One thing that I genuinely miss from Black ops 1 zombies was how absolutely wild Pack-a-Punch was. You had weapons getting absurd effects and attachments and it was honestly just kind of fun to pack a punch weapons that would normally be garbage because of what they might do. Like having the rocket launcher go from just being a pretty crappy weapon to having a 10 shot magazine didn't exactly fix it but it was fun to use

Not to mention Kino had the absolute most godly banger soundtrack in zombies history to this day!

While Mob of the dead and shadows of evil are some of my favorites it's kind of sad we don't get simple maps anymore I mean the last original ones were the tranzit survival maps and if you don't count that it was Ascension or Shangri-La

Imo it’s a shame we don’t get more kino style maps. Simple, accessible, and polished. More time than not, I want to play zombies with my feet kicked back and some beer and pizza within arms reach. Sure the complicated Easter Eggs are rewarding, but they’re also a pain in the butt. 9/10 times I play, I don’t want to be looking up steps on my phone, pausing the game every few minutes, and stalling out rounds while I carry out fetch quests. I just want to play the game. And many modern maps feel like they’re designed just to facilitate the quest instead of being enjoyable to play casually. Every zombies game should have at least two of these fairly straightforward and laidback maps, because most of the people that play zombies just want to shoot zombies.

I grew up on this game. As a young adult now, I still have black ops one. This map is not forgotten

One thing not mentioned is this for the most part was the first game to do a complete arsenal switch in the mystery box. Gone was WW2 weapons, in was highly detailed (for the time) Cold War weapons. Still distinctly remember rocking either Mustang and Sally, or playing team medic with the upgraded crossbow and/or ballistic knife.

Kino is the only reason I still play cod games today, specifically cod zombies, playing it on bo3 last year after years of not playing it just didn't feel the same as playing it on the og bo1, I don't have a last gen console with the game so I just got it on pc this year, brought back some good memories

I graduated college playing this map. It was my favorite by how perfect the formula just worked. Survive, make it to the theater, pack a punch. So easy!

I wonder how Kino would've looked in WaW's grittier engine? I saw some concept art for it and I imagine it would've looked amazing. The footage of Downfall from WaW made it finally click in my head, "Oh right, campaign mission/mult map turned into zombies"

Ah back when I was 16, not a fan of CoD (still not all that much), going to parties and doing shit I shouldn't be doing with everyone grouped around a TV taking drinks to Zombies. Good times...

To this day I still desire that feeling of fear and adrenaline from the first few times I played that map being my first foray into the zombies mode. Moon was pretty good at replicating it tbh but something is special about Kino in my heart

I prefer the thunder gun to the WW, but just a tiny correction, it isn't infinite! At the high rounds, (25+) it will kill most but just blow some away, and they'll get back up. Like I said I prefer the TG, because Its still pushing them away from the player, which is the point lol, but you also don't need to worry about splash damage. This brings back so many memories of staying up all night playing BO1 with my friends in middle school. Multiplayer is where we settled things, but Zombies was the real game for us. Love this series, I never truly appreciated the WaW Zombies mode and how integral it was to future games' success. Black Ops 1 is still my favorite, though :P

I’ve only watched up to this point but hopefully you mention the trailers. I remember watching new dlc trailers just for the zombies content. The trailers generated so much hype back in the day.

I think kino told the entire zombies story but we never figured it out.

Alot of people give kino shit for not innovating, but I would say kino innovates just as much as any of the maps before it, two new trap variants, a new wonder weapon, the nova crawlers, fire sale, and even small things some people might not notice like the box spawning randomly on the map (all maps before had a set first box location).

This was the first zombies map I ever played. I think I was like 9 or something, so I was understandably terrified out of my mind. I also have since grown to despise nova crawlers, for obvious reasons.

Training in the alley at 2:35 was so nostalgic. That’s where I would train back in the day because I thought only noobs train on the stage 😂 it actually was pretty decent, I would make it to atleast 50 which for my skill level back then wasn’t bad

Pretty sure the TG didn't do infinite damage. If it did then it wouldn't just knock zombies over in the later rounds, it'd kill them all outright

Though I do agree that having a digestible map is a good thing, especially for onboarding folks. I personally don't at all prefer Kino, as it is the weakest offering in BO1, because it does nothing new and interesting. The Nova 6 crawlers and the fire sale nothwithstanding, because those are done to death in other maps of this game. At the time I loved the map, as it alongside WaW helped me get into the mode. But as Shadows is beloved in hindsight, Kino is not so much in my opinion due to the lack of anything worthwhile on the map. I still play and enjoy it from time to time as I do most other maps, but it is by far my least favorite on BO1. I don't think iconic saves it either. That and nostalgia are poor reasons to highly rate a map or game. It must stand up to objective fact and reasoning. Even Five has things to offer that Kino can't match; death machine, Nova 6 crawlers being avoidable totally, bonfire sale, an interesting boss round that isn't the infinitely rehashed dog round, a boss that gives you options, buildable traps, difficulty, and even a tactical wonder weapon that doesn't just hold your hand. Again, I'm not saying the map is bad, just objectively the worst offering on BO1. That's not saying much though. The on disc experience should be lesser than the build up of DLC, otherwise why buy the DLC? There should be bonuses and additions. Kino is so vanilla it might as well be the poster child for that flavor in COD zombies. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing outstanding about it either.

Black ops 1 was terrible. They released it off of the hype of MW2. MW2 was gamechanging. We thought BO1 would be the same. But they fucked up the sniping with the sway on the L11. Man I swear itd be crazy if that was the name on the sniper. I havent played multiplayer in years. The maps were good. The snow map was good, nuketown was good. But they fked up sniping man. Zombies was the saving grace. BO1 was decent. On the ranking list it still falls below COD4 and MW2
