Why King Cold Doesn't Transform Explained 

isnt it canon that frieza's true form is the dildo one and that he uses the other forms to suppress himself?

Even if King Cold could transform, does anyone really think Trunks, of all people, would let him transform? The one character that we can all unanimously agree wouldn't let that happen?

something to keep in mind; Frieza's transformations were actually meant to repress and control his enormous power so the first form we originally see him in is actually his fourth form. his final form being his original Maybe Cold doesn't have any transformations, because he could control his power, he never needed to repress it

My logic for why King Cold can’t transform: Because if he was able to do so after seeing Freiza get easily killed by Trunks, then naturally he would’ve thought “Oh no, my powerful son got killed, I need to go full power to survive” and then done so. But that didn’t happen, so we’re chillin with what happened

It's a fun idea. Either he was in that form because he had more control or he didn't have the power to suppress as far down as his son. The actual reason is that he was there to shock the cast and then hype up Trunks, and Toriyama never would have thought about it either way. I like that if anyone wanted to write him back in, there's that loophole that maybe he died prior to being allowed to transform, even in the original Goku fight. It wouldn't be believable because it's Goku. But you could do it.

As I've gotten older, I realized King Cold's potential isn't really massive as much as I thought it was as a kid. He truly was just a business man/negotiator (even trying to negotiate with Trunks in death), not really a fighter & doesn't exhibit those violent tendencies like his son that he double-downed on in Super. The only thing that has me a little curious is how he is able to make so many connections to where he is able to be aware of Majin Buu & Beerus. I personally think he's made dealings with Beerus (maybe finding a way for him not to kill Frieza by bribing him), or some of the different gods who rule other parts of the universe.

Because Freiza's true form is his physically smallest, least visually intimidating form, I always assumed that Freiza's species originally possessed the ability to transform for intimidation purposes. Only Freiza himself used the transformation to suppress his tremendous power, every other member of his species either used the transformations in order to appear menacing, or stayed in their natural form most of the time (like Cooler). Thus King Cold didn't transform to fight Trunks because his other forms weren't any more powerful, they are just cosmetically different.

Okay, the way I always thought about this was King Cold didn’t have enough time to transform, and he had a feeling that if he did (thanks to trunks’ no BS attitude) trunks would kill him mid-transformation or in his 3rd form. Not to mention he would also have to power up to 100% and it seemed pretty hopeless. His best move was bribery or hoping to catch him off guard

Still a shame he didn't get more screentime, King Cold's design is cool as well as his demeanor.. and the idea of Frieza but more calculated and ruthless, bypassing all the nonsense and getting the job done would be extremely dangerous.

One thing i read is that Frieza forms arent like Transformations but contentions to his power, his original being the final form, which could be right but i am not sure If it's canon but one thing we should look at is that even if Cold could transform it's implied that no matter what Frieza is stronger than him because it's been confirmed that Frieza is stronger

I was always under the impression that the 4th form was the "true" one for Freeza's species. He did say that forms 1-3 were just there to suppress his powers and conserve energy. Freeza liked hanging out in his first form, so perhaps King Cold liked hanging out in his 2nd form (assuming he even has a 1st form like Freeza does). It's kind of like how we didn't see some of the Saiyan characters turn into Great Apes but we know they could. Of course this is Toriyama we're talking about so it's unlikely we'll ever get a straight answer.

I think he could transform but was just killed before he had the chance to. It was more in line with his character to use diplomacy over brute strength. On top of the fact that King Cold was aging and was probably rusty, so he couldn’t transform as easily as he could during his youth. Just my speculation of course, i don’t actually know.

It is entirely possible that King Cold CAN transform, but it isn't stronger. Maybe he trained in his second form to be taller and more imposing. I think it's stated that final form Frieza is actually the form he was born in and he uses the transformations to suppress his power, so it might not mean they're the same for all members of Frieza's race

I always theorized that cold couldn't transform because freeza was a mutation in his own race resulting in the enormous power and needing to suppress himself, made the 3 weaker forms.

