Great video and thanks for documenting this change. I was finally able to ride it and love the updated trail. The soul of the goat trail is still there, but it is faster, more fun and way more sustainable. The reality is you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn’t have a massive smile on their face after riding a Buck built section of trail.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! That's the truth, I've seen plenty of smiles out there this week.

Great to see the background thought on this. It was a ballsy move to mess with people's favorite trail first thing but I rode Goat twice yesterday and the updates were well done. Making the best better will give people confidence on future trail updates.

I just recently discovered Battle Creek Park and its amazing MTB trails. Thanks Kristofer for making these movies that make me understand the stories behind better. Man, the trails are so sweet and the park so beautiful. And they still do improvements. Wow

Rode the Goat 5 times this evening! My son and I stumbled into it not knowing what a gem it was until we rode it! Fast, flowy, jumpy, rooty, rocky oh and there’s a gap down by lower Afton Road I found the hard way. All is well, ego bruised but got on two tires and headed back up. Love your videos. Gonna head back to BC on Wednesday.

The tight landings have always sketched me out and prevented me from sending some of the jumps but it looks like there is more room for errors now. I like it

Yeah, the landings got a little bigger and longer. They are definitely more friendly.

Thanks for the vid! My son and I watched it and now he wants to make the trip down to ride the goat! We mostly ride bertram and elm creek so the exposure to the other great trails in MN is really appreciated.

Glad you liked it! You'll have a great time. My recommendation is to go the Battle Creek MTB trail facebook page and download the map that they have put up. Navigation can be a little tricky out there the first time. Also the trailforks app has up to date information.

Great to know a local trail is still getting updated and improved! With the economy where its currently at I still have reservations about pulling the trigger on my first bike, but I've been semi-scratching the itch by hiking through Battle Creek the past few weeks. Thanks to your first video on it of course!

There lots of work being done at Battle Creek. Yeah, it's tough to make a big purchase when there's so many unknowns out there. But keep a look out at prices. I think there's a lot of deals out there to be had.

Kristofer Yahner Yeah I hear there are some killer deals on used bikes and components right now if you can swing a purchase. Sweet video dude. Moved out to the PNW last year and seeing good MN riding feels nice. 👍 Hope to see the old home turf in Duluth in some vids this summer. Hit Dr Rockso next time you’re up. There’s a sweet step down after the big drop now.

The ravine gap on the unfinshined lower section looks rad. Some good options to work up to. A couple areas where I'm not quite confident...the double step down after the 3x jumps toward the top, the middle roller gap just after the side hip log landing, the last jump which is the biggest and a bit soft and lost its shape. It's fun to re-watch your footage after riding this trail and seeing how you road/filmed these sections :) Solid trail top to bottom! Pretty impressive feat.

Thought it was gonna get nerf’d at first. Then I heard pathfinder trails was involved and was actually gonna add to it, which turned my fears into excitement. It’s even better than it was before and I have yet to see all of it as the very bottom is still closed off. 2020 is off to a terrible start thanks to covid, but at least there is quite a few things to look forward to if you’re into mountain biking. New redhead trail system in Chisholm, new lines at Cuyuna, Battle Creek looking better by the week, Bertram getting expanded upon, plus brand new trails at Carver Park Reserve and Lone Lake in the Metro. Minnesota mountain biking is leveling up.

What bike are you using in this video? And the video you took at Welch village. Just getting into biking in the minneapolis area and trying to figure out what to get with the terrain we have. Trail, enduro, dh, I’m leaning away from dh since we don’t have many trails with lifts available. Thank you 😊
@KrisYahner
@KrisYahner 4 года назад
I was riding a Santa Cruz Nomad in this video. It's overkill for the trails we have in the metro, but it's still fun and it's the bike I travel with since I know it will be fun on longer xc rides and lift accessed bike parks. For the most part I ride a 29r hardtail in the metro. I'd say you'd be real happy with a full suspention bike in the 130-150mm range like a Bronson or a Salsa Rustler. Or a hardtail with little slacker geo.

What’s the best trail for a beginner in Minnesota? I just started a few weeks ago and have a good bike. My bike can do technical trails because the tires are not that big but I’m a beginner so maybe not to technical also for a younger person.

Carver Lake park in Woodbury is a great trail to learn on. It’s got some nice flow and some features to play around on. Elm Creek might also be a good option.
@baylorlitsey4394
@baylorlitsey4394 4 года назад
But why are trail builders making new trails so wide? Replacing old natural terrain with new smooth dirt and jumps. It's pretty sad really, we're losing all the natural trails in the area. Even up in Duluth they're always replacing the og trails with these smooth wide trails that are a lot easier and less fun to ride.
@KrisYahner
@KrisYahner 4 года назад
So what’s interesting about this project is that for the existing trail, the trail bed was not widened. It definitely looks wider than it was before because all the leaves were blown off and back slope soil was disturbed but eventually weeds will grow back and leaves will blow in and this trail will look as narrow as it did before. Almost every new trail seems too polished and too smooth but over time they ride in like other trails. Rocks and roots start to show through again.
