Thailand is a wonderful country but only in moderation. You have a lot of temptation especially for single men. The bars, the parties, ladies, vacation mode. I had my share of that in my 20's. I don't judge people for it because I did it as well. But now in my 40's and married I goto Thailand to relax, the food and most people are very friendly. You have seen the differences Ben. As I have said numerous times. Thailand is for vacation and Malaysia is for living. Some will disagree and that is okay based on what one wants. I am not Muslim. I am Taoist and have never been discriminated against in Malaysia. I adhere to the social norms and I live and let live. Every country has pros and cons. It's up to you to decide what you can accept.

Hey fellow malaysian! 👋 Nicely put. We should try our best to continue to live alongside one another without too much of antagonism, provocations and off-placed judgments. May we continuosly live harmoniously as wonderful malaysians 👍 Anyhow, I just wanna ask, for knowledge purpose direct from the horse's mouth, does taoism have the concept of afterlife like muslims and christians do? From my limited understanding you probably don't, instead you believe in reincarnation, and idk if it was just fictions in movies etc but such reincarnations can take the forms of other beings too as in not necessarily one gets reincarnated as a human? I'm sorry if I have misunderstood or have been given the wrong idea all this while but tbh mostly I got this from keenly watching kungfu movies in the past 😂 And to others reading my question I want to stress again this is purely for learning intention, and never ever either to ridicule or pass judgment, or for imposing my own views onto others
@DamienYuen7718
@DamienYuen7718 2 месяца назад
@@jonmath4182 In short some Taoists believe one will be reborn into another life form based on the previous life. Some believe it will be human form and some believe that it could be another form of life like an animal or even a plant or tree. So life is eternal where the afterlife is another phase of life. There are different sects of what is Daoism or religious Daoism. Not all believe in the same. Some believe in reincarnation and others don't. We try to live a simple life, treat people kindly and stay within the middle line not swaying to either one extreme or the other. To be one with nature or the way. Death is seen as another phase of life instead of the end. So trying to achieve spiritual immortality through internal and external alchemy. In Buddhism they call it enlightenment. I could go on but I hope this helps a little. I am a convert so I could be wrong on some things and some will disagree on some points but this is my basic understanding. I just try to keep learning and enjoying. 🙂

Okay, Ben. Since you asked, Islam is a religion that essentially protects life. It protects your health, your mind, your spirit, your family (wife, kids, parents etc.). It also protects your money and society. Whatever that God has decreed, it is always for the good of the people. Since Earth is God's creation and we live on it, we need to thank God and show our appreciation for Him in the form of prayers, remembrance of Him and other forms of worship. We are also supposed to donate a certain part of our money to charity in the form of Zakat and donations to help the poor, sick and unprivileged. Shariah is basically Islamic principles in the form of law. We have Shariah ingrained in our minds so we don't do anything that goes against what God has deemed evil like drinking alcohol, doing drugs, oppressing people, stealing their property and murder. This is why you don't see practising Muslims committing all these acts of evil, since we know that we will be accountable for all our actions in front of God. There are other things to write about, but you can also do your own research on them. I'm sure others will also be happy to answer your questions on Islam.