I think Frieza’s and King Cold’s motivations are fundamentally different as well. King Cold is more practical and complacent in a sense that he isn’t constantly being driven by his own ego the way Frieza is. Though all villains display a degree of antisocial behavior, Frieza leans a lot farther into narcissism than other villains with the 2 closest comparisons being early Vegeta and Cell who were both directly influenced by Frieza. Frieza thinks of everyone and everything as being beneath him but like a narcissist also craves their validation so his desire to display his superiority and achieve more power and transformations is more driven by ego than necessity. That’s the reason he acts so rashly in Super to get his revenge on Goku because all he can think about is the humiliation he felt and needing to reclaim his superiority

I think he does have transformations similar to Freeza but he uses his 2nd form because it's the tallest, most imposing. Cold definitely cares about appearances. Not only does he have the snazzy armor (which Freeza also wore but broke prior to transforming) but it even has the cape attached to it, something no one else has, not even his own son.

Here's a funny idea. What if King Kold's form is actually like Frieza's first form, making him super gigantic in his 2nd form?

I just always assumed king cold was in his second form because it just makes intuitive sense Both frieza and cooler are smaller in their "final form" and beef up in their 100% form which is coolers single transformation so I like to think that king cold simply always stayed in that suppressed second form because it made him a more physically intimidating ruler due to being able to tower over everyone

There are no official statements about whether King Cold can transform or not. The closest thing we have is a a blurb from the 'Dragon Book' that states that "King Cold appears to be the type to transform". Toriyama did state himself that King Cold is "a mutant with an abnormally high power level" and that Frieza was "still in possession of the mutant traits". Of course we don't really know what 'mutant' means in this context, it may or may not be referring to the ability to transform and perhaps is just stating that Cold and Frieza have high power in general. Until we get any further explanation, my personal headcanon is that King Cold does have (at least) as many transformations as Frieza, but remains in his 'second form' due to the intimidating appearance and because he **needs** to suppress his full power, due to his advanced age. Perhaps in the days of his youth, and the days in which he established his empire, he utilized his 'final form', which I theorize is at the very least, even more powerful than Kaioshin (which would explain why Cold told Frieza about not messing with Buu and Beerus but didn't bother to mention Kaioshin). Perhaps in the past, King Cold had a run in with Kaioshin and nearly defeated him until Beerus stepped in and threatened him, afterwards making a deal; that so long as Cold doesn't mess with Kaioshin (and Kaioshin doesn't interfere with Cold or his empire), he can freely do as he wishes throughout the universe - so long as he makes sure to destroy very specific worlds at certain times, thereby doing Beerus's own job for him (and allowing Beerus to take even longer naps). But as the decades (perhaps centuries? Millenia?) passed, King Cold's body became unable to maintain his full power without running the risk of destroying his body, so he used transformations in order to suppress his power, eventually resting on his 'second form'. This form was still more than powerful enough to ensure that no mortal at the time could even come close to him - save for one, his son, whom he created to be the eventual successor to his empire. Even in Cold's suppressed 'second' form, he was still slightly more powerful than Frieza (at the time), which was to ensure that Frieza wouldn't betray him and try to kill him - which Frieza would have likely tried to do so, going by statements he made in 'Resurrection F' and Super about hating being "bossed around" and ultimately glad his father was dead. Of course we all know that in retrospect, Frieza had far more 'potential' than Cold, which wasn't fully realized until after his resurrection (which is honestly a huge plot hole). Perhaps Frieza's own offspring would also have more potential than him as well, and so on. But the pride of the 'Cold family' means that they probably wouldn't even *want* to have a child who could potentially overthrow them - at least not until they are very old and need a successor.

I believe that King Cold could transform, but his fear kept him from doing so. There's also the fact that, more than likely, Trunks wouldn't have given him the chance to do so. As a result, King Cold tried to kill trunks in a more practical manner as opposed to using brute force.

You’d think they would all look like first form friezas and all learned to develop new forms and king cold just happened to stop at his second firm. Although that kinda suggests that he would be wayyy more powerful than his sons and we know that frieza’s final form is his regular

I always thought that K. Cold can transform and that the form we see is the final one. Otherwise why would he be in panic against Trunks if he had more transformations? To be fair he was right about the idea of blowing up Earth from far away because listening to Freeza brought their deaths. If we consider Cooler for a sec than they are with the same style of no bullshit just business. Freeza underestimate every enemy besides the fact that he is wasting time. One of the things that was weird to me in his revival movie- He said that if he trains for 4 months he can reach 1.3 M when by now he should be far above it. I think K. Cold was stronger than Freeza at the time but simply gave the stage to his son for boosting his confidence.

