The new Mercedes F1 car - back in its Silver Arrows livery after two years in black - was revealed prior to being shaken down at a stormy Silverstone on Friday, with George Russell the first to get behind the wheel during its filming day. Lewis Hamilton then took over on his first appearance since losing the 2021 drivers’ championship in last year’s controversial Abu Dhabi finale.
Hamilton put to bed fears he might walk away from F1, with the action announced by the FIA on Thursday evidently satisfying both driver and team.. So after two months of uncertainty, he will fight for an eighth world championship.
But the key question is will be Mercedes W13 be up to it, with team boss Toto Wolff saying that the team is treating its latest creation with its traditional scepticism. After all, despite its success, Mercedes takes nothing for granted.

The new rules will always test a team's computational and creative capabilities. What is really interesting is that Mercedes' concept is very reminiscent of 2019-2021 style concepts, (front wing loaded outwards, tightly packed side pods and wavy floor sections). No other team has such close resemblance to their earlier machinery, so it will be really interesting to see if this concept was really a refinement from a blank slate, or something they knew works adapted to a new set of regulations.

The suspiciously familiar to W12 design simply tells us that Mercedes pulled off a bluff, especially given the fact that the render is different from the car that was presented today in real life. Furthermore, Aston Martin in essentially being Mercedes' B Team will most likely have had access to a significant amount of Mercedes R & D >> design schematics & technical components, etc....just like they did for their "Pink Mercedes", therefore if they do end up running far higher up the pecking order this year, then they'll be no surprises there!! 😉😉

I really like Mercedes, and yes, they've maintained a stranglehold over the sport for almost a decade but that fact makes it easy to forget their early struggles, just after buying the title winning Brawn team. If we are talking about rule changes affecting them in negative ways then it has to be said that, yes they did nail the hybrid crossover rule change, but their return to F1, initially, was pretty much a 3 year stint of dead seasons. With Schumi and Nico for all three of those seasons I'd like to think we all expected much more from them. Fast-forwarding back to now, I'm not necessarily interested to see merc "fail", rather then I'd like to see other teams get it really right. If, for whatever reason, merc doesn't get this rule change 100% right, we could very well see this powerhouse fall from grace. I'm so excited for this season

That’s not what he said. He just said it hurt high rake which is obviously true. It is unfair that Mercedes that they changed the rules with development mostly frozen. However, that did not hand max the win. If you go back and look Mercedes ran a smaller wing at almost every track meaning they needed less downforce from wing than redbull and had advantage on straights
@tuck1726
@tuck1726 2 года назад
Mercedes won the constructors championship despite max winning the drivers championship. That should tell us something. Bottas still beat Perez more than Perez beat him. Furthermore bottas beat max more than Perez beat lewis. Mercedes had more 1-2 finishes and front row lockouts as well. All of that means one thing. Mercedes car was faster. There were plenty of low rake cars that didn’t have a chance at beating Mercedes. Clearly that’s not the definitive factor. McClaren even had a Mercedes engine, so you can’t argue the engine made up for the rake. All teams had to adapt to new regs. Aero is very sensitive to minor changes. After perelli came out with new tire and Mercedes figured out how to make high rake work with new regs they were faster.
