When he beat JbL it was memorable because he actually had fan support and people were tired of JBL. It was fresh and new and exciting. It's a far cry from what a Cena title win is now.

Winning it from JBL and winning it from Edge at Unforgiven 06 were the only world title wins that meant anything..now if we're going with mid card belts, I would say winning the best of five series for the US title was memorable... of course they shit alll over it by having him lose it three fucking days later...

Cena's five month run as US Champ has meant more than any of his 15 WWE/World title runs. When you pass your top championship around like the only lighter in a crack house, it tends to lose it's value.

+Travis McDonald I disagree with you on that one Imo long title runs are terrible because It shows how weak the competition is not so much on how strong the wrestler is. In the attitude era they pass the title around ever 2 months or so and the title has not gotten weaker.
@jrthehunter4309
@jrthehunter4309 8 лет назад
+Nooblet92Ca in the attitude era, there was only 1 pay-per view every 2 to 3 months and there was no "money in the bank " or things like that so it felt like it was passed around less. and when you look at the 2 top guys now compared to the attitude era Rock=6 title Reigns Austin=7title Reigns.(correct me if any of those numbers are wrong) vs Cena=15 and Orton=11. So the title is passed around alot more.

U can't compare the two. U can't knock cena for not having demons like Eddie. Calling his back story boring? What do u want.. All kinds of crime or something? I'm sure Eddie would of preferred if he didn't have his issues with drugs etc. And if cena didn't have passion for the business then he wouldn't have worked his ass off for over a decade like he has.
@therighteously8454
@therighteously8454 4 года назад
Well, it's comparing apples and oranges. Eddie had to struggle with himself, drug addiction, and earning back the trust he'd lost. He was Jeff Hardy before Jeff Hardy. Now, John didn't suffer with drug addiction like Eddie, but John had his own struggles. He didn't get the push of Orton and Batista being on Evolution and dominating on Raw, he wasn't as gifted as Shelton Benjamin. John kinda just did his best with what he had. He really did come into his own having become the Doctor of Thuganomics, but even after then he really didn't become that megastar until Batista's injury after the both of them had become champion. The company had Batista win the Royal Rumble and go over the most dominant heel in the company, Triple H to win the World Heavyweight title. It was pretty clear which of the two they favored. I like John Cena, and I feel like almost every one of his title wins were really memorable, but honestly it really depends on whether or not you're along for the ride if x wrestler's title wins feel memorable to you. John fought an uphill battle to become the top guy and once he did, his star shot up and the rest is history

Cena has no especially memorable title reigns because almost nothing about his run as top star has seemed organic at all. Cena title reigns suck because he's booked to be more important than than belt, and he never has to fight and scratch for the belt. When ratings and business slows, you can without a doubt expect Cena to simply enter the title picture and win...every time. Him being more stale than chipped paint doesn't help either.

To be fair, Eddie's win meant more in my eyes because you knew there would not be 14 of them. WWE would never do that with him, even if he had survived long enough. There are guys known for a big win, but only the company darlings ever get in a position of being multi-reign holders. But for the record, the only world title win of Cena's that stands out to me is when he beat Rey Mysterio. And that was more because CM Punk came out right after with the new music and his own belt.
@Ryderz651
@Ryderz651 10 лет назад
I actually agree, I remember the most special moments of when people won their first World Championships. HBK winning the World Title in 2002 was special because of the triumph he had been through, Eddie in 2004, Randy Orton as Summerslam at 2004, Chris Benoit at WrestleMania XX, Kurt Angle at Unforgiven 2001, Batista's first two World Title reigns, Jeff Hardy's WWE and World Title wins, CM Punk winning at Money In The Bank 2011, Hulk Hogan even in 2002 winning the title was special, but nothing in my eyes could ever defeat Mick Foley's first WWE Championship win on Raw back in 1999. I feel that Cena's reigns haven't been too memorable except for his first and even that was overshadowed by Batista's win.

The moral of the story is this: A title is relevant through quality matches, great feuds and especially long reigns. Holding a belt for a week or a month before dropping it to the same guy you're going to defeat two months from now doesn't do it a favour.

