If he buys something from one wife, he must buy the same thing for the other, otherwise he will have committed a sin.

In islam you can married until 4. "Can" is not obligation. One wife and kids is already hard for average man, if you have more then 1 wife it's mean more kids and parents in law the husband must taken care.

Polygamy explained: 1. Polygamy IS NOT Islamic invention. It had existed long before Islam came to Arabian land. In fact, polygamy had been practiced all over the world, in many different cultures. 2. Before Islam came, polygamy had no rules. Men could have unlimited amount of wives if they could, and those wives were treated like properties, to the point where women could be inherited to the sons of their husband. Islam came and made a strict restriction, from unlimited to 4, and women no longer should be treated like properties. 3. Even though men could have 4 wives, the same verse in the Qur’an that talks about polygamy actually endorses monogamy more, if we read the verse in its entirety, because the later part of the verse states “if you are worried (you cannot be fair), just marry one”. 4. The verse that contains the topic of polygamy actually emphasizes NOT ON the polygamy itself, but on the importance of FAIRNESS in marriage, and on the importance of choosing the better alternatives to control yourself, or to avoid illicit sexual activities. If marrying 4 wives was the better alternative for your situation, you may do it, but if monogamy is the better one, then do monogamy. 5. Even the prophet practiced monogamy first, before his prophethood. He married Khadija until she died, and the prophet never married anyone else during his life with Khadija (about 15 years or so). So, if a muslim prefers monogamy, sure they can. 6. So, why did the prophet marry multiple wives? Aside from cultural and political situations at that time, it could also be to show people at that time the examples of how to run a polygamous family if necessary. 7. The main focus of either polygamy or monogamy in Islam is not on the number of wives there should be, but on how good the marriage is. A good marriage in Islam is the one that is dedicated to improve the quality of everyone in the family in God’s ways, and to raise a better next generations of people that would continue building the society for the better in the future. If the marriage failed to do so, not even monogamy is accepted, let alone polygamy. As the result, if polygamy was done only to satisfy the men’s ego or desire, it is a huge indication that such polygamy would only end up in disaster or in a worse state than before, so it must be avoided. 8. Then, why didn’t God just forbid polygamy and make monogamy the ultimate choice for marriage? Even though polygamy might have less significances (especially today), there are no doubt still a few benefits from it depending on the situations. Back in the prophet’s era, there were many tribal conflicts that resulted in the death of many men, resulting in more women left unattended. As the result, they would be left defenseless alone, unable to tend to themselves, and would either end up dying themselves or relying on unholy practices such as prostitution to make a living. Marrying multiple wives at that time would save them from such fates. If the same situation would happen today in some parts of the world, then maybe polygamy would be relevant too over there. So, it’s not always just about lust, but also survival. God is smart, He knows that NOT ALL SITUATIONS IN OUR LIVES ARE EQUAL OR IDEAL ALL THE TIME. 9. Polygamy IS NOT MANDATORY. It is AN OPTION. Again, polygamy is only allowed under specific circumstances. Therefore, for people who have no business doing polygamy, then just stick to monogamy. For people who are forced to do polygamy for a good reason, then the choice is also open for them to do that. It is the most non-hypocritical approach to human nature, as we don’t live in an ideal world. Our world is complex and requires different approaches in dealing with different situations in it. 10. Even when polygamy was allowed, there are certain criteria that must be followed to the bone. Being fair is of course the number one priority. The other one is making sure that nobody gets hurt. Break those rules, and say goodbye to the grace of your Lord, as you have transgress what is offered to you. God doesn’t like people who do transgression. I’ve actually talked with this with someone and one of the many fears is that the man will lose love, but what if that’s not true and what if it’s the contrary? What if it increases his love for his wife for helping him reduce the chance of adulterous thoughts? Women also need to realise that if a man wants another wife, it doesn’t mean she is lacking something and in fact you might be the most perfect woman in the world and that still wouldn’t stop a man from thinking about wanting a second wife.

It is an OPTION to solve societal problems , Not and obligation . Women have an option to accept or reject by adding this as a condition on marriage agreement “ prenuptial “ or simply get a divorce if that life style is not for her .