At 20:00 Ben, as you ask, I'd suggest you take a serious look into the running to distraction thought. Weed, women, party life, drinking are all huge distractions. A good friend and former employer who wrote 14 books on "Surviving the Comfort Zone" (Fatal distractions), and spent over 60 years helping people escape the escape into the comfort zone, summed up what you may be experiencing by saying: "After delving deep enough into distraction, many come to the realization of what they are distracting themselves from (running from pain rather than towards it). Other's who can't face the pain (typically trauma and false guilt), and who continue to delve deeper and deeper into distraction until it becomes an addiction, often end up in an endless loop of distraction, for the alcoholic it becomes drinking to forget the guilt of drinking, to forget the guilt of drinking..." Now that in America the distraction has become Fentanyl, a short loop to the end for many I see the fatal loop of distraction more clearly than ever, and now that you point it out Ben, perhaps Malaysia, a place with lessor fatal distractions is the place to escape the distraction loop, heal and become a real self free from distraction away from pain and guilt. That's what Malaysia and Japan were for me, and which I am very grateful for, and why both places hold a special place in my heart. Thanks Ben for bringing things to light, and here's to a life free of negative distractions! BTW, I just found the intro to on of my late friend's books about the 'Comfort Zone' that may be of interest to those considering "Malaysia or Thailand?" 'Surviving the Comfort Zone' - Forward: "Once you escape into the "zone," you may become lost there forever. What is the "zone"? It is a state of mind, body, and soul that we all run to when we find ourselves unable to deal properly with the pressures of the world. The doorway into the "zone" is a false need for comfort: when fulfilled, it causes more hunger. In moments of confusion, anger, and fear, everyone experiences this primal need to "escape." The comfort we seek seems like an oasis in the desert, the answer to our anguish. But by escaping into a comfort zone, we actually make ourselves vulnerable to all kinds of misery, suffering, and addiction. Almost everyone is addicted to something. To the alcoholic its liquor; to the drug addict its some mind-altering substance; to the 'people-pleaser' it may simply be a kind word or a pat on the back. Even such simple acts as knitting, stamp collecting, or goal-forming can serve essentially the same purpose as a drink to the alcoholic. The first step in breaking free lies in becoming aware of how our "escape routes" have transformed into prison chains which dominate our lives. Only then will we be in a position to choose between our old enslavements and a new opportunity for freedom."
@benfishermin
@benfishermin 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the comment, this is good stuff. I do think there is some value in those distractions, pleasures, etc. but it can also be a problem. I’ve always been seeking the right balance with everything. I think removing all of those things from life completely is a bit much, but also the only option for some. It does feel like I’ve struck a nice balance for myself by spending 90% of my time in Malaysia, and allowing myself the other 10% to go enjoy the distractions. Even if it becomes a loop of leaving Malaysia to have fun once a month, I believe this may work quite well for me! It’s also much easier for me to say all of this given that I don’t have much money. In the past when I’ve had large amount of money it definitely requires far more restraint. Being allergic to alcohol is also a bit of a blessing.
@ashu9493

Hi Ben, glad to see you again in Malaysia.. Something extra about Malaysia is the diversity.. Malaysia has a rich culture and heritages. It's a melting pot of eastern and western food, cuisines and cultures. Islam means peace, it's the way of life so that's why Malaysia has to be a decent, peaceful and a harmony place for all multiracial people to settle down here(even though Islam is an official religion the non Muslims have freedom of choice how to live with a decent way.. There's no compulsion in Islam).. It's risky to talk about Islam in the open (here in the comments), chances it will get heated 😁. Basically there's Islam and there's Muslim(the people) which is a mixed bag, like anything else. I have travelled extensively in SEAsia via motorcycle road trips, from villages to big cities, from Myanmar to Laos. One thing is prevalent, poverty and alcoholism... something you don't find very much in Muslim areas in Malaysia (I'm not saying there's aren't other problems here), but it's one less problem.

Ben, maybe you could talk about ways to remain in Malaysia as dong a visa run frequently always runs the risk of being rejected. Of course, there is the MM2H immigration scheme but you need some deposit and also you must buy property within 12 months. Sarawak and Sabah have launched their own MM2H scheme but still need some deposit, I believe Sarawak no need to buy property. Digital Nomad I believe you need to be employed by someone outside Malaysia. But it would be good to learn about any other options for long term residence.

I think the desire to keep moving around stems from either having perpetual curiosity for the "new" or you're still searching for the right place to be your base for the long term (while still doing occasional travel)....because I think that's an inherent thing we do, find a place to be our home. Where that place is ultimately depends on where you are in life and what your priorities are. If you're a single man (or woman) who is just dating, then mixing in a social setting in places like Thailand or the Philippines might be your thing. If you've settled into a healthy long term commitment and getting out to socialize/mingle no longer interests you, then a place like Malaysia could be a more cohesive fit. No place is wrong per se, its finding what's the right fit for you.