Cena won his first title like a year into his career. Then maybe 2 years later he was the WWE champ. No struggle. No real climbing himself to the top. I'm no fan of Cena but he's spoken before about how people in WWE didn't think he was good enough to be included with them, and they did brush him off as someone not worth the time. Cena's ability to talk and his size is what kept him around really. Yes he has been the company go to guy for a long time now. Still it's not like Cena was hanging out doing nothing until wwe placed the belt on him. He caught a lucky break due to his size and it was the body type Vince likes in his champions, and so he got an opportunity few get in wrestling due mostly to that and his ability to talk, but it wasn't from his debut date or anything. But yeah as for memorable title wins I am really drawing a blank. I can think of memorable feuds for Cena but not title wins.

To me the biggest Cena win is the US Championship at Wrestlemania over the Big Show. Take it for what its worth. I live a few towns from where John was born and raised and he is hated here in central Massachusetts. At a small promotion Cena's Dad started shaking hands with some of us waiting in line and it was cold. He was a manager at the show, as well, and from the second he showed up outside when we were in line you heard "Cena sucks" from all the adults and a few kids yelling he doesnt. When he sas managing myself and others kept chanting" Cena sucks!"until his dad acknowledged the chant. He hit us with a great comeback I cant remember that shut us up. But his Dad is clearly a good guy. It made me respect Cena a little more. But I will never cheer for our "hometown guy" Cena because his character is so BAD and Boring. Damien Sandow is from Worcester which is the biggest city in Central Massachusetts and he is WAY more over here than Cena.

His title win against Edge in Unforgiven 2006 was memorable for every reason EXCEPT the title. It took place in Canada. It was a TLC match against a man who's considered "Mr TLC". I can't believe I'm going to say this because I AM A CENA HATER! But while it wasn't a title win but a title defense when cena wrestled triple h at wrestlemania. It was the first time cena was painted as the underdog. Alot of people didn't think cena was going to win. and he tapped triple h out. i thought that was actually a good defense. That was memorable because i don't think anyone expected cena to tap out triple h. but now this is the style of wwe. they always paint cena as the underdog in every match. the only good cena matches now is when he loses.

Probably only memorable situation with Cena that actually meant something was against Edge. Edge made things personal and hit Cena where it hurt the most to where he was forced to step it up, and Edge made Cena a worthy adversary. After that though, it was stupid muscle vs muscle feuds mostly and then Cena vs Barrett that would have been something special also b/c Wade also forced Cena to take notice but for whatever reason it was put to bed and never spoken of again.

The title has lost its luster, because the same person having won it over a million times without having to start back from the bottom after losing it is why ppl see no value in it. Each wrestler should build themselves up to the main event caliber, but he wins every time, he can go away for awhile come back in the title picture with no effort, bumping better wrestlers out of the way, to put Vince's choice back at the top. Meanwhile Eddie earned his spot, Daniel Bryan his spot, Chris Benoit, CM Punk, Jericho, Rock, SCSA, Foley, Micheals, Edge, etc as well as ppl want a challenger or an underdog, not brown noser as a champion, You can see John hasn't been the underdog since 2005, and there is really no hunger for gold in him in a long time. His promos are recycled, his moves are about the same, his gimmick is stale and theme song dont fit his character any longer. He's just the guy they put the belt when no one else can wear it. Eddie on the other hand was interesting, multifaceted, face or heel or inbetween, in and out the ring the Dude was beloved because he felt like a real person with flaws. That's why respected Eddie, not because of the drug use or his height, because he had a life outside of wrestling. John seems like he is miserable without wrestling, like he is obsessed with the concept of it, but not in a good way, you could feel Eddie passion for it, he lived and by him and hunger for it, you long celebrate his wins with him, and feels his pain of his loss with him. Cena wins so much even over superior in ring competitors than himself in the same manner every time. Eddie would do something crazy, he would explode with the Latino Heat, he might straight out wrestle his opponent or he might cheat. Eddie was an one of a kind, and was up there with Flair and Shawn with his ability in the ring, but drugs were his handicap and kryptonite. That's the only thing Cena hasn't been known for, even though steroids are a drug, but any way. Eddie more appreciated for his one win over Cena's fifteen champion because it felt like Eddie deserved it, through many years in the indys, honing his craft, treated as a B class wrestler, only to wrestle circles around every companies top guys, speaks for itself. Eddie could wrestle a broom and have a five star match, Cena can have match with Micheals, the best in ring performer to ever live, and barely get a three star match out of him.

