for a lot of men, their girlfriend or wife is the only person they can talk to about their feelings or other intimate/personal things that would be weird to discuss with other males. This might be a reason why men feel numb and take a lot longer to recover due to the lack of social or emotional support.

Everyone is talking about how they miss their exes yet here I am, happier than I ever was with my ex. We were together for almost a year and a half until she cheated on me and left me for the dude she cheated with. I was devastated for about a month or two, after which I've been happier than ever. Then half a year later she came running back to me, apologizing and begging me to take her back. I just laughed at it and kindly told her no. I guess it's just my mentality, that if people leave your life, it's for a good reason. They served their purpose, and something way better is underway. And that way of thinking worked perfectly because now, almost 2 years after the breakup, I met an amazing girl that I've always dreamed of. So the moral of this story is your future is determined by the way you react to present.

My high school sweet heart reached out to me after 11 years and told me he still hasn’t gotten over me . I got over him in 4 months because boy did he mistreat me and make me cry all the time . I feel bad for him but I’m happy I was able to get over someone who mistreated me .

As a man, nothing feels the same after. You just try and not talk about it to anyone, you wallow in isolation and every little thing seems to annoy and irritate you. The company you usually keep NEVER helps, you can’t even look at her pictures or social media accounts, trying desperately to forget about her and the pain you feel and the only thing that PARTIALLY heals the emotional scarring is time. That’s it. A new relationship definitely helps but you’re always feeling afraid of a break up during such times, leaving you potentially in an even WORSE state than before! From what I’ve seen, it can take women a mere few months to get over a break up and find someone else. For a guy? It can literally take YEARS to recover.

This is only true if a guy thinks she was his "one", if he does he'll never get over her. If or when he doesn't think so he'll get over her. It's all about how the individual thinks about the relationship after it ends that helps them get over it. If you focus on how they weren't good for you the faster you get over it. No one ever does that, everyone is too busy thinking about what they've lost and not what they've gained.

I can understand why some men experience emotional pain only way after, where as women suffer a lot only right after the breakup. Men deal initially well with the breakup and ignore their now-ex's feelings. But after awhile they "wake up" and regret the breakup but only way way after, meanwhile the woman had enough time for her to recover and convince herself he just don't love her and was such a douchebag to her or even find an amazing man. It's probably why some suffer for much longer after because they realize they should have shown more consideration towards her and blame themselves because they were not brave enough to just say "I love you I am truly sorry" when the woman needed them to say it(remember women are devastated at the beginning so are more willing to accept apologies at the beginning). But now it's too late and the woman actually moved on and forgot about him, while the man is left with a feeling of insatisfaction and regret. It is just my opinion based on experience.

It is still hitting me hard... I am not a very social person and when I met my ex it was the best thing that had ever happened to me... I messed things up and we broke up early 2016... Stop living in guilt. Forgive yourself and the other person, and accept that if it had been meant to be it wouldn't have ended. Cry it out. Surround yourself with people that appreciate you. Do things that bring meaning to your life. When you build yourself back up, the right person will walk right in, you just have to be ready for them.

Breakups are good it makes you a much better and stronger person than before. You got to remember the worst things that happened when you were in the relationship to get over it.

It's been 11 months now, end of Jan 2016. I still love her, still think of her every day. I still have so much of her stuff, which doesn't help because her memory still lingers. I went through it to sort it out the other day, her smell and perfume hit me like a tonne of bricks. At first I was fine, but after uncovering more and more of our past it was just too much and I had to stop. I'd smell some of her clothes just for the comfort, even though it brought pain. I miss her so much. I expect another year before I stop thinking about her so often. I have noone to talk to about it. My parents expect me to be over her, my friends expect me to be over her. Noone knows besides me that I still love her dearly. If I say anything I'll be judged and ridiculed. This is a tough day for us men.

I got thru it by getting laid alot.....however after almost 10 years if she called me tonight id be right there everybody has a love of thier life ...man or woman and even after u move on and get married and fall in love again you will still a certian form of bonding that you had with the one that stole your heart ...and you never get over it.....and it sucks because it prevents you for complete devotion to your new love and yourself....but its part of life and we accept it and live with it tucked away and hidden ...

I was only with her for a month and a half although I had known her for a bit longer. When we started it felt like the best thing that ever happened to me. We would see each other every single day, and take turns making each other food or going out on dates. Every day I got to wake up and the one thing that I wanted to see and to hold was always right in front of me. I remember once before we dated but when we both could tell we were into each other. We went on a walk during the fall before the last leaves had fallen from the trees and we laid down next to each other just talking. I wish I never left that moment. Before she decided to break up with me she told me what she wanted to do for me that Christmas. She wanted to take me up north where I was from so I could show her all of my favorite places that I wanted to share with her. Only a few days later, she ended it. I don't remember the reason. I was so shocked. The only thing I could say is that I understood and that I wanted her to be happy and that if she was happier without me then so be it. The last thing I remember is when she hugged me and I held her tight. I tucked my head over her shoulder and smelled her hair one last time as every part of my soul screamed "Whyyyy!" inside of me. The most confusing part is that when I decided I wanted to get it over with and leave SHE was the one who wouldn't let go. A year later, I still can't stop thinking about all of the memories, and the things I possibly could have done better. I wish it was my fault. At least that way I would know what to improve on. But it wasn't in my control. I gave it everything I had but it didn't matter. It has affected me in ways I hate to admit. Yet, that month and a half was the best time of my life and I wouldn't have changed a thing.

im 56 and i still havent found a way to get over my very first breakup. i find distractions that help me forget for awhile. then a song comes on. or a movie. or a smell. or worse, a fukking DREAM. she was my everything, life itself felt like i was on the right track then completely unexpectedly it derailed. i often wonder how completely different my life would have been if we'd stayed together. that one single event ruined me.

Break up was never easy for me because I invested too much from my relationship. I thought I couldn't recover from it but I was wrong, after being depress for months I found myself again and completely healed. But when I already move on from my past, there again my ex knocking at my door asking for one chance. So I guess guys have difficulty in moving on because it's late for them to realize how important a person is in their life.

I fell in love for the first time over the summer - first time I had a real connection with someone. We talked about our future, marriage, and kids. It was like a fairytale. For my birthday / our anniversary, he wrote me four handwritten letters. One which I couldn’t open for a year. They expressed his love and desire to be with me forever. He said I was a part of him. One week later, something happened but he was no longer “ready” anymore. He said he still loved me and the time wasn’t write. Another week later and I was blocked from everything... adjusting back to a life without a person you thought would be there forever is terrible thing to feel. And the memories that stay with you but know you can’t have back are even worse. I eventually read the letter I wasn’t supposed to in efforts to move on, even though a part of me knew not to. Found out he was going to propose if we had still been together. It was the most painful thing to ever feel. I understand why they call it heart break. Everyday gets a little easier though. If it felt so right with the wrong person, it’ll feel even better with the right person.

Somethings Are Born Out Of Pain. You May Not See It, But In The Process Of Being Hurt And Crushed, You Give Birth To A Miracle. Any Season Of Loneliness May Cause Desperation But Once This Process Is Over, You Will Be Worth Pure Gold Because You Went Through The Fire Just To Burn Off What You Don't Need.
