harleys In Hawaii, if she had sent that to radio back when it went viral she could have literally had a Cruel Summer moment
K, let me put my two cents in it: One - the fact that two of her best deep cuts, Hummingbird Heartbeat (produced by Tricky Stewart) and Walking on Air (produced by Klas Ahlund in collboration with Max Martin) ARE NOT produced by Dr. Puke, and either of them could be dropped as a single and tagged onto her upcoming record and it still would be its biggest hit, speaks volumes as to why she should have never ever come back to the "alleged" abus3er in the first place Two - Woman's World in its current state and form feels like a deformed fetus of a track, not a fully fledged song - the insipid, tired, brain-numbing lyrics in the verses which feel like generated by the AI after you put the command "write TikTok-ready female empowerment anthem in style of the early 2010s pop music into ChatGPT", the chorus which is catchy but doesn't explore the concept in anyway and repeats itself with the intention of getting drilled into your head, and the uninteresting production which feels dry, sterile and devoid of any pulse... We live in the post-Brat world, this Kim Petres reject dance production won't do anymore, we expect our electrodance pop music to be at least a little more daring. If it's telling enough, I would rather listen to Chillin With You by Britney (i mean Myah Marie) than this song 10 times in a row, as the fomer, while still being an awful track, has at least some sort of interesting production and definitely had a thought put behind it... Ah Katy, you never learn... Anyway, stream Joyride by Kesha, Stupid Love by Gaga AND Walking on Air by Katy. PS. I heard a snippet of her another new song "I'm his, he's mine" and it's even worst, maybe the worst song i've ever heard...
1) Yeah, there’s no real excuse. 2) Post-Brat world is correct, people are being exposed to proper dark dancepop. Like ChatGPT watered down pop just won’t cut it. (And yes, I heard a snippet and Crystal Waters should sue)
A shame she seemingly hasn't worked with Bonnie McKee on this upcoming record who co-wrote alot of her successful songs on her earlier albums (Last Friday Night, Legendary Lovers, Roar, Teenage Dream etc) and who just released her 2nd album (Hot City) that was planned for 2014 but cancelled by the label back then. Hot City deserves as much if not more attention as 143 will probably get when it releases in September
She could have worked with Cirkut too. His sound is very similar to Luke's, since he was mentored by him. Cirkut co-produced "Roar", "Part of Me" and many others, he was literally the one who came up with the "Dark Horse" instrumental, and he has been producing some hits lately, like "Seven" by Jungkook and "Unholy" by Sam Smith.
@@paktBREAKER Yeah I don't know why she chose Dr. Luke, almost as if she doesn't really care about the product and this album is her trying to get out of an 6 album contract or something, unless the label forced her to work with him due to the lower reception of Witness & Smile, which I think are still alot better than "Woman's World"

@@brunoserafimovski1903 I WAS THINKING THIS EXACT THING!! The song is good enough for Tik Tok to get her somewhere on the charts... And the controversy will maybe propel her following hits!! IT'S A PUBLICITY STUNT! I would gag if DL was only on this song.
@@brunoserafimovski1903 There's not enough goodwill from the general public for that strategy to work. This song and video have tarnished her reputation even further meaning she has a mountain to climb on the next release.
I refuse to believe literally walking through a glass door part isn’t tongue-in-cheek. As well as the girl-coded items she’s tossing around in this beginning. The satire just didn’t land for some reason.
@@em.lane.p the problem is Katy is too on-the-nose with literally everything - lyrics, visuals, what have you. She does things to be goofy, which is fine on its own, but she’s missing the part where satire actually has something to say. A better treatment for the video might see her and the other equally hot, skinny women being cyborgs programmed by men in suits, thus showing how this hollow “feminist” song is actually being orchestrated by men trying to make money. But her retroactively calling it “satire” and saying it’s all sarcastic and slapstick doesn’t make it good.
THANK YOU FOR SAYING SOMETHING!!! This was supposed to be her big comeback with her long black hair and upbeat pop banger after critical acclaim came back with PLAY and her spotify listeners nearly doubled organically over the last couple years. Me and many other KCs were disappointed at how short the song was. That is very out of touch for her. Also the chorus is very repetitive and loses momentum with the ahas. The production in the verses is recycled from Prisms "This Moment" and you're right it is a rip off of Stupid Love. Sometimes I wonder who allows these songs for big artists with potential to get approved and released. Like, the average Joe could have taken this song and made it slap. It suffers from the some thing WIG did when the 2nd chorus lost momentum and the song ended abruptly. Yes, Zedd would have been perfect to work with as he is probably the most uncontroversial producer in the industry and he and Katy work well together. This song is not bad but not lead single material. Oh well. Let's hope 143 has a later single that hits harder and brings it home.
I feel like all the goodwill she earned from going back to her classic look and having Play do decently and just overall nostalgia got flushed down the toilet. Like how do you do 2 whole albums without Dr Puke only to crawl back and tank.
@@EljohnMacaranas I think she has said in the past that he never did anything to her. So in her mind she thinks it's okay to work with him. This song feels really outdated. It would've fit perfectly in 2014-2016, but not now. We feel like we're over the female empowerment stuff now. I was so excited for Katy's comeback, but this just wasn't it. Hopefully the album as a whole is better.
I think the worst choice was her thinking her pop success was because of Dr Luke (which she shouldn’t have gone back to anyways obviously because hes an alleged abuser) and not Bonnie McKee who wrote so many of her biggest hits, including Roar, California Girls, Part Of Me, and Teenage Dream.
Yeah that seems to be a reoccurring theme in some of the comments. Luke’s productions were trendy at her peak but they’re deeply out of fashion now and honestly have not been good for years. People care about writing nowadays, hence Swift, Carpenter, Chappell, Olivia Rodrigo etc. success
@@EljohnMacaranas Exactly. But also, if Katy really cared about 2010’s pop, she should have just taken note of Bonnie’s new album Hot City. It’s basically a time capsule of the peak sound from then with her song writing that elevates the song even more. Rewind Your Heart is such a good example of this. Hell, Everything But You has a similar sound to Woman’s World but done so much better and cinematically.
I am hoping that the deep cuts of "143" we be better, i hoping for her to do something in the form of "Walking On Air" again. But it feels so Icky that's she's working with Dr. Puke, it feels wrong. That mini era before Smile rebrand was cute, I was a little mad they more or less gave up on it so quick since NRO had a chance. Small Talk was cute too.
I was really shocked when watching the music video. She screamed about women power yet sexualized us instead. Orlando Bloom from Miranda Kerr to her. Like hell...
She did say it was satire (in a video premade bc she knew it was gonna be misunderstood which means she knew it was gonna be misinterpreted and that the direction was bad)

