Why Long Island Iced Tea is so delicious and dangerous
It has a reputation as a drink for someone who wants to get drunk fast.
LIIT invented by Robert Rosebud Butt is made of high-proof spirits mixed with a sour mix and coke. It is supposed to hide the taste of the alcohol.
Usually, cheap bottom shelf ingredients are used
But if you make it properly with high-end liquor and fresh juice, a Long Island Iced Tea is still a strong drink, but it will give you a different drinking experience.

Shaker
Cointreau 1/2 oz | 15 ml
Aged Rum 1/2 oz | 15 ml
vodka 1/2 oz | 15 ml
Gin 1/2 oz | 15 ml
Reposado Tequila 1/2 oz | 15 ml
Simple syrup 1/2 oz | 15 ml
Lemon Juice 3/4 oz | 20 ml
Shake

Recall being schooled about that. No tea at all in a Long Island Tea? Being passionate about tea, fresh brewed tea, l began to think. Tomato juice with vodka is a Bloody Mary. I made a cocktail with 3 ounces of old tom gin two ounces of Jack Daniel's one ounce of bacardi gold rum half an ounce of lemon juice dash of simple syrup and serve on the rocks in rocks glass with a sprig of mint as garnish dry shake is optional

Yeah. I fucking love Long Island Iced Tea. I didn't really realize the first few times I drank it that it was meant to "get drunk fast." It was just a sweet drink that masked the flavor of alcohol to me.

Gonna be honest, I live directly across the street from a chain bar with 5 dollar LITs and the bartender is super sweet, if I'm feeling an easy date night with my boyfriend nothing else hits quite as good. I'll knock them back gladly, I know what they're about and I'm perfectly okay with it lol. I would definitely be curious to try one made with premium spirits before, I feel like it almost defeats the purpose but could still be tasty in its own right

I honestly make these because I like the taste. The way I make it it doesn't have any more alcohol than most other cocktails (2oz spirits, .5oz triple sec), I just like it because it's a more interesting version of like, rum and coke

@_________ yeah it's not a thing. What's more likely is that people are simply over drinking. If you're drinking "responsibly" you're probably having one or two tops. In which case, who is going to go from vodka to whiskey to tequila on their first and last 3 drinks for instance? You'd typically have the same drink or a complimentary drink with a meal over the course of hours.

I was so drunk I don't remember a single thing that happened. All I remember is that I lost my ring, borrowed a cigarette from the bouncer, knocked his drink over, bought drinks for everyone at the bar, stumbled to the truck, wrecked, and somehow made it home. Other than that, I don't remember anything I said or did.

When this drink first hit the bars I was waiting tables, had a four top of Naval officers order these. I cut them off after 2, but they waylaid another server to bring another round. This was lunch, and they were plastered. I had to load them in my car and drive them back to the base.

I remember that when I was in college the place we liked to go did a discount cocktail hour where any cocktail on the menu was just £2 and this was the one we would always pick because it had a total of 4shots in it. Bear in mind this was when the UK standard shot size was 35ml. It's now 25ml but it used to be around 50ml when we measured in drahms. Point being we were young and stupid and therefore of course we got way too drunk. I'm now tea total but I like a good virgin cocktail.

The long island is definitely my favorite and go to cocktail. I make it at home and it always comes out great. I can usually pack a fee away before it gets late and I need to head to bed, and I'm fortunate enough to never get hang overs either. The recipe I use is .5 oz vodka .5 oz rum (white) .05 oz gin (maybe a lil less depending on the brand) .05 oz tequila .05 oz triple sec 1oz sour mix (or .05 oz simple syrup and .05 oz lemon juice) Shake with ice, strain over ice in a glass and top with coke
