I have seen many posts on LinkedIn that makes me questions the person's priorities in life. For example, I saw someone post how they shouted at their baby and how it broke their heart to do that as a parent, but the positive note is that they LEARNED to be more patient in life. Why does everything have to be a lesson? Why does something personal happen in someone's life and the first thing they think is "Oh I need to post this on Linkedin and show my 500 connections I'm always learning"? Stop the fake act. Wasn't this website meant to be about job hunting? Not fake Facebook-Esque posts?

Yeah, I read a post written by someone interning at the same organization I was, where they talk about how they were “unaware” of the very issue our organization works to fix before working there, and how it was “so intimidating” to have to actually, yknow, share ideas with and talk to “highly intellectual” coworkers, and the post had this weird “wow, now I understand why organizations like ours actually exist and I’m determined to join them in their fight, and I’m super intimidated by everyone because I feel they’re smarter/more experienced/older than me, but I learned that I can’t just run away from intimidating situations so now I face them head on and wow, I’ve grown so much, wow I’m so proud of myself” overall message and I’m like… who are you writing this for? And do you think this makes you look good?

Fully agree with 1st point and toxicity. Your 2nd point is perfectly defined. I've seen so much selfworth or selfimportance or advertisements or greenwashing that it shines its fakeness as bright as FB and Instagram. I don't think I've actually seen LinkedIn be anything close to a professional platform. It presents more as a selfdefeating platform.

Great video. I deleted my LinkedIn I found it useless. Especially the connection suggestions, who are all people who do exactly what I do. Doesn't compliment my network at all. It was also spammy. Always getting messages from recruiters or people asking me if I want sell my company etc. Also didn't like being added every time I met someone somewhere. I stick to the old school organic way of making and managing relationships. I'm sure it's useful for some people but not for many. But there's definitely no absolute need to use it.

When you share your resume with the whole world basically you are letting spammers, hackers, and strangers know where you went to school, where you worked and still work and everything in the fullest detail. No thanks. I do have a Linkedln account but there is no resume. Becareful people. There are people that sell other's resumes and make profit. Do not put your resume in public. Of course it's not going to give you the results you expect if you expect to get them by doing nothing. No matter if it's online or in person, practically no one will ever give you a job offer or a helping hand if you just sit there like a charity case. I've messaged people from different states who have positions that I aspire to have. I genuinely express my real admiration for them and I often get messages back offering advice for my career development. I agree there are problems with people being fake. Isn't the same true of life? Again, no matter if it's on LinkedIn or in person, those who have real value and are genuine will be rewarded. Those who bring nothing to the table and try to leech off of others will struggle.

While recruiters have reached out to me because I am a Senior Software Engineer, I'd argue that most of them waste your time. They want you to have 15+ min. calls with them to only find out that its not a good fit. I have only had a few of those calls where it was a good fit. However, the recruiter has no authority and has to still talk to the hiring manager, and I have never had a hiring manager call me for an interview. Linkedin is a waste of time period. I actually disagree. If I look at my different careers moves, they all originated from a recruiter personal message on LinkedIn. You have to learn how to build and optimize your profile to attract recruiters to you, for example by using the appopriate keywords for job descriptions, skills, education etc ... More and more recruiters are actually sourcing using LinkedIn. Also, the application process is simplified since you can apply directly with your profile. However, I agree that the social media part and news feed can be quite toxic, but once you know it, just ignore it, and focus on your profile and job search
@sensualhealing1912
@sensualhealing1912 3 года назад
Lucky you but It's' not fair that you have to promote yourself this way to get/keep a job. I am a private person and my last employer insisted I create profile so that i could promote the company (not initially part of the job role) - this was at the same time I quit other social media avenues and felt like a complete contradiction. I got rid of the weak friend connections on Facebook only to have to create a new network which seemed even more fake under the guise of 'being connected'. It makes me so uncomfortable doing my job is not enough now - not everyone is the same, but we are being indoctrinated - even your statement says 'you have to learn to build..etc' I shouldn't have to. The only thing I should have to learn is the job itself. I think leave Linkdin to those in marketing..leave the rest of us alone.

I'm quite a fan of your content, but I must contend this video to a certain extent. I've been on LinkedIn (LI) for a while, posted rarely, commented rarely, updated rarely. There's little on my profile apart from qualifications and experience, but I was recruited for my current role by a recruiter searching LI. If you are planning on being highly active on LI and treating it as social media in the way your video suggests, then I agree largely with your points; but if you use LI passively, as I do, it can be a good source of opportunities that you would otherwise miss. So, like most things in life - whether it is good or bad depends on how you approach it. That's my fourpenn'th, for what it's worth. :-)

I agree the platform is toxic, people who use it as a social media app are a bit strange... However You can get though to quite a few recruiters using the platform if you get your profiles keywords correct. Also, if you preform well on LinkedIn skill assessments you get considered first for some roles if the recruiter recognizes them for the role. Overall, the platform isn't the best however if you know how to play the system, you can get some advantages out of it

This can make my life hell at work. I mean, People talk alot behind your back and you giving them a reason to smear your image is just stupid.. this is why most people don't post at LinkedIn at all... for the fact that either they will look fake or stupid.. At the same time, we can keep LinkedIn to send our resume to people in our domain... if I have 2000 people, I can easily have 200 of them read my resume... which is alot..

What do you think about LinkedIn being used as a tool to find recruiters at companies you want to work at or people in the jobs you want to work at and messaging them to eventually convert it into a coffee chat.

Many of the things mentioned are true. But I wouldn't go so far as to say that you should not use it at all.

In Germany if you are Eastern European, you need a sponsor to make a career past junior level. Otherwise you get screened out by racists. It is not open racism, it comes as gaslighting and mobbing.

You must be out of your mind. Who cares about Germany. A shite country with low wages.

Is it okay to post on Linkedin about interesting facts that you learn? No personal development, no personal stories and cringe stuff Just small articles of v interesting stuff I find. Like a new development in distributed networks etc. It's just a way to solidify what I already know by reproducing it

Job platforms became useless in general. All the fake "Junior Web Developer" jobs created by recruiters.

Wonder if you still read comments. LinkedIn is full of people with average talent. People who major talent waste their time on it.
