I wish the MVP voting was just consistent. One year it’s best player on best team, next year it’s most “valuable” to their team, but it’s ALWAYS about storyline. If the media wants one player to win it they will.

He's hated by the media but loved by the fans. Statmuse just did a poll on X asking who has your vote for MVP? It was Luka by a mile. The next closest player was Jokic with 1/3 as many as Luka. The MVP shouldn't be decided by the media. It should be decided by the players, coaches, and fans. Like 50% players, 25% coaches, and 25% fans in that order.

Just like you said, Focus. This is the only reason why sometimes it looks like Luka is not playing D. And the main reason to loose focus is that he is simply tired because he plays TO much. With all the injuries and below average roster, he is carrying such a huge burden that he simply can't stay focused on both sides. Every time I play pickup with my buddies, if I play with bad players, its insane how much energy I have to spend on defense, rebounds etc... and when I should do something on offense, I am just to focused on where to run next to help on D. If I am in a good team, its just way less tiring... And if this happens to me as a total amateur, imagine what happens to a top 3 NBA player, where every night the whole opp defense is focused on him, with a bad/injured roster, that has to play 40+ minutes, back to back, fly across the country, just to stay in the playoff run... Media should respect way more what he is doing.

Like Perkins doesn't even vote on the season they have just played, he takes in the whole package of previous seasons and legacy, like what the fuck? In any case, coaches and players sound like a much better option.

You made some really good points about Luka's strengths and weaknesses, but I think it's undeniable to anyone that has watched him the last few seasons that he's taken a big step forward this season. Honestly, even his attitude on-court and towards the refs has been better than in previous seasons, but I agree is still something he needs to work on. On the point of players and coaches voting for MVP, I get where you're coming from but I think there are some problems. This actually used to be how the MVP was determined, but it usually led to players just picking the best player on the best team. Sure, media voting has its flaws, but I think for the most part, the right player usually wins. One idea I've seen floated around that I think is interesting would be adding a Most Outstanding Player award like the NFL has, which may let the MVP act as its meant to, as a true representation of the player that has most value to his team.

Luka should be the MVP this season and no one should hate him because of that, because whenever he complains, he is right, because the referees are corrupt and with their actions they harm the players and the teams. Players voted for Russel who averaged 19/23.5... Why? Cause they allways voted for Russel, as the best player on the best team... and Players didnt like Wilt and his play style. If players would vote today, Lebron would get the MVP, cause half of the League is signed to his agency. Whoever thinks players would vote for Luka has no idea what he is talking about. Luka needs a story to win MVP, thats all. Like rallying to the 4th (better 3d) place this season while having a huge winning streak and also winning the scoring title... then he will get the MVP.

Mavs just too in love with shooting the 3. Also Luka has the ball in his hands too much. Now he is amazing at getting great half court possessions. But sometimes it just hurts the team. There isn't any ball movement. This year hasn't been like previous years. Players have been hitting their shots. Past years it felt like when Luka went to the bench the rest of the team could looked like a team. Ball movement players cutting team going on fast breaks. The team would be on a roll. And when Luka would come back into the game everything slowed down again. This year has just been injury ridden. But that no excuse to play down to competition. They keep losing to teams they should lose against. They also play up to teams too. And for me games vs teams that aren't good or have injuries you should dominate. Most of those games Luka has played. An MVP candidate shouldn't be losing to teams like they have been.

The real problem is that Luka's skin color is too light for your average NBA fanboy. He gets 10 assists a game and they call him selfish. He gets 10 rebounds a game and they say he is lazy. He's a great player, but his childish behavior is annoying. It's sad that this kind of behavior is now considered "normal". The only reason it is acceptable is because the majority of fans relate to it. This is the world we live in now.

You can't argue he's a legit MVP, and top 5 player is nothing to scoff at. His scoring volume is barely above SGA, and per 100 it's negligible, but he's also a less efficient scorer. He's a better volume playmaker than SGA by a fait bit, but his TOV's are almost double. He's definitely the better rebounder, which is an issue OKC has, but otherwise SGA has a slight edge in box score stats. So, SGA is a more efficient scorer and still elite playmaker who is at the top when it comes to minimizing turnovers which is a shade below Luka as an offensive package, but whatever advantage Luka has on SGA is made up for defensively. I say all this because SGA isn't Jokic, who is going to deservedly win MVP, yet I'd argue SGA still has. Slight edge on Luka, and just about every advanced metric shows this. Even if you disagree, you are delusional if you don't recognize SGA is the closest superstar statistically to Luka and plays better defense. Then add in the fact that Dallas really isn't good enough to win a ring and their best player doesn't deserve an MVP. Oh, it's his team you say, put Jokic in the same spot and they are contending, because without him the Nuggets aren't that good. So yea, he's a great player who puts up ridiculous numbers because he has a ridiculous usage rate, and while yes, he has improved, he's just not the best player in the NBA. He's top-5, which is not slander considering who his company is, and it's time to stop pretending otherwise.

Lukas a longshot simply because there are 10 players as good as him offensively and almost all of them play defense and shoot better and have fewer turnovers. As a result if he ever wins mvp it will be based on team record or some historic feat like averaging a triple double. It will prevent him from falsely collecting the award the way embiid did, meaning he wont be hated if he wins one. If he doesnt i wont be surprised. Hes on the wrong team. Dirk should have at least 2 mvps.
