Mick needs a driver like K Mag. I think last year hurt Mick if anything. He wasn’t challenged by an experienced driver. I’m sure Mick will learn and grow as a driver even if he’s in the back foot a bit.

I agree but I’m not sure it’s even competition that he needs although it will certainly help. He needs to know what’s possible. What CAN he get out of that car. You can’t expect a first year driver to have any sense of that in a car that is clearly not competitive. I think that just having an experienced driver running the same equipment he is every week will help him a ton by just giving him a baseline.

If Ferrari is still Mick's goal he's going to be waiting for a while as there's simply no reason for Ferrari to change their driver line-up for the foreseeable future. That gives him plenty of time to hone his skills and abilities at Haas providing they still want him and they give him a decent enough car.

Especially considering he has been out of the sport for so long, etc. But in all honesty, one good performace doesnt instantly spell trouble for mick. If by the summer break, magnussen has wiped the floor with mick, consistently, then yeah, maybe we can ask these sorts of questions/have these sorts of debates. Lets just see how it plays out first though. One good performace from magnussen, in the first race of the season, doesnt instantly make him a superstar driver. Thanks for the feedback, I did state in the video that one race doesn't write their season already but what I tried to do with the video is say that this will be a wake up call to Mick after a fairly comfortable ride against his previous teammate, KMag showed how difficult of a teammate he will be and my point was that it will be interesting to see Mick step up to the plate and compete with a quality driver like KMag if he want to one day drive for a top team, classic rivalry of experienced driver vs young hotshot

Believe me, I was irked too. Bit early to say much especially since Schumacher's race was ruined pretty quickly by Ocon at the very start. One thing to point out though is that Magnussen is a heavily underrated driver, and one of his skills has always been to qualify well above where he has any right to put the car, usually resulting in him dropping back a bit in the race. - this is part of the reason why I think he has a bit of a reputation for being over the edge is because he needs the aggressive defensive driving to keep faster cars behind constantly. I think overall this is a very positive thing for Schumacher as he needs someone to learn from and Magnussen has the speed and experience to do that. Schumacher isn't going to Ferrari any time soon (unless something drastic changes) and if Haas can be an upper midfield team then this can be best case scenario for the team and drivers. Decent car, experienced #1 driver and a hungry young #2 driver, that's all the components any team needs.

@@attackhelicopter588 agreed I think people jump to conclusions a bit too soon. It's only been one race in a 23 race season. And even regardless of the spin, its only Mick's second F1 season, and first in an actually competitive car. K-Mag, while he did take a break has had years of F1 experience which is something that cannot be just overlooked. I know how the F1 community is and their response to this would be that Zhou finished p10 on debut. But the fact that mick had a spin, which upset the balance of the car, and still got a P12 is commendable. I'm not a mick fan but as a fan of the sport, its sad to see drivers get judged so early on into a season, literally only one race.

KMAG one of the most underrated drivers, and in my humble opinion the best of His generation of racing drivers, and on top, His racing style is old school, witch I find as the most compelling and clean cut style of racing. No compromises....always fighting! No matter what car you give him, He will drive the S"#¤t out of it, to the limit and in most cases beyond...Look at last year in IMSA, the test one off race he did in indy.....Pure talent! and He is still very hungry...but now even more matured, with so much knowledge. He is still the only one that has had the opportunity to drive with all the engines of the hybrid era. You give him the right package, He could be way up there....perhaps I see to much in KMAG, but i still think, he could both beat Leclerc, Hamilton and Verstappen if He was in a similar car. As for the battle starting between him and Schumi Junior, Shumi Junior will learn allot from KMAG, but expect no mercy when racing. That was also the way of Schumi Seniors ideology, but I have the feeling that Junior does not have the same mindset as His Father did. KMAG has much more the style of His own Father driving style. We will see, and so looking forward to this season! And thanks for a great analysis by the way, and sorry for taking up so much space! 💪🏻🙏🏻🏎😂

We know that Mick has a bit of a habit of taking some time to get up to speed. With the rule changes and the fact that the car is competitively in a different league to 2021, I almost see the first half of this year being another rookie year for Mick. Looking at last year, Haas were closer to the front of the field at the end of the year than the start. We know that wasn’t car development, so Mick out-developed other teams’ cars. Sons (or nephews) of famous racing drivers don’t always have similar or better abilities than their fathers (or uncles) despite all the money, nepotism, & opportunities that their famous surname automatically opens doors to. Mick Schumacher is no exception, he is a only a semi decent driver who may do well in GT or Sports cars, but he will never be a top tier F1 driver like his Dad, just like others who have totally failed to live up to the high expectations of their fathers or uncles. The fact that he is totally outclassed by an older driver who was never considered to be one of the front runners, after a year off shows what a lot of us have known for ages. Magnussen is quicker than he was before, driving WEC, IMSA & IndyCar have added experience that staying in F1 wouldn’t have given him, I rated him as a top 10 driver before, now I think he’s near the top 5, at least in one lap pace, once he’s fully settled back I think he’ll be a constant in the points, could see him get 100+ points this year with that Haas Ferrari package, but of course it’s very early to tell