Why does everybody dislike Cena....I mean sure the wwe throws him in the title picture every now and then but you can't fault Cena for that, you should be more made at Vince,huh and the wwe creative team. To me Cena is a hard worker inside and outside of the ring....sure his wrestling can be.....shitty at times but he's still entertaining to watch.

Not all wrestlers have came up through the indies, and u can't knock them for that because if u were given the shot at the big time sooner than someone else then u would take it. U also sound bitter about the fact cena isn't a short guy ? lol

The most memorable wins Cen has is because of nothing he brought. It was his first over JBL whch is his first so i remember it and when he went over edge who without a doubt was the best thing in WWE last time and brought all that passion and then cena went over in that TLC so memorable but only because of edge. Edge vs Cena was easily Cena's greatest feud of all time.

The biggest ones I can remember from Cena was his first world title vs JBL and then his US title win other than that I can't remember any great wins

Everyone talking about Cena not being an underdog in his first world title win you know he couldn't be an underdog as he didn't carry himself like one look at him consistently making JBL his bitch in the lead up to Wrestlemania. It's not his fault that the championships are whored off . much respect to solomonster and even Don Tony. I'm trying really hard to warm up to Kevin Castle. R.I.P Eddie

I don't think its really Eddie's run vs Cena's run. It's more of yesterdays Champions vs todays Champions. WWE has made the title mean so less these days by whoring it out so bad. I take nothing away from Edge or ena, both very hard working guys but Cena's 15, Edge's 11, they will never mean as much as the WWF title runs as the ones that were by Hogan, Savage, Flair, Warrior, Bret Hart, Yoko, HBK, Diesel, Undertaker, Austin, Triple H, Rock, Mick etc. Those guys all felt like champions to me. I know that todays wrestlers win the title more but thats because from 2006-2013 the WWE title and the WHC were just passed around like little league trophies "Here! Everyone gets one! Even you Miz!" When I heard Miz was the champ going into Wrestle Mania i wanted to throw up. It's nothing against Miz as a person but if Miz was wrestling for the WWF in the early 90's he wouldn't even be in the I-C picture. Thats another thing, the companies World champions the last 7 years couldn't even stand in the same ring as the companies I-C champs of the early 90's. Sorry but guys like Miz, Del rio, Mark Henry, and even edge aren't any where near as good as that old eras I-C champs like Mr. Perfect, Razor Ramon, HBK, Piper, Bulldog, both Harts, etc.

And just how many other title wins have been as memorable and emotional as Eddie's win over Brock? How many truly emotional title wins can you name from, say... The Rock? Hell, how many truly emotional title wins can you name from Stone Cold Steve Austin? He had big wins, but were they ever truly emotional? Maybe his first at Wrestlemania 14, but that was 50% Jim Ross, same goes for 15. See, comparing Cena to Guererro is unfair, because virtually 95% of World Championship (whatever the name) holders in WWE encounter the same problem. Here's a challenge for you all, list off how many title wins ever felt as emotional as Eddie's. Lets see how many people can come up with, and how many are debatable. If I had to pick one (since I laid the challenge), it would be Chris Benoit at Wrestlemania 20, but Eddie was a big part of that as well.

I think you have a point, generally it's the first title win that's most memorable and all the others are business as usual. The only person I can think of with more than one memorable title wins would be Brock, he beat Rocky in 02 and this year he beat Cena like nobody has before to win the title, cleanly (Cena got his one clean loss a year lol)