I always thought he didnt bother transforming because he seen how easy his more powerful son got killed so he tried to talk and get the sword which he thought was making trunks stronger and if he started transforming obviously that would tip trunks off to his plan to trick him by talking

I’d like to think that since he was the strongest mortal in the universe for a long time, he mastered his power as he aged. Transforming for him would be nothing more than show.

Cold either didn't have a transformation, was already in his "true" form, or felt that higher transformations would make no difference because Trunks was too powerful. Commenting on the movie quote, I think it meant that Frieza would just transform to his 2nd form to look taller, which resembled the form his father had, instead of hinting that Cold has a higher form. Also, I guess Cold would had just given the ability to transform or repress powers to his offspring. It would've been cool to have explored and developed Cold's character and powers more in DBZ.

I feel like you are the only one who understands King Cold, great video. I have always thought that Frieza picked his 2nd form to look like his father and his first form to look like a younger / smaller version of his father. Frost having the same forms was BS to me.

I have two ideas, perhaps King Cold wasn't anywhere near as gifted as his son was maybe Frieza was a more advanced version of his father's dna and Cold just was at his limit which would explain why he was so stunned by Frieza's defeat on Namek and after on earth, or Cold simply hadn't even thought about increasing his body and never learned he was capable of being like that of Frieza's power and transformations to increase his strength and as Frieza stated he was born a prodigy and never bothered to train like Frieza, Cold was probably to lazy and arrogant with his own power never bothered himself, though it would have been a cool thing for the show even as a non cannon film to have him transform against an ssj 2 Vegeta or Goku also nice choice of clips and manga columns for this vid mate 👍💯