She risked her career by working again with Dr. Luke, at least they should be able to show this will be a huge comeback. Ariana can do it even after she got entangled with very big scandal. Many people listen to her old songs than this.
also i really hope this isn’t too much to ask, but since we’re talking about Katy Perry, could you please make a video on Bonnie McKee? 🙏 i’d even pay to hear you review her new album ‘Hot City.’ she actually IS bringing back 2010s pop, with a small budget, and entirely independently! her new album is near skipless, and it’s been in the vault for ten years. thank you either way ❤
After seeing countless videos poping up in my recommended about katy falling off, I didn't know that she had a new song out nor was I interested. But as soon as the music video ended I sat down for a good minute like this 😑. Even if it was claimed to be so called "satire" the poor lyrics that accompanied the stange music video doesn't comply with that vision. It truly felt like women across the world caught a stray bullet because of this terribly executed feature.
The satire thing felt like a copout unless she thinks it’s funny the song itself being produced by someone who legally entrapped a woman… I’m not even a woman but I felt insulted on your behalf.
A gay man saying “she’s a sister she’s a mother” saying it’s slang no the song is about woman so she is a mum or she is a sister not every single thing is about slang
What still annoys me about "Roar" and EVERYBODY oversees this somehow: It heavily grabs from Sara Bareilles' "Brave", which PERRY HERSELF tweeted about beore "Roar". Brave still gets comments about being a plagiate when it was the first one to release. I'm not a "hater" or anything, I enjoy some songs like Dark Horse genuinely, but I feel she was just overhyped for a long time and never that personally involved as everyone thought.

And overall, the generic lyrics are juvenile and lacklustre. It really seems ridiculous that it took 6 song writers to write this one song. Katy working with Dr. Luke was definitely a bad look and terrible choice. It's sad and disappointing. P.S. Why does the decision to put Katy in a large pair of bionic legs seem more like a way to disguise Slightly thicker thighs; that Katy may have felt look unflattering ??!! Women's talent and ability lies in more than just what your body looks like I think that your critique video was write on the money when saying that Katy Perry appears lost.
i think dr luke was bad enough, but when katy perry’s own a$$auł+ proof and allegations came out, i was absolutely disgusted, and knew i’d never listen to her again.

@@melonpeach9723 I also remember her label at one point was like “you WILL work with him, or we’re not putting your album out. “ also I THINK the song she took her writing credit off was “Stronger” which really underlines how much she HATED having to share credit with him. One of her best performing songs from that time and she didn’t get a cent of writing royalties because she stuck to her principles.

