WHY JESUS DIDN’T HAVE TO DIE: To Atone For Our Sins
By Rabbi Michael Skobac, Education Director of Jews for Judaism
Session #5 of a 12-part lecture series entitled the "Counter-Missionary Survival Seminar", which responds to the 2,000 year-old claim by Christian missionaries that Jesus is the Jewish messiah. Using the Jewish Bible, where the concept of the Jewish Messiah has its foundation, Rabbi Skobac explains how two Billion Christians are wrong and that Judaism is correct in rejecting Jesus as the Messiah. Questions should be directed to RabbiSkobac@JewsForJudaism.ca.

i was born and raised christian.. my entire life i have left each week from church with more questions than answers and never had them answered to me in a way that makes sense. it caused me to question not only my faith but religion in general. i thought how can something with so much unclearity and so broadly taught be correct and accurate.. but i didnt wanna abandon god all together so i decided to trace the roots of my religion.. since i have been listening to this and many other rabbis all my answers have been clearly answered and makes sense. i have no doubts any more and no questions.. i have finally been learning the right way to praise g-d and christians imo have basically picked and choosed what to believe in and made up the rest misquoting the torah to justify themselves

I was a Christian until a year ago, until I met some Jews and discovered the Torah, which consumes me now. But unknown to me at the time much groundwork had been laid which I was completely unaware of to prepare me for that discovery, but one of the things that tilled my soil ready for that seed to find fertile ground was I started getting interested in end times prophecy in Scripture & began studying everything I could about it. Whole different pic than the xtians & muslims have! Zechariah 8:23

I'm so glad I found you, Rabbi. You are such an outstanding teacher. You're lectures are never boring. Coming out of 56 years in the Church, one of the things I love is your humility and the depth of your knowledge. Christian pastors tend to just preach and teach from what speaks to their emotions and what was passed down from a previous generation. Anytime I asked a question that indicated I could be a threat or a heretic I was thrown out of the church. I've been thrown out of five churches and one denomination. Now, thanks to teachers like you, I realize I was just waking up to the truth. I'm glad I kept asking, and I thank God for you. You've answered all my questions and you've never thrown me out of class. I've attended them all:)

Hello TheSmithDorian, I agree he does a brilliant job on cutting through fog. I may have to do some videos challenging some of his statements where he doesn't realize he's actually proving the Christian's points. The rabbi's re-translation of Isaiah actually does this. The messiah is coming to save the righteous. Hmmm. That kinda sounds like one of the seeds in Christianity's core. What do you think?

Thank you so much for this lecture. That was most helpful. I hope G-d forgives my sins and helps me start all over again. I'm so tired of this never giving me a break battle that takes place in my mind. The battle between reason (and being constantly drawn toward agnosticism) and G-d of Tanakh. I hope G-d has mercy on me and I'm finally at peace ( sooner rather than later).

It's been difficult to realize we have been sold a lie which doesn't exist in the Jewish Bible. This truth has also given me a peace of mind I never had with Christianity. WHY? Bc Judaism makes sense and holds each individual responsible for their actions. We were told G-d would never forgive us without Jesus bc G_d can't bear our sinful nature. Nothing we could do, no amount of asking for forgiveness or trying to "make it right" matters. We are doomed regardless. This makes NO sense at all. it goes against EVERYTHING we teach out children about being a good human being and being accountable for what we do. Oddly when Jesus was asked how one could be saved... he said keep the Commandments. Now that I believe. The rest of it.... is Pauline doctrine which didn't even try to hide it's pagan roots.

As a former Christian for most of my life and now a convert to Judaism I can see how coming from the outside in can only be accomplished by G-D and only G-D. If one takes the time to actually seek truth G-D will deliver truth but one has to be willing to accept it. Toda raba rebbi🙏 May hashem pour blessings upon you like water.

Well finally someone's had the balls to say what I've been saying for the longest. I never understood why no one thought to look at Judaism and the Hebrew language to see what it actually says. What I know of Judaism and Hebrew couldn't even fill a thimble, but I could see there were major disconnects. Thank God I was able to put this behind me!

I am a Christian. Glad to watch. What is missing for me in this video is: Why did/do the Jews perform sacrifices in the first place? AND Why was it okay to have some sacrifices that required blood and others that did not? And if forgiveness was given freely and no sacrifices needed in the Jewish religion in the past and present, why expect the temple to be built in the future to start sacrifices up again? This video only raised more questions for me. And BTW I do not believe in the Trinity

Hi there I am not a Rabbi, just an observant Jewish soul. We had a Temple and sacrifices because G-d, our Creator commanded us to build for Him a Sanctuary. Every detail of the construction of the Mishkan, the portable Sanctuary worshipping G-d therein, is written down in the Torah. Our Creator gave the Torah, directly to the Children of Israel at Mount Sinai. It is an obligation upon us to fulfill our end of the Eternal Covenant which was entered into between our Creator and our father Abraham, which was sealed in our flesh via the Commandment concerning circumsion G-d commanded that every male of Bnei YIsrael / the Children of Israel MUST be circumcised on his 8th day of life. We cannot just bring a sacrifice in the Temple in Jerusalem right now, because it was destroyed by Titus. There was the son of Emperor Vespasian. When G-d brings about the Third Temple we will once again bring offerings to the Jerusalem Temple, at any such time as Hashem our G-d wishes to have us do so. We who keep the Covenant and happy to dwell in His House for the length of days.