The reason king cold doesn't transform is that in their species has hyper-evolved to have niche transformations. What this means is that yes every member of his race can transform. However each transformation does have its merits and difficulties. Namely we can state this because it means that each member of the race has a form in which they are accustom to. Before I address each of the forms I should mention one key note about Toriyama's magic system aka ki and powerlevels. Ki is the energy of life, power levels read the overall parameters of life. Meaning the scouters read based on the amount of energy the target unleashes in that moment. From the farmer who had a power level of 2. Meant that ate that moment his power level was 2. I say this because power levels aren't ki. Power levels just show the status of ki, a subtle but important thing to know. In summary think of power levels as the overall limit of how much energy you can produce. If the most energy you can produce is 1,000 then throughout the day every action utilizes energy so it can steadily decline. Said this your power level can also temporarily go above your limit of 1,000. I say temporary cause most organisms have a limiter in their genes. Breaking this limiter causes an awakening of some kind, but it is unnatural to body and causes incredible strain. Why did I mention of all of this before discussing Freiza forms. Well it's simple we know the min and max amount of energy Frieza can do. In his first form he stated it stands around 530,000, with that he managed to destroy the saiyan planet. What many fans forget is that once Frieza uses up that energy it takes time for him to build back. We know that Frieza declared his power level is million. However, we also know Frieza is braggart so he always saves a bit of power so let's push it to 1.5 million. For Frieza to go from 530,000 to a 1.5 million is impossible unless his transforms. Upon his second form we see him spend energy to trigger the transformation. We know mass can't be gained from nothing. So Frieza metabolizes his own energy to forcibly evolve. Now what many people won't understand is that such a transformation is exceedingly painful and troublesome. It appears as his body is evolving to the next state that can handle his power. This makes sense when applying it to his third form. Which due to its larger head allows it be the smartest of his forms, and is the fastest. Frieza was able to unleash multiple death beams at once. Normally for him a single death beam is enough to use multiple also take his energy. Frieza final form was one that caught me off guard and took a while before I realized what was going on. Frieza's final form is created by expanding his exoskeleton throughout his entire body. An exoskeleton that can survive the vacuum of space, severe winds and heat. It's this that is Frieza greatest strength. Maintaining a fully body exoskeleton would require tons of energy. I believe when Frieza boasted that his power level often meant when scounters read his transformations the numbers would've been excessively high. Now we can finally address King Cold. As we saw throughout the story King Cold created the empire long before Frieza was even born. He stated that he would leave everything to Frieza. Given King Cold's brief statements we can tell he is calm, rational, and authoritative. Less of a tyrant like Frieza, but an actual King. As such he delegates his thoughts in order to achieve the most efficient tactics. Choosing his second form to maintain works on many levels, especially psychological. If we humans suddenly saw a ten-foot overly muscular being, backed by soldiers and alien technology logically we would submit. After all no mere human can overcome such physical truths. King Cold uses his second form simply as a means of intimidation, then with his sharp tongue and rational mindset, he can conquer planets. By maintaining his second form we see that he is much larger than Frieza. So the longer one remains in whatever form they become more accustomed to. Knowing all of this it makes sense why King Cold used Frieza as he did. He made Frieza literally into his nuke. Repeatedly cycling through forms is stressful on the body. Repetition of this would steadily increase your overall power level. This also means when you devolve you will have excess energy to burn allowing for powerful ki attacks. Now applying this thought to humans. If humans could accomplish what Frost Demons can do. Would mean that we could alter our height, weight and metabolism at will. So let's say resources are abundant we can take up fully grown adult bodies. Whilst we live in that form our bodies we could use to a certain amount calories we burn naturally. Then if resources disappaer or the environment becomes harsh we wouldn't worry. For as we would be able to condense our height and weight. Due to bones being more complex than muscle and fat. We would have larger heads, but as we kept up this process we could reduce it for more energy. Yet the larger heads would allow us to reason more effectively. Eventually resources would start coming back. Logically the earlier you can get resources the greater the means for survival. We would prioritize a form that is physical daunting produce solely muscle fibers. It is this form that would make one able to challenge any competition. Finally once one is ready to reproduce asexually they will require a form that utilizes energy efficiently. By burning all the excess muscles we would eventually reach a form that is child like. Yet this form would boast the highest energy release. If the condtions and timing is adequate to superb a spawn could be made. To conclude my analysis I would simply state Toyotaro is incredibly skilled, but lacks imagination. Instead of adding more he could've further establish Toriyama's world building instead conflict with it. It shows that some fans like anime, some like manga, myself I like the creator of the story. As such it would do justice if more races in Dragon Ball get more attention. If they created a Dragon Ball: Empire. Showing how King Cold built his empire and how he trained Frieza to make full use of each form would've been excellent way to create a new fan base entirely. Cause saiyans aren't the only thing that makes Dragon Ball. We could see various frost demons with unique final forms that best fits themselves. Like one that kept the hardened spikes forming blades for cutting attacks. Perhaps others with greater exoskeletons forming armor. Like we see in Universe six, Frosts final form produces a highly potent paralytic nerve agent. Given their theme we could base their country on Rome. Where their species would travel to other worlds dominating, all lead by King Cold's ancestor. They would allow prisoners to fight for their freedom in coliseums. This would be an excellent way of introducing a Saiyan for the first to their species. Maybe this could be were the legend of Yamoshi truly began. That within the coliseums many saiyans would fight any for survival. That if a Saiyan loses they would have their tails cut off, showing great dishonor. As we saw in the imagery the first super saiyan god still had a tail, and Vegeta hair style. In fact I would design Yamoshi as being a blend of all the Saiyans. Born with a high power level and intelligence like Vegeta. Known for incredible Zenkai and Rage to adapt mid fight like Broly. Yet has a cheerful disposition and enjoys helping others like Goku. That eventually could have built a small army to rebel. However this would introduce Yamoshi character flaw that he likes the Coliseums cause he was born into it. As many were prisoners that remember better days. All Yamoshi would know is combat and nothing else. Then when his comrades would use him as symbol of their freedom. Forcing Yamoshi between a rock and hardspace. Does he stay obedient and continue the life he has always known or does it risk everything for a dream. It would eat away at him. King Cold is transformed... He never got to his original form cause Trunks didn't let him. Freeza was so powerful he couldn't even stay in the form his dad did... cause 1 million power is too much to carry around so he reduced it even more. So... if he did transform he'd just be a slightly smaller target for Trunks.

It's actually stated in official source material that King Cold can transform like Frieza. But it is heavily implied he is in his original form rather than his 2nd suppressed form and that Frieza dedicated his 2nd suppressed form to his father's original form.

