As a runway model i can answer the question a bit more opening the show : - the most challenging, you don’t follow anyone, set the tone for the pace of the show, but you can enjoy more and create a memorable moment -good exposure BUT usually it’s pretty basic looks so not that much repost -good prestige and boost for a new face, shows you’re trust worthy, good sign that you will be booked for other shows closing the show : -you have the coolest outfit (so more repost and you feel dope) -surprisingly amazing exposure knowing you did nothing different it just happens that nobody follows you -good prestige for a professional model, usually people closing are muses or celebrity, good sign that you will be booked by the same brand for campaigns or editorials so in my experience and with models i’ve met, booking agency maybe prefer opening, but models definitely prefer closing

As soon as the discussion of whether or not something is in fact art, it is. My source for this understanding is La Fontaine -R. Artists not only create art, but they find it and are inspired by it in the seemingly mundane.

Regarding the price of luxurious items: In economy theory these items are also referred to as Veblen goods. These goods have this paradox nature of increasing in price while the crisis is emerging or already happening. There is a study concerning Veblen goods, but as far as I remember it all comes down to "Luxury being a form of safe long-term investment". Honestly, I think it's a very weird phenomenon, because prices of luxury clothing behave the same way as price of gold. Luxury clothes = Gold. Insane

Costco also does something similar to the expensive coat concept. They put the expensive tv’s first so that the rest of the prices in the store seem more reasonable 😂 Costco doesn’t sell that many tv’s so it’s literally a strategy to make you spend more money.

But you can almost get any style to any occasion from acne if you count the archive. Your theory is probably very true since the head designers are so busy that they sometimes only have design a few looks themselves for the brand’s collection. As you said, they know how lucky they are to be here so it would make no sense that they would copy a small designer (and iffffff they ever had to, they might just use a few elements from a look as inspiration but rework it their own way)

This is a good video. I'm saying this as someone with resources that managed to be about 2k off of 'private' status on farfetch about two years back. I shop second hand mostly now. I'm grateful I can pay for some of these pieces that I want but I really am over paying insane amounts of money for luxury pieces. I'd rather give that to smaller brands doing something truly outstanding (jordan arthur smith for example who is reasonably priced for what you are getting). It was fun for a while but I ended up looking back and regretting sinking well over 10-15k in one year on clothing. They are good pieces, they will last for many years, and I love them. I probably could have waited. I do not regret buying that greg lauren x paul and shark shirt though. That shit was worth it.

The cost issue is why I'm trying to get to a point where I can make my own stuff for real. But I do need those Kozuka pants. As a lifelong freeballer, that loose freedom and soft fabric would be amazing and they aren't expensive. I could never pull of that color, though.

I could wear Acne all day every day if the quality was better. I wore Yohji Yamamoto almost exclusively for almost 10 years, but I've transitioned to mostly Jil Sander the last couple of years. Jil Sander's quality is really excellent, nothing I've bought has disappointed. I prefer simplicity and minimalism, and Yohji worked great for me despite often being quite complicated - they had a lot of deceptively clean looks. Then they went on an IMO messy trajectory with lots of details and embellishments, so I switched to Jil Sander. The transition was really smooth, because Jil Sander today feels like a higher quality, more streamlined Yohji-esque mood, maybe mostly because of the volume.

First thought came to mind when you mentioned the big brands "stealing" designers' look is Gucci and Dapper Dan. I'f you haven't looked into that please do.

However, if the brand is that big, shouldn’t it be also important to have a team in charge of making sure the designs don’t exist already? Which could protect the brands reputation and protect it legally also

If you'll forgive the ramblings of someone with basically 0 experience financially engaging with the fashionsphere, in the art communities I'm most familiar with, liking someone's work is generally complimentary to wanting to financially support them, and that has me wondering where that fits into the conversation around second-hand clothing. To be clear, I grew up on hand-me-downs, I have zero qualms or prejudices about wearing second-hand clothes, it is the obvious choice for the environment, and the obvious economical option, but it left me wondering what options there are for fans who could never afford a brand-new garment for supporting creators they love. Smaller, less expensive accessories are certainly one, but I also wondered about the potential of patreons or a patreon-like system (though it may fly in the face of the Luxury Strategy, I'm sure plenty of emerging brands could tap into them, though the first page of results for searching "fashion" on patreon seems to bring up mostly commentators, digital artists, and individuals sharing their personal projects and patterns). Is there an element where if a brand is established enough to have a significant amount of second-hand clothes in circulation, individual sales aren't affecting the bottom line? That money in the hands of resellers is going back into the ecosystem when they buy new garments from their preferred brands? If you can't afford a $150 T-Shirt, should you just be worrying about your own finances and not worrying about the designers'?

How does one decide/determine what an “artist” is? And where do you get the cashmere undershirts? That’d be a game changer.

What your describing in the beginning of your video is scarcity and it's necessary for something to be luxury. If it wasn't scarce, then it would be standard. However you are incorrect in thinking that luxury fashion prices wont go down (a lot). They are currently being used as SoV, like art or even housing. The problem with comes in when a recession really is felt. Fashion is not a need. If gact i would argue the trend will be to attack luxury fashion houses.

"Art is anything that an artist makes." That's kinda passing the buck, imo. Bc now it's like, okay, so what is an artist? Is anybody who calls themselves an artist an artist? NO. I'm no expert on this subject, but I have come to realize that an artist DOES have a body of work, does produce, does keep at it. You don't make one thing and say, look at me I'm an artist. There's more to it, but that's def a big part of it.

The vast majority of luxury brands and products are complete garbage, it’s mostly a social status signifier.
