People seem to forget that to succeed, you need to be put in the right place to do so, and so far having to always play behind a ball dominant SG like harden Kobe and kemba, he hasn't gotten another chance like the one he had in NY when Melo was hurt

JUST LETTING EVERYONE KNOW, Breakdown was right. If you watched the NBA, let alone Jeremy Lin, You would see the difference is that Nash had a single team his whole career. Plus, at Houston and the Lakers, Jeremy wasn't allowed his creative/smart decision making, in favor of their super stars(Harden & Kobe)

When defenders hedge on picks, Lin totally obliterates defenses. Also, if he starts consistently hitting those mid-range jumpers like he did during linsanity, that will ultimately get rid of the spacing issues he deals with on the floor.

Look at Nash's first real season in which he played the close amount minutes as Rubio. 40 GMS (missed 10 GAMES) , 36 FG%, 37 3P%, 82 FT% and Rubio had more assists and rebounds than Nash. So your statement is a little off there.

Been a min since this was uploaded and Jeremy has improved in a lot of ways since 2012. Shot consistency, speed, accuracy but one thing still comes up short: his left hand. He is not even close to comfortable going either left or right interchangeably. When a player goes left and uses his left hand, he does it for a very important reason. To set a good example, take a look at footage from when MJ would go left to the hoop. His right hand was fending off defenders. This is important unless you love getting the ball smashed back in your face from shot blockers. Lin has found ways to compensate but he's still limited here.

Lin is technically still a rookie, i mean he played not even a full season in the NBA SO having said that it is unfair to say he is overhyped or anything. Besides he did improve the Knicks record and even their playoff chances because of his skills and team chemistry. Give Lin more time to improve and then give your opinions

coach i love what you said about his defense. he is so sound on defense and always helping effectively. that's what team defense is about. on the flip side, if he is anymore efficient on the offensive end, he will end up with the highest fg% of all time for a pg, given he's shooting 52% even with that bad game against the wolves.

@blacknapalm It's probably all those things. It wasn't like he lit up when given the tiny bit of a chance in Golden State and Houston. They are not saying he is the next Nash but its more why he could be the next Nash type player, Its not because people are just picking a star PG just to compare him to but because the ability that he has. He keeps the dribble alive just like Nash and he can penetrate the defense with his quick first step and able to find open players. That's why they said he could be like Nash. Its because the way he plays and both are similar in size, and quickness.
@jjabw

Lin is averaging 12 pts 3.8 rbs and 6.1 asts, Harden is averaging 26 pts 4.4 rbs and 5.5 assists at SG. More efficient offensively and defensively with more TO's than Lin simply because he has the ball more than Lin. It's true I didn't look at the stats when I said he's less turnover prone than Lin but the ball is in Hardens hands for a reason, an obvious one.
@Convisis
@Convisis 12 лет назад
great vid coach. I see Lin as more of a DRose type PG mold than 'specialist playmaker; someone who can run a team but who is still probably best at making plays for themselves going to the hoop or getting themselves a shot, but is unselfish and can make the right play as it unfolds off a penetration or PnR, like with Chandler. Brandon Roy may also a good comparison; Lin uses quite a lot of similar dribbles, crossovers and pullups. Brandon used to have the ball a lot, and used it quite similarly.

To everyone hating on the uploader, it should be noted that Steve Nash took until his fifth season to average double-figures. Sure, Lin is unlikely to become as good a player as Nash, but, even after his up-and-down third season, which was his first full season as a pro and with a brand new team that didn't let him dominate the ball, I would say he has as good a chance than any other player in the league of becoming a Steve Nash-esque floor general

Harden was traded to the Rockets before the season actually started... The one game where Harden didn't play, Lin dropped 38 against the Spurs. One game really doesn't confirm anything, but I'm just pointing out that he did explode that one game without Harden.

i think the number one reason he could be the next nash is because he also plays under Dantoni, and fits perfectly to his offensive system...like nash did with the suns.

he said he shouldn't have been voted in and said he would decline if he did get in. now after his season in houston he is not seen as the same player as he was in NY, he is now considered probably an above average point guard, and he still has loads of potential due to his age and work ethic. if he develops a consistent jump shot (from both mid and 3pt range) he could become a very good player

Jeremy Lin's defense was already light years ahead of Steve Nash.... Lin turned around the Knicks not just because of his offensive production, but was also making plays on defense. Steals are near the top of the league. And he shuts down whoever he's guarding. (If not, they need a lot of shots in order to get a lot of points.) He might already be a top five defender for PGs. If Steve Nash had half of Lin's defensive ability, the Suns would have won a title in the D'Antoni era.