My god people love to throw so much shit on him at the first chance they get after the first race without knowing anything about what happened in Bahrain. Does everyone just like to forget that he’s an F3 and F2 champion and just completely gloss over him because he’s not Norris or Russell. Mick’s side of the garage made so many fuck ups in relation to his weekend, for starters his engineers chose the wrong set up and overall balance in the car for qualifying leading to the car just being oversteer heaven and not working with the tyres at all. In the race as we all saw the contact with Ocon damaged the rear of his car just dragging him down the order and then the team thought they’d be able to leave him out on completely shot tyres expecting points, whether that was because he had no allocated sets left I’m not sure
@Mexxx65

In that Mick is a F3/F2 champion. It holds almost nothing for him in F1. Mick got into F1 because of his Father. Zhou got into F1, becoming China's first full time F1 driver. Zhou scored points in his first race. Mick has still not scored any points into his second season now. Zhou's points in F1 will always be regarded as superior to whatever points Mick may get in the HAAS this year.
@notthefia9154

@@Mexxx65 Well when you’re the son of the greatest driver of all time that does tend to help. But it’s ironic that fans/teams want or expect drivers to win F2 and F3 before they get to F1 like Charles and George did, but when you get a “descendant of a great” that goes against the grain, goes and wins the system F1 itself set up to get the best of the best to rise to the top of, there will always be people who still think he’s in F1 only because he’s Micheal’s son. At least he isn’t like Giuliano Alesi, Pedro Piquet, Enzo Fittipaldi or David Schumacher who absolutely flopped and spent 90% of the time at the back of the grid in F2 or F3, had a breakout result or points and then flopped again. If you want to talk about drivers who are all name then I’m sorry but it’s fact that Alesi was only in the FDA because his father is John Alesi, he didn’t win or finish in the top 3 in any junior/ karting championships or show any form of unbelievable pace throughout his junior career. My man literally dropped it on the installation lap at Spa about 30 metres from the pit exit in F2

Schumacher’s path was to Ferrari bits that’s got very complicated. Ferrari signing Sainz was them admitting that Giovinazzi wasn’t deemed worthy of a shot at Ferrari, and the plan was to have Sainz for 2 years to get some consistent points in and not worry Leclerc until Schumacher is ready after a couple of years at Haas under Ferrari’s eye now those teams are closer. BUT Sainz upset that plan massively by beating Leclerc, now Leclerc has to become even better this year and that could be part of him winning the title this year, how could they drop Sainz after that? And meanwhile Schumacher’s been able to get nothing done in the worst car with a teammate any other driver on the field would comfortably beat, and now the car is good he could be totally outshone by a returning experienced driver. Would that be Ferrari worthy? Schumacher needs to improve rapidly and consistently beat Magnussen AND Sainz needs to completely fall away or make the driver line up too toxic for Ferrari to want to do the swap now. And that’s a big ask

Bit of a stretch, K Mag has 7+ years of F1 excluding other series. This is Micks schumachers second year, first year was with a car that was written off and no teamate to learn from. Mick did well in his first race and was doing well in testing for Jeddah. Other drivers voiced concerns about how dangerous the track was and the less experienced Mick fell victim to it. Its a bit early to be talking about Ferrari.

I’m not prepared to declare Mick washed, just the positive vibes around K-Mag coming back and then his awesome weekend, took some eyes off Mick. As for how is he, I’d say he’s a solid 6.5/10, his junior career didn’t look amazingly impressive, but he has shown that he can blow up an uncompetitive teammate. He is still so inexperienced, hence he needs that benchmark driver like K-Mag, in order to up his game. He needs to start being closer to K-Mag, to become a quality midfield driver that can score big points for Haas, which they sorely need. Luckily he’s a driver everyone is willing to support, because he’s such a sweet guy, really kind kid, Seb taught him very well there.

He would have gotten to F1 eventually but his name brought that forward a few years. He wasn't ready for F1. Also, his teammate was worse then useless.

How many great champions can come from the same age bracket? It's a statistical certainty only 2 at most will be greats, 1 may win an odd titles, the rest will win a few races but that's it.