Her 2022 droplet single, When I'm Gone, was a far superior comeback song to this IMO and everyone slept on it😭. Her comeback was doomed from the moment it was rumored she went back to Dr Puke. I would at least expect the song to be slightly better than Walmart Stupid Love. I dunno why her team thought it was a great idea to go back to him of all people when there are far more competent producers (Max Martin, Dan Nigro, Alesso) who would’ve done a better job
Walmart Stupid Love is such a good drag 😭 and yes, I agree When I’m Gone was a good comeback song. There’s so many producers out there and she came back to the worst possible choice she could’ve made 💀
Roar won the battle in 2013. Applause won the war eventually. Roar aged like milk. In 2024, Roar sounds like a kids' bop anthem while Applause still sounds timeless, which fits any pop era.
I searched up the snippets that she played on live and I’m genuinely worried for her career, this could be her last chance at rekindling the success she had in the 2010’s, and it’s not looking good, as much as I want to like the song and snippets, they suck, she needs to go back to the studio and rework the album.
This is so embarrassing! They even went so far to defend "Women's World" as a "parody" (wtf? what female role model in 2024 would want that?!?) This is approbation of feminist topics (from the 1980s) with the sole purpose of making money - thus declaring millions of fans not smart enough to know the difference. The Guardian review puts it best: "Perry’s solo return is a dated attempt at writing a feminist anthem about how women really can have it all! It’s a song that made me feel stupider every sorry time I listened to it … this garbage has 6 writers."
I wondered if she really worked with Dr. Luke doja cat said she didn't work with him for planet her yet somehow his name was on the producing credits and she was mad that he was profiting off her work that he didn't contributeanything to. And I believe doja because she's showed us her making music and beats by herself on her instagram so I wonder if katy was in the same situation were luke came in at the end and slapped his name on it. Katy did say that she signed a bunch of artist and was managing them in the 2010s yet somehow they were also signed to Dr. Luke even though they were her artist's the music industry contracts are just so shady and difficult to comprehend so I'm not surprised katy perry a high school dropout is getting manipulated by the industry
I'm disturbed by the fact that she's working as a judge for American Idol and release this kind of nonsense song as her comeback. If I become part of the contestant or coming for audition, I won't take her advice seriously since she can't even released a new song that shows her maturity in music industry. Her singing career is over to be honest.
Everything about this song/video is just lazy. It’s just random feminism sounding words and things smushed together into a blob of garbage. The only thing I really enjoyed was the beginning of the video, I thought it was smart to recreate sort of the beginning of America but instead with women as the [ones] building our society. But then after that it just completely lost me, and even then the song is so bad that it’s hard to focus during the one decent part of the video anyway 😢
She thinks she achieved everything with those diamond albums and singles that I don't see any hunger in her to outperform her previous achievements. She has always been a singles artist, so I don't see any hope in 143 ( i love you). This album seems to be a cheap copy of Taylor's Lover but The Man is a superior track as compared to Woman's world.
Thanks so much for an honest review. As a total Katy Perry fan, I have to say that I was shocked (and not for the better) by Katy Perry's recent deterioration. It's just a mess that screams a lazy cash grab or attention grab. The close-ups on Katy's boobs are cringe. The woman's world empowerment lyrics are cringe. The fact that Katy worked with Dr. Luke, of all people, is cringe, and that's not a kind gesture towards Kesha. The song even has SIX co-writers, and I can't help but wonder how six people could mess up so bad. With Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and others producing their weakest works lately, I can't but think that fame goes to some superstars' heads and that they begin to eventually believe that they walk on water. Why bother to try, when everyone is going to listen anyway? It just feels like superstardom breeds laziness later on. It's a shame. I love Katy.
When she was teasing KP6 last year, I was genuinely excited. But agreed on most points. I do think that when people experience a peak, it’s hard to overcome the temptation to try and top it by either completely ignoring everything people loved about you or leaning too hard into it. It’s tough, but it’s also no excuse to work with someone who much of the industry (Bebe Rexha, Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, and others have spoken about Luke’s shady/mean/abusive tactics) and world recognize as an abuser.
I agree with literally everything you said in this video !! I actually was rooting for her comeback… but I absolutely hated this track. It’s awful IMO. The only thing that can save Katy - and even then it looks quite bleak - is “143,” It has to be REALLY GOOD. But I have no clue if that’s even going to work out. I’ll also give the album a fair shot though. Yes the song is bad but that doesn’t necessarily mean the song defines the albu
If she didn't look over the hill before, Katy assuredly does now. This song would have been a hit...in 2010. As if her doing American Idol didn't make her look like a Boomer, enough. The old tricks ain't working like they did before for Granny Perry. 👵
Also it's crazy how bad the timing was for releasing this song... releasing it a week after Joyride - which I know won't have the same reach as Woman's Wold, but anyway - seems like another unintentional irony. She's really lost it. Such a shame.
Katy Perry has always been tone deaf and at least 10 years behind progressive society. The "I'm not a feminist" quote in 2012, 'I Kissed a Girl' trivialising LGBT "I hope my boyfriend don't mind it", and how can we forget 'You're So Gay'. Why are people so surprised by 'Woman's World'? It's classic KP.
What I am looking forward to is that this is a troll lead single, and eventually Katy would release the serious one this time, please, I would never forgive Katy if she did another Woman's World kind of a song with the next single. I'm begging you Katy give us something, Dr. Luke is already a red flag, so at least make up for it with a song that would make us forget Taylor Swift is the main character of the 2020's
I genuinely don’t think Katy’s that smart. Also, deciding to trash your big comeback with a troll single has to be the dumbest thing anyone in her position could do. You get everyone’s attention only to squander it like this and people won’t even give you another chance. Fans for sure, but the common public. Nah, they have better music to listen to.