Great analysis of Lin's game. For a while, I thought Lin couldn't go left as ESPN's so-called experts like to pounce upon. Only you and Hubie Brown have pointed this out. In fact, from this video, it seems Jeremy Lin likes to go left and is very quick moving in that direction. He does remind many of Steve Nash. I think Lin's own game is pretty good by itself. He, like Steve, makes a team a lot better.

guys also you have to consider when he was playing with the knicks melo was out and he was clearly the #1 option on offense (thus the increased stats). now in houston he is second fiddle to harden (and now howard) and thus his stats went down. but if you look at how he played when harden was out, he played as well if not better than he did in NY.

Why is everyone saying hes going to be the next Steve Nash because of his 38 point games? Steve Nash never averaged more than 20 PPG his whole career, he was pass first. Also, he would have shown improvement enough to at least be an all-star in his career by now if hes going to be a star.

Ok coach I was wrong you scrutinized him perfectly. I think his biggest problem now is just his conditioning. Once he gets used to playin 40+ mins he'll be good. He only averages 1-2 turnovers in the 1st half; so fatigue is his main issue. Good breakdown!

Michael Jordan is the best example. When he played, he has the respect of the refs. Thus, whenever MJ gets into the lane and trying to put up a shot, body contacts are made. A foul is very likely called in his favor,and then MJ gets free throw In other words, respect from refs will result in more fouls being called in your favor when driving into the lane. Thus, refs are still learning to give Jeremy Lin his respect whenever he drive into the lane. :)

Obviously this vid was realeased during Linsanity but while Lin wilL never be a Nash, he's much better than people give him credit for. And he has some intangibles that are impressive - too many too list but to me, his ability to draw contact and finish, but more importantly, that he gets opponents in trouble with fouls can't be understated.

I think Mchale knows the role he wants Lin to play, why cut ball handling out of Hardens agenda when he primarily did it in OKC with people like Durant & Westbrook around him only really slowing down when Fisher came/left. Mchale is around his team daily, I'm sure if he found Lin to be the more efficient guard to run the offense he would have the ball in his hands more whether or not it ends up in Hardens hands at the end of the day.

I never said Rubio isn't more like Jason Kidd right now. I'm saying that with time and effort, Rubio COULD be the next Nash. I'm not saying he will be, but he has the potential to. Besides, one of the bigger reasons as to why people think he can be the next Nash is the flair and flash that Rubio has. Nash has had some amazing passes in his day, and Rubio can deliver advanced passes that most of the guys in the NBA can't do. If he becomes the next Nash, Pete, or even Kidd, he'll be great.

@BallaholicNo10in89 At his best, in Denver, Melo created by catching and shooting or shot fake, one dribble pull ups- cold blooded efficiency. There is no doubt in my mind that he isolated so much this season because there wasn't a point that could get them going.

i honestly think he could start for several teams right now and the only reason beverly would start over him is because of his defense and energy. i don't think bev can keep that up over the entire year but we'll see. I honestly think he would start over ray felton for the knicks, MCW for the 76ers, steve nash -lakers, brandon knight -milwaukee, and trey burke - utah. he is capable of being a starter but houston is probably not the best fit for him because he is playing beside harden
@aecbandit
@aecbandit 12 лет назад
He definitely doesn't have the shooting ability that Nash does, but that's unfair considering Nash can be thrown around as the best-ever in that category. I think it's an important point though, since it keeps defenders honest. I do like how strong and creative Lin's drives are, and if he can clean up the turnovers (hard to blame him this early for these, considering both the lockout and his limited time on the court), he can be pretty special.
@EGarrett01
@EGarrett01 12 лет назад
The Knicks other "star" players came back from injury and they started giving him less minutes, then he got a knee injury and had to sit out the rest of the season. When he got heavy minutes though he was still putting up huge numbers right up until he left. Expect the Linsanity to continue next year. It's the only positive mainstream story the NBA's got left.

Im not a big Lin fan but Im not a hater either. I just want to point out to some of you that likes to point out that he sucks because he turns the ball over a lot. J Lin turns the ball over a lot is BECAUSE he never plays any minutes in the NBA b4 and then all of a sudden is forced to play big minutes without ever practicing with the team. He has to handle the ball most of the time and make plays w/o practice with the team.