There was a interview with Akira Toriyama. Where he stated that King Cold had more forms. Also, his true form was around the same level as Cell's final form.

Quick answer = because trunks killed him too quickly. Naturally cold has a 4th form because Frieza says it's his true form and the other 3 are just suppressed forms also frieza was born in his 4th form

King Cold is confirmed to be weaker than Frieza. He gave up his position to his son while he was still young, signifying Frieza had surpassed his father in strength. Since King Cold is in the huge horned form, it could be said that unlike Frieza, he doesn't have the midget form, so we can speculate he is at very most half of Namek Frieza's power. When Frieza was upgraded with tech he became even stronger, so having Trunks kill Frieza so easily would definitely have put King Cold on the edge. What Krillin and Gohan meant when they said King Cold's power was similar to Frieza's, is the familial similarity. As for what comes to Goku not being able to defeat fully powered up King Cold and Frieza in the future timeline, did ya miss the part where Goku managed to keep up with sword wielding Trunks with just his finger? The real reason we never saw King Cold transform, is because there was no need for it, and Toriyama couldn't be bothered to create extra designs for a character meant to hype up the next arc in the story.

Also it's entirely possible that Frieza created his forms himself,as Is the case with cooler And his "5th form" and the fact the golden form is only technically a form because frieza wanted something to show off the grand scale of his training so he made a gold form

Ok so my thinking for this has always gone as follows. So we know that for Frieza his form that looks like King Cold is his second form. But we also know that those extra forms are actually used to suppress Frieza's power and that his "final" form is actually his true form. So it always made sense to me(and I think you make a lot of the same points and just go the opposite direction to this) is that King Cold is in the same form Frieza had but just simply isn't as strong as Frieza so his most suppressed form is that form. So that means that even though he COULD potentially transform it just wouldn't have mattered in the fight with Trunks because he is so much more powerful than even Frieza that he stomps him without any effort(which is why King Cold assumed it was the sword giving him that power). So instead of the idea that King Cold took the sword because he had no other option it always made more sense to me that he had other transformations to get to the "true" form of Frieza's race but that they wouldn't have mattered since Trunks was so much stronger. So he kind of had to believe the sword was the key in a way because otherwise he stood no chance. Kind of like how not all Super Saiyans are the same power level when they first achieve it, I think it makes sense that not all members of Frieza's race have the same power in their true form. That is my thinking anyway. I could see it going either way but this has always been my thought process.

Final Form Frieza is canonically his true form and the rest are supressions. All of his races's members have that as their true form, King Cold just takes his second weakest due to a lack of need to fight and it being more imposing than the rest, with Cooler's 5th form being a power up from his 4th, true form. Whether Chilled has the same final form or if the final form is what it is through darwinian evolution and Chilled being from a time where First Form was the True Form is unknown due to the lack of canonicity and him not having as much screen time as Cooler.

My personal headcanon is that Freeza is just a mutant amond mutants, and so while King Cold is stick at 2nd form and Cooler had to work for his Final Form and Fifth Form, Freeza popped out in his final form and had to figure out the lower transformations, which is why King Cold was willing to cede control to Freeza on the spot.

This comment has nothing to do with Cold but when you said Frieza could have found his transformations, it kinda confused me for a bit. Because didn't Frieza say that he chose the Golden forms appearance, so wouldn't that mean he chose his other form's appearances too?

dang... my impression was that the frost clan had the ability to somewhat tailor their forms to their liking. I remember hearing somewhere that Frieza has mentioned that he uses his 1st form because it's more comfortable, and not blowing up the expensive scouters constantly by accident is probably a bonus. It would make sense that they are able to adapt their bodies to different circumstances and as they grow more powerful their biology feels the need to morph and adapt a more efficient form to harness that power. Frieza is a prodigy compared to his father and while King Cold is powerful, his body may never have had the need to change past the 'second form'

I always thought King Cold was wasted potential. They could've left him out there as a looming, smarter, more mature, if indistinct threat quite a bit longer. I mean they could still have Frieza go to Earth and get killed easily to make Trunks look cool and show how dangerous the androids would be, but man it would've been more interesting if Cold basically told Frieza that he'd be an idiot to go to Earth looking for a fight with the guy who beat him, only for him to go anyway and Cold later gets news Frieza was killed and is like "Foolish boy. I warned him. Looks like I must leave retirement. Best avoid Earth for now and keep it under surveillance. while I strengthen my position and myself. Their time will come; but patience... for now."

