It's a Feedback Friday on Purple Daily! Thor Nystrom from FantasyPros and BettingPros joins Phil Mackey to talk JJ McCarthy, Dallas Turner and much more! A Minnesota Vikings draft recap edition of Feedback Friday!
Irony: Ed Donashell's horrible defensive calls against the Giants in the playoffs led to theGiants brass giving Jones a huge contract which led to them skipping on McCarthy at 6 and taking Nabers. And now Vikes have a 10 yr QB & a Edge with Dallas Turner. Ed is now having a positive effect on the Vikings
We will only support a winner. If McCarthy flops the finicky Fanbase will turn on him. He will have a 1+ year honeymoon. I suspect he will not flop. In fact, I predict he will start at least half of next years games and maybe all of them.
I just saw some extensive film on JJ in game situations at Michigan 😱. I think the traymasters hit a home run on this QB pick. The kid is mature way beyond his years. Boy if they do this right in bringing him along Dayummmm! I haven’t been this excited since Daunte Culpepper!
@@hugeboi3669 lol but when he had ot make throws and convert third downs he did so. maybe the coach just didnt ask him to throw much cause it was a run heavy offense. so you cant amke that call saying he can or cant handle throwing more
Watch the tape. When pockets fold JJ has an ability to run outside and spread the offense, keeping his eyes downfield for the best separation plays when routes have been busted or ran. Give him time, he'll be great.
Vikes fans blaming the IOL whenever Kirk folded vs pressure was always so goofy. Rarely did he not get 2+ seconds with time to get the ball out or move. Guy could never deal with normal nfl pressure which is why he has one playoff win
We had defensive linemen in the backfield before we could even hand the ball off😂 the IOL was rightfully criticized. We have good tackles and thats it and that skews our overall OL ranking. Bradbury is allergic to anchoring against DTs. Its awful
@@DJDonkeytron please stop blaming Ed, he should have been on the bench. Kwesi failing to get O line players is what forced Ed to play when it was obvious that he was not ready.
I think KOC knows whats hes doing and will bring the most out of JJ when hes ready. It took time with Kirk too. But when he does come in this team will roll.
It’s hysterical that fans think KOC didn’t get his guy just because they personally didn’t want him. I can’t help but laugh at these delusional Vikings fans.
Well, he got one of his guys. They probly weren’t lieing when they said they liked multiple qbs. I would bet maye was his first but i don’t think he’s upset with jj.
All of them are not Viking fans. One very vocal dude that I personally know is an Ohio fan. And he's still butthurt over the ass whoopings JJ delivered them over the years. We are friends on Facebook and I constantly see him trolling the Viking boards . Time will tell the tale. I'm team JJ all the way
I think McCarthy expectations are being set to high. I respect Thor's opinions, but he's probably the highest on him out of anybody who scouts players professionally. I'd love to hear the alternate perspective on here as well.
So why would you say they are set too high? The kid is 63-3 over his football career, won the championship at IMG, won the national championship last year with Michigan, has arguably the best WR duo in the league, has a top 3-5 TE, a revamped running back room, a former NFL QB for head coach, and they have the luxury of not being in a desperate position where he needs to start immediately. I don't think the expectations are being set too high, because NOBODY is expecting him to be the savior. Whereas someone like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jaden Daniels, are all expected to be saviors and resurrect horrible franchises. It's MN man, we don't get too optimistic in this town for a reason. I think expectations are more than reasonable for JJ.
@MixtapeMagic Dude a championship or bust mentality is to high of expectations right now lol. We gotta see him on the NFL field. He's a raw prospect who's going to take a few years to fully develop. His record doesn't really mean much the 2 best QB's in the NFL (Mahomes, Allen) were losers in college record wise. I'm just saying a healthy level of skepticism needs to be in place. That's not being negative that's being realistic.
The thing about the turner trade that i never hear anyone bring up is that it also includes the Houston trade that got us the 23. So when you add up the Houston trade and the trade to 17 its more expensive than people think. I'm glad we have dallas turner but we definitely overpaid in my opinion
The question isn't only whether Dallas Turner was worth Pick 17, it's also whether too much was given up for Pick 17. And it was. The same for Pick 10.
Who gives a shit! We’re trying to retool now! Not next year! Imagine crying over some draft picks that who knows what will turn in to. The way you’ve been crying about these picks for a week now, you’d think we lost a bunch of first round picks and drafted only 1 player.
I don't think Kwesi was as "in" on Maye at 3 as some people think. Sure, it would have been nice, but he simply wasn't willing to sell the farm. IF Kwesi had decided it was Maye or bust, he would've offered WAAAY more than what he did. I think KoC is quite happy with this result. I NE may have saved us from Maye.
I guess we. Will all find out how good or bad JJ will be real soon. It amazes me how people here just pronounce how great or bad he is going to be at the NFL level. I know this much all of the lovers and the haters are not experts, because as we have seen even the experts fail 40 plus per cent of the time. So many of us really look stupid when we bring our or love of a player based on nothing but our own BS i am out peace.
I had to chuckle when I seen the Pro player comp for JJ McCarthy and it was Kirk Cousins. A younger, more athletic Kirk (without the experience or arm talent) and everyone is waving flags after hating on Kirk for years.
Man if I hated how much others are dumping on my QB I sure wouldn’t be here getting all pissed off. I would go somewhere else tho get my Kirk love chill out man.
I'm sure that trading for Pat Mahommes was KOC's first option along with every other HC in the NFL but be realistic KOC just wants the opportunity to work with and mold a young talented QB with a winning pedigree and find me a better candidate since Joe Burrow than JJ McCarthy???