People often misunderstand the concept of polygamy in islam. It is permissible in Islam and only for those who are brave enough to take more responsibility. I personally believe anyone who is making in millions or has no trouble providing to different households should do it. I believe that the only objection women could have regarding this is if the man is not earning enough or if the man is unjust meaning. He gives $25,000 to one house and $25,001 to another or he spends to 2hrs at one house and spends the night at another. This is clear injustice and if that person is not punished in this world then surely on that day Allah will justly judge between all indeed he is the most wise and all knowing. Actually that is not a obligation Muslim men "could" ... yes in this matter because there are norms made by Allah if you couldn't respect those so stay with one. The truth men have more tendency to want another woman more than one sometimes How many marrid women are told " yes I did a mistake in fact you are the one I love not her" or the husband find himself liking someone else but "if my wife knows I'm doomed and I Don't want that happening because I can't let her go"... and so on Especially in the no to Polygamy countries. In Islam having more than one wife comes with a lot of responsibilities.First you have to be wealthy enough to support to wives and their family’s and if there’s divorce in the married still you have to be supporting them forever.Wives had to be from the poor families and many more rules.Its a fact in wealthy Ottoman Empire there was very few man had more than one wife.I think one of the purpose of able to have more than one wife was about distribution of the wealth.

Every divine law is a wise law, for He is the One who created us, and He is the Most Aware of our nature. For example, marrying more than one woman for someone who has the ability to bear responsibility, which is not permitted for women. This is something that has more than one reason. One of them is that every country in the world has more women than men, and this is due to the nature of the difficult work that men are assigned to, such as armies, such as building buildings, working in mines...etc. deadly work... The question is what happens to the number of women who do not have a husband, for example in a country where for every man there are 3 women, and the surplus is millions of women. Of course, if we were these women in a country that allowed one wife, they would become side friends and have forbidden relationships without permission, and they would not be like the Virgin Mary. Therefore, for the woman to remain a second wife, and have the same rights as the first wife, is a million times better for her than for her to be a side mistress without rights and obligations. The second important point is that a woman produces one egg per month, in addition to the duration of pregnancy, and therefore she has a certain number of children that can be produced over the course of her life, so naturally there is no equality between men and women in this matter. Because the man produces daily, and what he produces must be emptied, and if the wife goes through periods when she is unable to have intercourse, what will the man do? He will certainly fall into something that God has forbidden him from doing, unless he has a second wife who will prevent him from committing a sin. Also, scientifically, a woman who has intercourse with more than one man in the same period causes fatal diseases, and that is why diseases are always spread by prostitutes. But for a polygamous person, there are no diseases, even though he has two or three wives.

There are many reasons. Islam gives a suitable and legal way so that woman will get a second chance to be lived without any issues. During medieval times, there were huge number of wars. 1. Plenty widows and children did not get proper care 2. Baren women who cannot have children. 3. Woman in poor families unable to find a match 4. Divorced woman can find a new life. Today women are facing these kinds of issues and pushing it to commit illegal acts. If man is marrying a second wife means he must take atmost responsibility and give justice. Otherwise, Islam limiting to only one. Islam is the only religion talk about this social issue and gives solution.

The views of society during the time of the Prophet/King Solomon PBUH who had 700 wives and 300 concubines were certainly different when compared to the views of society during the time of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH which allowed a person to have wives with a limited to a maximum of 4 wive, because in the era before the Prophet Muhammad PBUH there was no limit to the number of wives. Nowadays people will have a different view where having more than one wife will certainly take up a lot of your time and will drain your finances unless you are very rich person. So Islamic teachings came to limit those who were previously allowed to have no limit number of wives, but were then limited to a maximum of 4 wives, and even then with the condition that they had to be fair, if you can't be fair then you should only have one wife (monogamy)

The difference is men would have multiple wives ro have sex with, not to have an actual bonded. That is why Monogamy is best because that is the design God had intended. Plus, it creates less problems with family feud.

It's very conditioned. It's clear in Quraan that in Islam it's better to have only one. These are very clear words of God in Quraan. Any one who reads Arabic can see it. Marrying with more than one is very conditioned.

I think in quran there is no such thing as taking 4 wives for fun, the case that this become possible is only if there is orphans!!! correct me if im wrong, that's clear in the quran.

If a man could feed 4 families in that time be emotionally and financially equal with 2-4 wifes it was permissible by Allah.
