Why Mel will trick Stannis into burning Shireen ... Winds of Winter Theories 

Mel tricking Stannis into burning Shireen makes so much more sense than Stannis giving his consent.

It’s interesting that you mentioned Shireen’s death as “breaking” Stannis. It immediately called to mind how Donal Noye called Stannis iron, hard but brittle. Iron Stannis breaks/shatters in the end.

I like the glamour theory. And Stannis has even said even if I die, she must sit the throne. Maybe Asha,Kings Blood? Through Balon?

I feel that if Stannis is to burn Shireen, it has to be his choice. If he's tricked, doesn't it take some of the bite from his slow descent towards becoming a new Nights King? Maybe it could work, but I'm not fully on board. 🤔

It's an interesting idea, though I envisioned it very differently when the premise of the video was given. After fully watching the video I don't think that what you propose makes much narrative sense as a) what GRRM's interview suggests is Stannises decision to burn Shereen, and burning her by accident isn't a decision of his. b) It's likely that Stannis will learn about Mans being alive quite soon in the books. I can't imagine him trusting Melisandre enough to miss such a gigantic substitution after he learns of her first deception. I actually think that he can still be tricked, but the trickery will involve result of the ritual instead of the identity of the sacrifice. If we make it so that Stannis is the one to burn Shereen, I can only see it as some kind of attempt to forge the true Lightbringer/become a true Azor Ahai based on parallels to the death of Nisa Nisa. I can imagine that the only thing that can bring Stannis to sufficient despair for this sacrifice will be him somehow getting a reason to doubt his capability to be Azor Ahai. I am not quite sure what exactly can show him that he isn't that magical, but it most likely will have to do with his encounter with the Others. (I actually don't remember if the sword he wields is of Valyrian steel, but if it isn't, you can imagine the effect of Stannis stabbing a wight or an Other with his "Lightbringer", and it doing absolutely nothing or shattering to pieces.) All in all, I don't think Stannis must be the one to burn Shereen, but if she is to be burned, I stand by the thought that he must choose it consciously. It then also turns neatly into a ritual, that can work, but not with the result Stannis expected. I won't say it will necessarily bring John back, but it will likely do something not envisioned by either Stannis or Melisandre.

yea but how does that play out? we know that stannis understands that it has to be blood of the king, so clearly he would need to know who is going to be burned to death. also knowing that he intends for shireen to be his heir if he dies, he would have to make sure that shireen is safe at all times. so i did a little bit of family tree digging and it turns out, stannis wife selyse if from house florent. the florents are said to have the blood of the GARDENER KINGS mixed in their blood. it's a far fetched claim to king's blood, but to the devout believers of the red god, this is all that melissandre needs to know. what if instead of shireen, stannis is persuaded to sacrifice his own wife selyse? edit: sacrificing selyse is literally just like the nissa nissa sacrifice. i think this could be it guys. and then after the sacrifice, stannis finds that the supposed magic doesn't work, gets depressed, feels extreme guilt and shame, and is not helpful for when the long night comes. this is probably the end for stannis, finally understanding that he is not and can never be azor ahai reborn again.

Melisandre does seem to care the Davos only has one son left. That said, this theory is very plausible.

It's exactly the kind of thing Mel would do. If Stannis did it he would not be able to live with himself, that much is for sure.

ATM it doesn't make Sense, Shireen is at the Wall, same as Mel. Stannis is snowed in, somewhere near Winterfell. And if I remember it correct he doesn't have any Ravens left to ask for Help from the Wall at all.
