After watching kabaneri, I never thought of attack on titan while watching it, sure it had closed in cities with big walls, but cmon theres many books/animes with that scenario, it’s either sci-fi/fantasy type dome wall or Realistic/unrealistic huge walls to isolate. Kabaneri was a real good show for me, simple enough for me to understand and yet have a complex feel to it. Attack on titan felt like it’s own thing, it felt like Up infront real.

I dont know why this Anime didnt blow up. I love the whole Ancient Japan Steam punk aesthetic of the world. Plus TRAINS! TRAINS!!!! And I love the cities inside the walls and the technology. Also the whole Traveling from One city to Another using a Train.... So Gooood... SO!! GOOD!

Honestly, I feel like KotIF isn't really a copy as it is a major exaggeration of AoT. You like the 3DS gear AoT use? Well in our world, EVERYTHING runs on Steam! You like the walls? Well, we have MORE WALLS! You like the one Japanese girl in the show? Well, in our show, EVERYONE'S JAPANESE!

Attack on Titan screws up it's writting? Dog the show had just started. One Piece didnt even build its characters in season 1.

Enjoyed the first few episodes but the ending was a total train-wreck...

Attack on Titan just has more depth to everything. The Titans, the politics, the religion, and everything else is just deeper. Kabaneri just boiled down to a single crazy villain. That's it.

Honestly, I didn't think it was that bad. I watched this review before watching it myself so I came into more critical than I normally would've. The first few episodes felt like they were trying to hard I don't like Ikoma because I feel his character doesn't need to be so intense all the time and same for Mumei, but by Episode 5 or 7 the anime started to feel like it's own thing to me. The constantly being on the run with the steam train gave a cool chase vibe IMO. It's only similar to AoT in a very small conceptual sense and I'm sure they were intending to cash in on the AoT fanbase, but it's acutally completely different. But then again, I was always better at seeing how things are diffrent as opposed to how they're similar.

I feel like there’s one character in this show that I really wish hadn’t died. Horobi (she’s the blonde at 2:28) was very well written. Not only is it clear she is meant to be a motherly figure to Mumei, but it’s done subtly and in an incredibly effective way. She also seems extremely aware that what she’s doing is wrong or at least seems to subtly mention how Biba (the villain with pink hair) lies to get people to join him. She’s even well aware of her own upcoming death. Her subtle characterization is honestly wonderful in comparison to the other characters as she isn’t a character you would notice unless you looked for her.

Considering Araki's penchant for bombast and emotion, it's a small wonder how Death Note's first season managed to embrace subtlety and carefully crafted drama.

the timing of this anime was all wrong, since everybody was waiting for AOT S2.

I held Kabanari and Re Zero as equals when the Spring season started. It's amazing how so much changed.

Does anybody feel alone in still genuinely liking Attack On Titan unapologeticly? Like... I get it. When you don't like a popular show and constantly run into it everywhere, you feel the need to vent and make a statement. Yet it seems like the show's become too easy of a target and actual fans of the show are feeling less inclined to, well, consider themselves fans. Before, it felt like a crime to ever critique the show. Now, it feels like it's a crime to like it at all. P.S. Gigguk, the Titans' expression are meant to be creepy and disturbing af. Mans really thought AOT wasn’t a modern classic back in the day? what a time

honestly the anime felt like it's entire goal was to be badass and awesome as possible and not really worry about any sense of story or plot hence really outlandish weapons and scenarios bland characters and bad decisions cus it was all for action action action, and once the awesome spread thin they thought "Fuck lets work on the story" which it didn't really try to do in the first place.

I prefer attack on titan over this show tbh. For all the reasons mentioned in the video and because the zombies never felt like a threat. AoT had a strong feel of despair in the beginning which created tension but kabaneri never managed that

I actually personally loved the show. I found the characters to be wonderful and familial almost reminicient to the original Mobile Suit Gundam. I love Ayame alot, I found Ikoma to be pretty cool as with his broship to Takumi, and I overall loved how everyone cared about eachother.

Attack on Titan is an incredibly detailed war story featuring giants. When the Marley arc gets animated, it'll change people's views on it.

I ACTUALLY LOVE THIS SHOW

It had all the components for an excellent anime, but was absolutely fucked by time restraints with episode requirements. It needs nice long 24 episode seasons like AoT had.

This anime is not a masterpiece but is definitely not bad. I watched Kabaneri before aot so I maybe biased but even after watching it and thinking back I still like Kabaneri and my 8/10 rating doesn't change. The world building was absolutely awesome and the steam train technology idea of travelling between walled cities was very innovative. I enjoyed this show very much and this very much reminded me of the movie train to busan

While I don't entirely agree with every point brought up, I think this is a pretty good assessment of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. In all honesty I actually enjoyed the show more than I did Attack on Titan, but I think that had a lot to do with Kabaneri's art style and pace. It's a very old-school type of show in a lot of ways, and I think this show is something that would have been right at home during the late 80's to mid 90's anime scene more than the modern day. Then again that 's just me. I'm a sucker for the sort of things Kabaneri has on offer. Bombastic score, gorgeous animation, and characters that get you hyped to the max. I personally don't need a cast to be super in-depth/developed in order for me to relate to them on a basic human level, nor do I need the themes of the plot to be overly introspective. I (and I think many out there) just enjoy simple shows done well, which i feel Kabaneri honestly is. Sure it doesn't push the boundaries, but was that the goal of the show? Or this a situation where the show's creators were more so doing a homage/celebration of everything they love in anime as a medium? We may never know the answers to these questions, but I certainly know that I was entertained from start to finish with Kabaneri.

I liked Kabaneri, but ya the story was a bit mhaa, but the art work was amazing. It had a lot of potential that was wasted with bad writing and 2D characters.

Everyone is stupid because people in general in real life are stupid. These things are exactly what I expect people to do had that actually happened. The whole panic over them being half and half feels like a red scare reference, the whole show seems like references to actual events and society theory. Was never about the plot

Kabaneri’s 1st episode was so good. The rest of the season was such a let down. While AOT got better as it went on

I personally liked Kabaneri, I like the setting the general plot idea and so on, and I´m one of this guys who doesn´t like Attack on Titan.

Actually Mumei is not a badass. The whole point of the season was showing that she was actually weak in a lot of ways. Ikouma and her become a team that complement each other's weakness. The setting is similar to AoT but the direction of the story is completely different where AoT leaves you hanging to synthetically create suspense without actually going anywhere, while Kabaneri actually goes through arcs like a normal anime and it builds up. Some might thing the final villian was weak but it was actually very well thought out. People think they are entitled to a lot of things without actually earning it. Is survival something we take for granted? That is what you need to think about watching the final arc of the show. A kind of conclusion AoT really doesn't build up for.

idk i wouldnt compare this to AoT, both are great shows in their own way. I think this show is simply amazing ^^ it has alot of twist and atleast include some realism of people fucking up o-o. Sure it has the same wall concept as AoT but it has its own different story.

Mumei is my most hated character here. Not just because she listened to her "brother" she's legitimately hateful. The first time I hated her was when she didn't listen to the protagonist's plan, thus, killing people. The show tried so hard to justify her acts but brushed it off in the end. I was disappointed. I wanted to see her being slapped or something. They just accepted her like it was nothing.