After watching this a few times, I have gained a lot of knowledge to dispel the abusive theology that infuses all cultures--especially pagan practices--to influence others. It is a well crafted and attractive religion to those that do not want to take ownership of their own actions. I'd be nice to have someone else pay my bill of dept--sin--instead of me. This gives me freedom to do as I believe; I think this is called hedonism or anomia (Greek) lawlessness. They truly are in a dangerous practice.

This information is nothing short of astonishing. Is it that the "New Testament" writers were deliberately deceptive, or were they "quoting" the Tanakh from memory and getting it wrong?
@paddygoes3746
@paddygoes3746 8 лет назад
It was probably a bit of both. Paul´s Jesus very likely didn´t exist. It´s also likely that the Jerusalem apostles didn´t teach or belileve that Jesus was god. Mark´s gospel has an ending that was added later. But what matters is that the Jews were right all along and many christians are now discovering this and also the beautify of Judaism and the Torah.

As someone raisd christian I agree with the rabbi. If Jesus died fo atone for our sins or pay in advance if you will; then why do they always insist we pray for forgiveness of our sins? After all, we supposively "owe" him. I've always thought christianity was a joke. I get a lot of criticismm from my family for it too. They try to call me atheist but I tell them I believe in god but not Jesus then they say I'm impossible and I'm going to hell. Typical christian response.

If the animal sacrifices were not needed, why then did all the prophets keep doing them?
@JewsforJudaismCanada
@JewsforJudaismCanada 10 лет назад
He is not saying that animal sacrifices were not needed. They were actually an integral part of the process of teshuva-repentance. Just like a husband brings flowers to his wife. However, his point is that sacrifices ALONE do not suffice to bring atonement. There needs to be inner change through return-repentance.
@rhomas913
@rhomas913 10 лет назад
***** Thanks...but then if one can atone without sacrifice....that means that sacrifice is not needed for atonement...or is it that they were needed back then but are no longer needed now?
@mrtruthforever
@mrtruthforever 9 лет назад
Sacrifices served many purposes: 1. extracting financial payment, charity, as an act of contrition, to support the temple servants; 2. a means of increasing brotherhood among the people since for certain sacrifices, the food was shared with others 3. Instilling in people a reminder of the frailty & fleetingness of life and realization that a person may have committed sins whereby his life too may be terminated. 4, A rectification of a cultural phenomenon which was present among humanity and the Torah instituted humane means of executing the sacrifice and placed constraints as far as who may be allowed to do such a thing; etc., etc. The sacrifice does not atone without self-correction and certainly does not atone for intentional sin. That was just a distortion by later religions.
@rabelad
@rabelad 9 лет назад
When the Temples were up and running it was in fulfillment of the commandments to sacrifice them. However, after both Temples were destroyed God allowed an acceptable substitution of prayer in place of sacrifices. This is explicitly stated in Hosea 14:2. If your Christian translation seems unclear about this matter it is due to the translators having been very uncomfortable about giving an honest and straightforward translation it would completely undermine the very Christian theology that they are out to promote. Anyway, Christians insist that Jesus was the substitute sacrifice after the Second Temple was destroyed. Problem with that that the First Temple was also destroyed - so where was Jesus to act as a substitute between the First and Second Temples? Why was his "saving grace" only extended after the destruction of the Second Temple and not for the First Temple as the same "problem" of having been unable to offer blood sacrifices was also in effect? The truth is that Christians have no answer for this as it is an insurmountable problem for Christian theology.
@rabelad
@rabelad 9 лет назад
First, you failed to direct yourself to answering my question. Second, the Hebrew Bible, starting at Ezekiel 37:24 describes the messiah ("My servant David") to be the prince of the Jewish people forever who will also rebuild the Temple to stand forever. If that's supposed to be Jesus at his 2nd coming why did the text tell us that it will be David and not Jesus? (For that matter there's no prediction in the Hebrew Bible that the messiah will need a 2nd coming - it's only the NT that needs a 2nd coming to make up for Jesus who was a failed messiah, who didn't bring world peace and didn't rebuild the Temple.) That verse in Ezekiel says that he will reinstate all the observances of the Torah, rebuild the Temple and in it he would reinstate animal sin sacrifices (see also Ez 46:20). I couldn't help but notice that the bit about resumption of animal sin sacrifices goes completely contra the New Testament book of Hebrews 10:11-18. Third, I find it typical that when Christians assume they know it all they try to dissuade others from searching for the truth by threatening hellfire. That's a convenient tool to manipulate others from learning and expressing the truth. Christians often resort to fear-mongering and the threat of burning for eternity on Jesus' eternal BBQ. This is a common reaction by Christian missionaries especially when our Hebrew Bible goes against their foundational doctrines. Fourth, funny how Christians accuse us Jews of misreading OUR Bible when we read it in the original language, a language that we learn as our mother tongue here in Israel! Are you able to claim the same? Its a joke when a Christian tells ME that I don't know what MY Bible says when I can read the many details, nuances and subtleties in the original Hebrew that can not be translated into any other language! All the while the Christian missionary depends on translators who were not above biasing and even twisting their translations to fit their doctrines. Fortunately for you, Ezekiel chapter 37+ the translators were unable to fuzz the meaning of that book so it's pretty clear, even in Christian translations, about what God intends to do in the end-of-days. Wanna know what the Hebrew Bible really says? Go learn to fluently read Biblical Hebrew yourself and don't depend on anyone else telling you what it says and thereby foisting their doctrines on you. (BTW, don't try to translate Hebrew word-for-word with a lexicon as it doesn't work.)

One thing I observe that might help is the difference between goodwill and suspicion. Where there is goodwill, people accept what one another say, and even have "aha" moments of sympathy and understanding. But where there is suspicion, there is doubt and disagreement, and no amount of logic can convince us.
