Why Just WHY!! The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024) Movie Review 

In 8th grade it was my turn to pick a movie for the weekly neighborhood flickfest. 12 kids watched Phantasm and my mom got a few phone calls from sour parents. She left me that night at bedtime with; "If they can't handle horror, they can't handle life."

They never said it was a straight remake. What a bummer. Ugh.

This is the problem with modern companies. They somehow get funded, then things fall apart and are ruined because they played someone else's material😂❤

I love a good home invasion. But, I like my invasions with a twist, ala "You're Next". I want to see the thrill of the invaders with an "oh no, I think we chose the wrong house" vibe. Now, is this movie a remake of the original or is it on a different timeline, such as before or after the original? I laughed out loud when you made the comment in the theater about the boyfriend . You are not alone. I have done that too many times to count. Sometimes, I will do it just to embarrass my friends. I think I am going to pass on this, and re-watch the original. I was so surprised to see that so many people didn’t like 2008 The Strangers! I loved that film and was blown away by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. It was one of those eerie movies that stayed with me for a long time. I don’t plan on seeing the remake!!

My guess this remake trilogy was caused by writers strike they didnt need a new script to make bew movie. Just one of many coming out this summer whis planning and preproduction occured when no writers could legally sell studios scripts

The Strangers is one of the most terrifying movies I’ve ever seen!! The reason why I have a hard time watching it is because of how much it could happen and it’s happened!! The way they just f*ck with them is so horrifying!! The part where they run up on Kristen while she’s on the ground suffering from an injury to her leg (foot?? Can’t remember) is so damn terrifying that I’ve been scared since looking over my shoulder all the time!! If that happens to me I’d die of a heart attack before they have a chance to kill me!! For some reason that part is so terrifying to me!! It’s crazy too cuz horror movies are my favorite and all I watch!! I’ve watched them since I was 5-6!! But that movie….nope!! It gets under my skin and terrifies TF out of me!! (Talking about the 2008 one….haven’t seen this one

Interestingly Bryan Bertino wrote the original and has writing credit on the 2024 version.

They didn’t package it as a remake.

Is this a reboot or the "beginning "? Like what kind of trauma or experiences made them be like this. Although, in the first movie the answer was simple, just like a "speak no evil" kind of answer.

I had fun with it. I think it will pick up in chapter 2. With its box office earnings I’m hopeful we will get the next one in theaters. Great review!

I sort of feel like horror is too much for me if it could actually happen irl. So i never even saw the first one, but i remember at the time the audio trailer was played constantly on a local radio station and i had to change the station 😂

The trailer seemed to imply that it was a "how The Strangers began" so I thought we would see (controversy, because some want it to stay a mystery, while this would solve it, if done that way). I have watched some angry reviews and some that made me chuckle. Jeremy Jahns saw it with an audience of "one peoples" as he says - himself. Sinister Cinema Reviews really went into detail about why they really did not enjoy this film. 3C Films gave it a bad review too. Mostly, stupid characters and horrible acting (especially by the male lead - no one likes the character or the acting - that he makes weird acting choices), and that it is just a dollar store remake of The Strangers. So it is basically Psycho remake of Psycho that is basically frame for frame remake. Why? What a waste. Why say it is "how The Strangers began" if it is not? Thanks for your review!

There’s one particular scene where the girl is alone in the cabin. One of the strangers keeps banging on the door and asking for “Tamara”. Then starts singing a lullaby. So what does the girl do? What anyone would do… she grabs a beer and sits down at a piano and starts playing.🤦‍♂️ So freakn dumb.

At least when Wrong Turn did their reboot they went a totally different direction with the new one that was nothing like the original. Cabin Fever went this type of route by making a scene for scene remake that added absolutely nothing to the story. I really liked the Fear Street movies as they were interesting and pretty original.

Agreed. They had an opportunity to at least create an interesting, unique home invasion as the centerpiece to this movie, but they just badly copied the original. Why?

The original is top 3 always for me. Such a great film. I couldn't bring myself to watch this one in fear of ruining the original. Maybe someday..

WTF !!! What is wrong with this studio ?? Why even do this if it weren’t phenomenal?? And I agree why not a prequel ? I mean if a redo isn’t amazing why do it??? Like I honestly think this movie later in the summer (speak no evil) could be incredible with the story and the actors but if they don’t do anything significantly different I’m wondering why? For the Horror fans out there, so many Phantasm Movie's are Streaming for free. Some are not that great but it's still a good Popcorn watch. There is a load of them. More people in the Comments are talking about his shirt then the lame new repeat of Stranger's.

I liked the original. I'll leave this one in the Maybe Later pile. I'm going to rewatch the French movie, Them (2006) instead. So good.