I've lived years in Bangkok off and on. I've worked in KL, Malaysia and lived there for 2 years, I also lived in Vietnam. It really depends on where you live and what you want. You need to see the smaller cities in Thailand. I'm a fitness guy so in bed by 10 and up at 5:30 am-6 am. I say it this way Thailand is Heaven or Hell, if you are weak it will eat you alive. Honestly that's only Bangkok, Pattaya, and the Islands. Malaysia has a more stable government situation. Vietnam was also great. There really needs to be a SWOT analysis of what you want out of each place. In Thailand Hua Hin was my happy place, slow and easy very little nonsense. In Vietnam it was Nha Trang. I've not found anywhere in Malaysia that is as nice as those two options.

But in the same times, you want to fullfill your lust and temptation on...lets get it straight to the point... Sex, women, booze party-life, weeds... Of course you can find here in Malaysia, bcoz evil is everywhere man...but not like in Bangkok, Pattaya. Its so common over there. If you really want a peaceful life, get away from the place that full of party-life. Go get close to the positive and clean way of life.

Sorry that you got roasted. It's all semantics 😁. But it is stated in the article 3 constitution of Malaysia that the official religion is islam, and other faiths are free to practice. But some don't like the sound 'malaysia is a Muslim country' as only limited shariah are enforced here.

I'm a digital nomad of 5 years. It's nothing new and there's nothing mysterious about it. My grandparents were the digital nomad of their age, simply put: those with wanderlust then would become missionaries. They were even clever enough to get others to foot the bill. Churches have a special collection to fund a "mission family" here and there. My dad kinda resented his parents, he felt entitled to live in the United States. He lived very stable, only moving 3 times in his later adult life all in the same state. I guess I got the wanderlust genes. I don't feel any need to explain it, so it was funny to me that you mentioned the topic. Prior to just now, it never occured to me I should think it through and justify it in any way. For the portion of us born this way, it would have been HELL ON EARTH to live in the era of lets say 1940 - 2015. To have a good paying quality job with opportunities for advancement, you needed to stay in a office in the same place and work for decades in each role (to not look flaky on your resume). Now that's no longer the case, our liberation day came. For me it was 2013, the first job I took with no office on offer.

Hi ben, _selamat kembali_ welcome back to malaysia, and _terima kasih_ for putting up this video and opening up on your own choice and reasoning. Just to touch a bit on your question without the intention of imposing my own belief onto you, after all you did ask anyway, the core reason is Islamic faith stresses on the basic facts that we are merely creations of God, that God is All Powerful, that we are ordered by God Almighty to obey his rules, that this world is nothing but fleeting, that there is permanent life after death (after the day of judgement), and that there is heaven in the afterlife for people obedient to God on this temporary world just as there is hell for disobedient lot. So, firstly, God-fearing muslims would not want to incur the wrath of God by drinking liquor, gambling, etc which have been specifically prohibited by God because doing so would throw a person into hellfire for eternity or for a time that would feel like eternity. Secondly, faithful muslims believe that this world is nothing but a huge test by God, be it in the forms of those distractions or temptations, or even in the forms of successes, victories, possessions, good health etc, and be as good and as fun those distractions appear to be, there will be fun a gazillion time better in heaven. One of the reasons God ordered muslims to do the 5 compulsory daily prayers is to bring back the persons to constantly remember that God is always here, that God is always watching, that this life is temporary, and that God has promised that being good will only be rewarded with much much better, for eternity. Therefore muslims have no need for those distractions now. This concept would then give rise to a different lifestyle than say, a faith that believes in the concept of reincarnation. Probably there are different types of reincarnation concepts out there, idk, but if we consider only a straightforward type of reincarnation ie. a person dies then gets reincarnated as a different person with different traits, then probably it's okay for them to have any sort of fun, probably as long as it doesn't involve murder, rape, robbery, etc, because later they will still get reincarnated and have another chance at everything all over again. Perhaps. I only have limited knowledge about the reincarnation concept, I apologise if I have had it wrong. Peace! ✌️