Penix went before McHandoff, so its funny how great he's supposed to be. I guess Chicago should've taken McHandoff if he is that great...lmfao I am going to say this about McCarthy. He has to throw 5 times more in the NFL than he did in college and he has to be doing that with a so so running game with players that are bigger, faster, smarter and the best of the best compared to college. I'm going to say McCarthy has a chance to make it in maybe a year or two then we will see how he does. I hope he does make it but I'm not going to put him on top of the pile in qb's. McCarthy won because he was in a winning run heavy team set up to run the ball 85% of the time. He wasn't asked to carry the team on his back compared to Penix that threw the ball 40 times a game and got his team to the national championship game by doing that not by handing the ball off all the time. Its so funny how everyone thinks they got their pick but in reality it was probably their 3rd or 4th choice...😂😂😂
I said this years Draft would show us all Kwesi's NFL Cred as a GM. Kwesi passed with flying colors. I give him an A+ for his performance this year. NE has a first year GM. He wasn't willing to take a chance and see Maye turn into a Superstar for some other team. The deal the Vikings offered was huge; the Patriots should have taken it. Kwesi did the right thing and do what he did.
@@yamisniper Now IF Maye turns into a flop NE's GM is gonna get torn to shreds in the NE Media. You know: "Ya should have taken the Vikings offer for that bum Maye." The Fans will turn on you on a dime.
A furnished apartment with a RG who will sack you himself when he isn't letting an opponent sack you, and a small center with a bad back, and two oft-injured tackles, and no LG.
With Maye, JJ wiould be worn out. With JJM, JJ will last longer. With JJ even with Kirk for five years, Vikings only get into Playoff only once and got beat by NYG.
I love how the Kwesi A$$ kisses are always saying " well yes Kwesi shiitt the bed in the draft, but look at how he is winning the UDFA battle. " 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 FOR THE RECORD IF YOU ARE NOT CONSISTENTLY DRAFTING PLAYERS WHO BUST, YOU DON'T NEED TO GET PLAYERS OFF THE STREET. I think that people don't understand that player at the top half of the draft have a higher ceiling than UDFA players.
If Maye becomes the next Josh Allen and JJ is average. Nobody is going to care about what we would’ve given up. Score North always says it’s about the quarterback, if you don’t get your number one guy, then of course there’s gonna be disappointment.
2022: trade back. Quantity over quality. 2023: stay where you are. 2024: trade up. Quality over quantity. Kwesi is open minded and has evolved. We are in good hands.
I disagree with Thor, oline wasn't good at all. McCarthys line was much better. Maye to me is still a better QB and I've been a Vikings fan for 50 years.
Got our QB of the future in the 10 slot, guy most people considered best defensive player in draft, a tall, aggressive CB, swing tackle, beat kicker in college football, sleeper of the draft in Levi Drake Rodriguez. And we still have our first next year. They killed it.
WTF Why 9s everyone HELL BENT TGAT DRAKE MAYE WAS THE GUY. That is nothing more then opinion and speculation. JJ McCarthy is the perfect fit for KOC offense and if you listen to the two of them speak... Dam they sound like the same guy, saying the same things. JJ McCarthy throws over the middle and plays under center understand pre snap reads and adjustments DRAKE Maye does not do that. DRAKE Maye DRAKE Maye fuck DRAKE Maye JJ McCarthy is was KOC guy thats obvious
So the Michigan QB with 12 completions a game vs better teams last year Harbaugh chose to run the ball (trust issues) He protected JJ. Maye was asked to completely carry Carolina Offense with a lack of weapons & pass protection. There are a lot of ways to compare these college QB situations but Oh man would McCarthy have struggled at Carolina situation. JJ is our Vikings QB I am all in on him now - But McCarthy will need 1) the Viking Offensive line 2) The Vikings Weapons 3) Time for JJ to adjust to not being hidden by scheme. JJ Ceiling is Brock Purdy and how accurately he reads defenses and gets the ball to his weapons. I would love if JJ can get there and give us an elite system QB.
This guy makes me wish Atlanta hadn't shocked the world, so we could have gotten Penix, who they really wanted. This guy is going to be worse than the worst Kurt stan.
I'm going to give Thor the benifit of the doubt because he's spent his life evaluating players, so if Thor is excited we landed McCarthy then I am excited we have McCarthy.
Thats funny as hell. A steal??? He wa the only qb left for christ sake other than Nix..😂😂😂 Thor needs to get off his high horse and quit putting McHandoff on a pedestal. Be more conservative the way he talks about him then you don't look totally stupid if he fails.
Steal? Lmfao. The only team that want JJ was the sad Vikes. Giants and Broncos played him like the gullible child he is making him tell the media he going there. Robbed!
@@scotthamilton6195 When you're devoid of reality because you only get your news from a bias, and always wrong, youtube channel... You think everyone else trolling. Silly
@@scotthamilton6195 I don’t think this is a troll dude. This is a person whose only interaction is with others online so they have no social skills to utilize in their real lives. It truly is a sad case. 😞
Lmao the Giants played us? We didn’t even trade with the Giants. The Broncos played us? So the Broncos tricked us to move up a spot to draft the guy we were going to draft anyway? And by moving up, we got tricked into giving up draft picks to a team in the same conference as the Broncos…🤣🤣🤡 man talk about dumb logic. 🤣🤣 We got tricked by the Giants to draft McCarthy so that they could take Nabers even though they drafted in front of us. We got tricked to draft McCarthy so we could help out the Jets. The stupid is strong here. 🤣🤣 The Broncos tricked us so we can help out another team that doesn’t benefit the Broncos one bit. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤣🤣 Man this stupidity hurts my head. 🤣🤣🤣seriously! How does one come up with such stupid logic? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