Hey brother. I appreciate your opinions on the film. I enjoyed the film. I agree. I wish they wouldn’t have remade it but I just had to accept in the long run. I didn’t have a problem with either protagonist. I loved a lot about it but it was predictable in a lot of areas. I am looking forward to chapter 2 and 3. I am hopeful they will be more original than this one and will justify why the first part was paced the way it was.

I think the opening says the most brutal home invasion killings in history. Has to do with the actual events that these movies are based upon.

Knowing there is more parts coming makes it a little better. They could have made better decisions with this movie but hopefully the next chapters will make up for it. I hope the redhead goes goes full Sarah Conner T2 style and hunts these strangers down . But this was just a rearranging version on the original it was worth the popcorn to see this.

I felt that they should’ve left The Strangers film franchise alone…the first film was amazing, the second was horribly bad (my opinion) & now this. I personally think that like a lot of the individuals have said before, the film business needs to move passed remakes, sequels (unless needed due to unanswered questions that are lobbied for answers.) & reboots…there’s no need for any of this, due to the fact that each & every time we’ve been given any of the 3 above, the films have been horrible. I don’t count the Evil Dead film as a remake, becuz it’s based on the Necronomicon not the demons tied into it & Hellraiser, becuz the same as Evil Dead, it’s based on the Puzzle Box not the demons tied to it.

I knew as soon as I saw the trailer it was gonna be absolute trash and i refused to even give it a chance. It's getting to the point where I know immediately by the trailer and have not missed the mark at all recently. Nothing but trash is coming out lately, so disappointing for us horror fans.

Once again, thank you for taking the hit for the rest of us. Boy, it seems like certain horror movies just get lazy unfortunately. --- I haven't seen the original yet, so I may check that out at some time, but it's not at the top of my list.

(98) I was not interested in "The Strangers" because I thought the premise was boring. Sorry ...

I hate jump scares. I mean, I get why they do them, they ARE effective by causing the startle response and the benefit from the little adrenaline hit you get. I have CPTSD, but according to Tik Tok so does freaking everybody now lol, so at BEST it's a case of diminishing retuns, for me it's just annoying as HELL. Because that is my immediate, involutary reaction to my exaggerated startle response - I'm instantly pissed off. If a balloon pops, I'm mad at the balloon, if my kid accidentally scares me, I yell at my kid even though I know he didn't mean to, ect. Don't get me wrong, I know this is my problem to deal with not everyone's, so I'm fine with like, one good jump scare per movie. I'll take my little adrenaline hit, the negative effects I get from it are usually pretty short lived and I can get on with enjoying my movie. But when it's over and over and over, the negative emotions just keep coming up and it ruins the movie for me every time. Not to mention, if they are relying on multiple jump scares to make it a "horror movie", thats usually because they don't have the scary set pieces, unique plots, unsettling mood or tension building they need to make up for - you know, all the things that make me love horror movies in the first place. And like I said before, I get it, it's not all about me, I'm not some spoiled brat who expects the world go out of their way just so I don't feel uncomfortable...even my friends who haven't been stewing in 20 years of repeated trauma don't care for them. Even normal people tend to get a little anxious after having their heart rate elevated over and over again. And you get less and less positive effects from it the more you do it anyway. So anywho, thats the sermon for the day lol.

Lotta promising horror movies coming out. Lotta them not living up to the hype, clearly. So far only Late Night W/ The Devil, The First Omen, Abigail and maybe Lisa Frankenstein have held up. Oh, well. Still waiting for: MaXXXine Longlegs Alien: Romulus I Saw The TV Glow Return To Silent Hill Nosferatu They Follow(maybe) Smile 2 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice In A Violent Nature Terrifier 3 Speak No Evil with maybe a few surprises thrown in. '24 could still end up being one of the best years in Horror. But it's looking meh so far. lol

It's a watered down version of the original The Strangers. Now , I know I heard you say that Tarot is your worst movie of the year so far. You HAVE to watch I saw the tv glow . If THIS MOVIE gets higher than a 1 on rotten tomatoes, Rotten Tomatoes is being generous, lol. I was so close to waking out half way through this movie, and I don't walk out of movies. Uselly I Hate it when people say a movie is a cash grap because technically all movies are cash graps and are made to make movie studios money and if it's a good movie lots of money and most of the time really Great movies are made but because they fail at the box office to make money they will Never get a sequel even if they deserve one for the simple fact that they failed to make money I say all that to say this , this movie and Speak no Evil are truly Cash Graps there is absolutely no reason why these movies should be remade the originals were Great films and should just be left alone not everything has to be remade with no other reason but to make money I've Seen some Pretty Good remakes like Willard and Martyrs over the years but this just ain't it I will probably watch it when it comes to streaming however because I watch everything Horror movie related 🙄

This movie was pitched as an origin story in the trailer… I watched the movie last night. There is absolutely ZERO origin story in this movie.