My headcanon was always that every member of friezas species has the final form, but not everyone gets weaker when they transform. King Cold is simply a rare example of a member of Friezas species that gets stronger by transforming instead of weaker.

Theory: Friezas species are like certain species of insect with multiple metamorphosis into different instars. First form is a larval form, final form is the adult form. Frieza transforms into back into his larval form to avoid learning how to control his power enough to not break everything around him. Cold only needs to transform back to 2nd form to maintain that sort of control.

I think you made several logical mistakes here: - it was canonically stated Freeza actually transformed _down_ from his 4th Form. - Future Trunks literally 2-shot both mecha Freeza and 2nd Form Cold. He was that far ahead of both. - Yardrat Goku was blocking future Trunks sword with a single finger. He was that far ahead of future Trunks - If there is one DBZ character that wouldn't let Cold transform, it is Future Trunks. Just ask Semi Perfect Cell. - King Cold 2nd Form was stated as on par with Mecha Freeza. No way he didn't have the next two forms if he was that strong in 2nd - Just because Cold is stronger, doesn't mean he is interested in conquering the Universe. He lets his Son play at that. With all that, I think: - King Cold absolutely could transform - Future Trunks absolutely would not have let him. He was talking only due to a lack of hostile actions by Cold - King Cold knew he would get killed if he tried. So the sword gambit was his best bet at that moment. And he was arrogant enough to believe he would manage it with the sword - King Cold still would have lost to Yardrat Goku, 4th Form or not. By this point the family was just a walking Worf Effect.

I feel like logically King Cold was in his final form simply because of who he was going up against. Like, his son got folded once before fighting a Super Saiyan and Frieza even implied the two of them might need to squad up if things go south. Unless Cold was just stupid and didn't transform he was probably already in his final form.

My theory is that king cold simply found a way to use all of his power in any transformation that he wants and just prefers being in his second form.

If king Cold got stronger like Frieza I can see him having a silver form.

This could also imply that Cold has an easier time controlling his strength than his sons. Since he seems to always be at full power.

Lol when it comes to the Z Warriors waiting for their opponent to transform to fight them at their best, i always figured Future Trunks was the exception to that rule. Mostly because he lives in a future where destruction is the norm. I mean, he killed King Cold immediately (i know he doesnt have a transformation, but its fun to image). He wanted to immediately kill Semi Cell. And then he also killed Imperfect Cell. He was not taking any chances whatsoever 😂 he was not against taking the easy way out

here is the thing Frieza's 4th form is really his true form so cold can't have a second form without having a true form to begin with

One thing missed which everyone seems to miss is that when Freeza was explaining his transformations to Vegeta he says “I’m unique in that my transformations are to keep my uncontrollable power controllable” or something along those lines. Meaning he’s unique in that his transformations aren’t transformations to boost his power but they’re actually suppression forms. The fact he said I’M unique and not “MY RACE is unique” is pretty much confirmation only he can do it the way he did.

I feel like the only reason we wanted to believe King Cold could’ve been on par or stronger than Frieza was when Frieza said on Namek, something along the lines of the abuse he took from his father/family was the only time he felt pain before his fight with Goku. But that could’ve been back when Frieza was very young and didn’t reach his potential yet. I’m just surprised that King Cold didn’t snuff him out before he reached his potential out of fear Frieza would over throw him. And why didn’t frieza just over throw him if he was far more powerful? He doesn’t seem like the type to be bound by honor or loyalty right lol

I didnt see mention of it but i think its worth bringing up that in the game legacy of goku 2 for the gba you do get to view a enemy database of sorts and they have info on frieza and king cold and if i remember correctly king cold had much higher hp but his other stats were inferior to frieza but this is a gba game so take it with grain of salt if you want to use that info for scaling, also worth mentioning that in resurrection of F frieza sause he never trained a day in his life or something like that. So his forms might just be purely genetic and that the entire frieza species is just genetically blessed with naturally insane power levels. With that said king cold knew he was stronger than most and given his personality probably felt his own power was enough and never sought to improve and probably prefers a more political ruling rather than one based on tangible strength. So i think king cold CAN transform but due to his ruling style never does and/or isnt as proficient transforming due to neglecting that ability.

