If your lettuce plant grows tall or grows flowers this means is Bolting is triggered by warm weather and the long days of summer, usually when the daytime temperatures climb above 75°F and nighttime temperatures are over 60°F ..
Remove all your lettuce leaves right way ! yes you could still eat them but might not taste the best.
You could leave one plant to grow and get seeds at the end but remove the rest of the plants and replace with your summer plants .

Same thing happened to my cilantro. It got hit pretty quick here in zone 7b and has maintained that same heat. I was able to harvest once before it bolted. I just removed the seeds yesterday since it had dried completely. I'll try again in the fall. Thanks for all the help!

You need shade cloth

Lettuce does much better in a shaded spot?
@Greentgarden

Yes absolutely.. These are back of my greenhouse. They don't have much sun and they grow well

So if we remove the leaves, it’ll reproduce seedlings. Will they reseed the bed themselves or do we have to harvest and reseed by hand? Thank you!🙏🏾
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 5 дней назад
So you will need to harvest the seeds by hand and either you could replant right away or you could save those seeds for next season... Thank you ... happy gardening 🌱

My lettuce did horrible. All of them bolted. I'm on Long Island, too, and the heat has been off the charts. I'll try again in late summer/ early fall. Thanks.

GreenT I hope you can help me with a question about brassicas. Last year my brassicas grew 2 ft tall and produced 0 vegetables. This year, I got one sprig of broccoli on my plants and my cauliflower looked deformed for the lack of a better description. Last year they were planted in a raised bed that is 15 in that I filled with Leaf compost last year. This year I grew my brassicas in pots with espoma boitone at planting and edpoma potting mix. I fertilized with Neptune's veggie Liquid Fertilizer. I even used a moisture meter to determine when to water . Several of the brassicas were in self-watering pots

Sorry to hear , These plants are all spring plants and early fall you could grow them to.. Make sure they get enough sunlight about 6 hours a day.. Make sure the plant has enough space. The container should be at least 5 to 10 gallons ....

I have a bunch of bolted lettuce and only one head of lettuce. This is while growing here in North East Florida during the fall cycle. It will get a lot hotter during the Spring cycle. Do you think shade cloth will help over these beds?
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 6 месяцев назад
Sorry to hear.. shaded clothes definitely help a lot... 30-50% shade cloth

Our purple lettuce is 2feet high. If i harvest all leaves, is this plant finished fir this year? If i cut off the whole stalk, will more lettuce grow?
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden Год назад
Yes that plant is done , So once the lettuce plant is bolted you basically have to pull them out and replace them for next season. Sorry.. 🙏🏾🌱 You could leave one plant to grow and you could get seeds from it

Okay so confused here do you just let the seeds fall down to the ground for regrowth? Do I pull my bolted lettuce after the seeds have dropped?
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 2 месяца назад
So when the seeds pods are dry and ready to harvest a seed, remove them and save them inside for next season... Lettuce plants are best growing in Spring or fall time.. If the plant is bolting and you do not want seeds , just remove the whole plant and plant a different plant there...

So when can I plant romaine? I have a shaded area that I was thinking about doing a cheat jump start (buying some romaine and planting the bottom)… but I dont want it to just bolt 😮😮
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden Год назад
So definitely the shaded area is good , but if it's in the high 70s to 80, the humidity will be too much .. If the weather drops down in the lower 70s with a shaded area, you should be fine 🙏🏾🌱

When do u get the seeds after is has a flower
@Greentgarden
@Greentgarden 3 месяца назад
Yes, after the plant starts to grow flowers then later on you will see a light gray pappuses emerge from lettuce head The seats are inside and normally will be fully developed..it does take some time .
