In Italy you dont ask for an espresso..you just ask for a coffee

It takes so much energy to recycle paper you may as well start from scratch. Paper also rots down so best compost it. However the very best thing is to do what these people do and use a washable cup.

Here in Spain takeaway coffee isn't so popular either. Coffee is for relaxing and meeting your friends, not to drink while you're running down rhe street
@christinecameron1612
@christinecameron1612 6 лет назад
I was shocked and appalled to see them sneer at takeaway, then dash in, guzzle an entire cup of espresso in 1 swallow, and dash out again, in less than 60 seconds. Here in the USA, slamming a drink in 1 gulp is horribly bad manners. We americans may have takeaway, but At least a person with a takeaway cup savors and appreciates their coffee, and usually sits down to enjoy it as soon as possible.

It is actually quite funny: we tend to have completely different cuisines but very similar food habits. We both enjoy our vegetables and fruit a lot, even though we have different ones, we eat slowly and things with different colours, we enjoy our family dinners all eating together... and Italians simply adore Japanise cuisine. The result: we are both quite healthy people. Unfortunately Italians are slowly adapting to more Western habits, including fast food.

I noticed there's an Italian restaurant in Tokyo from Friuli. It's actually an "Osteria Furlana". I know that in Japan meat is considered a luxury food, it would be a shock eating in that restaurant so... Basically every meal is composed by meat of pig. Not all, but the vast majority. And don't worry if the Italians in there are cold hearted, we Furlan are always like that, but once you become part of the family, it's all another story. But I guess that behavior marry extremely well with the Japanese behavior. In that kind of things we are kinda similar.

@professionalpotato4764
@professionalpotato4764 6 лет назад
Cold brew coffee is great though. Very different flavours extracted compared to an espresso. Personally I prefer take-away coffee so I can have small sips while studying. I don't like to down my coffee in one go. Firstly, it shortens the enjoyment. Secondly, the crash after the caffeine wears out will be much stronger than if I took regular sips over an hour or two. That said, I've pretty much stopped buying coffee from cafes since grinding my own coffee at home for a nice cup is so much better than store bought sugar loaded drinks that don't taste of coffee. And when I'm at school I have my own mug and brewer too.

There is also a reason of why coffee in Italy is that small, because a cup of italian espresso gives you more boost than the usual American coffee (I can tell you by experience) and honestly the first time I tried an actual American coffee it felt like drinking from the dirtiest drinking fountain in Rome (yes, there are thousands of drinking fountains all over the city, and all of them are clean since the well care from the citizens, and no one actually causes damage to these, they close the valve only when there's an overuse of water during summer)

Because American coffee chains use cheaper robusta beans and not as many so the strength isn’t there and espresso is neat so it isn’t diluted so it tastes stronger

Here in the US people who are pressed for time have to grab coffee and go, but anybody who can grab a few minutes sits down to enjoy the brew properly with a little treat and maybe the day's newspaper. We do, yes, have widespread carryout coffee which is a lifesaver when you're in a hurry, but our coffee break ritual is a lot closer in form to the classic "English Afternoon Tea" than it is to the Italian coffee break. One reason is that because the coffee shops are usually packed and the drinks can be complex, it takes at least 5 minutes for your coffee to even be delivered, 8-12 minutes is more normal. The other factor is, most american coffee shops are busy social venues. They are set up to encourage socializing and community interaction with stuff like comfy chairs and couches and tables, free wireless internet access, and some charging ports customers can use. Many privately owned coffee shops host local musicians, poetry readings, and even open-mic nights every week, as well as showcasing local artists on their walls. Every once in a while, a couple even says their marriage vows in a coffee shop!

Used to love the coffee shops in Naples, this video is spot on. Some of them mixed it with selling beer and wine! Never did quite get used to or like them.

The best espresso I ever had in the States was at a shop that used a very expensive Italian brewing machine that looked like it was made from copper. The flavor was incredible!

You forgot to say that the paper cup ruins the taste of the coffee.

When i drink coffee i like it to be a little bit hot and i drink it around 5-10mins. I also don't like take away coffe unless it was with ice.

Absolutely true. I live in UK and that’s the way it is if you take in a plastic cup. Too hot! If you ask for americano from say Starbucks, it’s too watery, too hot, not a comparison to how an Italian would have it.

Better than walking around with a hot beverage trying to drink out of a small hole and not being sure how hot it is until it touches your lips.

Contradictions all around. Is coffee meant to be quickly taken like a shot within 40 seconds, or is coffee consumption ideally purposed as a break/conversation?

I wouldnt say that Europe loves those take away coffee. France, Spain,Italy, Croatia and Balkan countries, Sweden, Portugal, they all drink coffee in place and enjoy the moment. American exchange student could not believe that here in Croatia we sit 2 hours straight or even more just to drink coffee and enjoy chatting with friends. I would say American people and one influenced by that culture are mostly into those to go drinks. Europe as it is in my opinion still believes in good old drinking coffee in peace.

Nobody drinks coffee like shots in Italy.. or calls it _espresso,_ you just ask _"un caffè"._

I am Italian and I prefer tea than coffee because coffee raise the acidity of the stomach, but sometimes after a big lunch I take an espresso, corretto perhaps. But that take a way coffee is like dirty water I would never buy one. Maybe a take away tea, that sounds better

Ah, yes. The right temperature for immediate drinking, makes it possible to finish the coffee in a short period of time. In other countries, when you order hot coffee it will be mostly hot and not possible for immediate drinking.