he keeps his tall form as a sign of power, that’s why freeza was gonna use the dragon balls to become taller. It’s just a status for him to be in the biggest form regardless of power. Reason why he didn’t transform is more than likely because he’s retired and hasn’t been in a fight in years. at this point he’s naturally strong but hasn’t had recent experience

gonna return to this but I just gotta wonder what the differences between 2nd stage Frieza and King Cold if you put them side by side which leads into the next thought; if King Cold is just visually different (without unique armor) by wrinkles... what would an old age Frieza race look like?

Couple of things 1.) King Colds PL is probably over a million like 2nd form Frieza, remember back then even having PL over the 100K was unfathomable, so King Cold being over a million would be considered very strong. 2.) Frieza was a prodigy, he could go beyond even that of his father hence why he is astronomically stronger. 3.) When Frieza and Cold were coming to earth it could speculated that Frieza was suppressing his Ki whereas Cold already stayed at his max or near it hence why they were similar in PL.

Just pointing out one slight hole probably insignificant but Future Trunks is the one of the few exceptions to the transformation rule having no issues with killing somebody before letting them transform. From his perspective being alone in battles in his timeline he’s not down for risking lives a fun fight. He don’t play that sayain pride shit. He’s with that Kobra Kai mentality strike first strike hard blow them up and be clutch to take care of business to protect people. My example is that he was willing to and did strike his father to prevent a transformation to Perfect Cell

6:50 hmm I wonder.... If they are near each other in power, and King Cold doesn't have the same mutations as Freeza. Does this mean king cold trained. 🤔 Or was able to have way more power in a "lower" form than Freeza. The reason I say "lower" is because I was under the impression that Freeza's 'Final Forms' was how he was born. However, in Dragon Ball Super Broly, we see Freeza's 'First Form' has different colors, presumably indicating youth. So, does the signs of youth stay as he made these lower forms. Was that his actual form at birth. 🤔 which brings a further thought... what's the purpose of these weaker forms from a lote perspective 🤔

The characters not standing a chance against Cold works on the assumption that King Cold had parity with Freeza's power, or would get the same power multiplies from transforming. Saying they are similar could mean a lot of things. A similar life energy? Note when Imperfect Cell shows up they can identify Vegeta, Piccolo, Goku, Freeza and Cold coming from him. If they are saying 'similar in power' more so than similar energy signatures then something I say a lot when people argue Cooler was stronger than Freeza is "did Cooler know how much his brother suppressed his power"? I honestly have believed for a while that Trunks took Freeza so off guard he didn't have time to power up despite it being the rule he has to sit and wait for characters to transform or reach their full power. Trunks is a rebel. He doesn't care about the rules. This is just one of those things that are nebulous and that people will argue about forever.

Maybe king cold can transform but stays in his second form as he’s really tall and it shows height and dominance being the “king” while frieza was the “prince” plus he would never need to be in his original form as being in his second form would be strong enough to deal with anyone, before trunks and Goku came around. But if he can’t transform then idk, the true answer is that toriyama just wanted Frieda’s dad to look menacing and towering over the small frieza to emphasize that he’s also in charge and Frieza’s dad/ ex-emperor

Well, Multiverse made a nice point about the potential for King Cold. Cold has never had the urge or need to train, so his latent potential was never reached. Ginyu who stole the body of King Cold, had a thirst for power who utilized stronger transformations than Frieza. This all shows that the frost bloodline has transformational traits. We can all theorize if King Cold could transform or not. But they could not simply make this happen after the namek saga. Another arc of King Cold pummeling everyone; including future Trunks & Goku the story would not allow it at this point on. Hypothetical, it is possible that King Cold could have a transformation we haven't seen, but we know almost nothing about his side story; he was purposely created to let us see how powerfull future Trunks was, nothing more or less. If they intended to make King Cold the villain, he would wipe everyone out. But he didn't; he passed the torch to his son, Freeza.

Trunk didn't even give him a chance to monolog about transforming let alone let him actually do it. It was a rare moment in dbz history where the Protagonist didn't fuck around and find out.....Trunks pulled up and got straight to killing .
