This is great, Mark! My husband is Jordanian, and he's a big believer is sob7iyeh. He loves having a nice relaxing morning together with a good cup of Arabic coffee and Fairouz playing in the background. He and I can talk about stuff later in the day, but mornings are peaceful, quiet and sacred!

I always admired my parents morning time. I would lay in bed and just listen to them. Quiet soft voices (which was rare for dad lol) and sweet exchanges like: would like another cup of coffee... yes that was delicious, did you see this in the paper?, Hey here is a coupon for that stuff you wanted me to pick up... did your mom cook xyz ...oh yes it was the best... i think it was the wood stoves that made our mothers food so good... weeell that helped, but a lot if hard work went into it. ...Oh I know... i remember.... oh me too.... . It was such a beautiful exchange, much like a dance. I'm so glad to know there is a beautiful word for it.

Hello Mark. I loved the concept of you trying to explain Lebanese traditions. However, on this one you got half of the tale. You see I'm from the elder generation and still remember the Sobhieh if my grandma. It only came at around 8,9 am after she'd finished the first course of early morning chores. She'd wake up at 4 am, do the washing on the Babour (by hand of course) clean the kitchen, prepare breakfast at 6 - 6:30 am, tidy up the rooms, شطف أدام الباب، then coffee break with all the ladies in the neighborhood (usually) all related the Sob7ieh time. They discuss plans for lunch, discuss all the other people's businesses, agree who is sharing what food with which house, then go about the second course of the daily chores. That's how I remember it. I admire you taking the time to reminisce over our old traditions and keep them alive.

Ah. I shared this w my husband and he told me a story about a Lebanese mother who came to visit her grown kid in the US. She brought coffee and stuff to do this w a neighbor and she was yelled at, like, "what are you doing on my property," blahblahblah. Kid had told her not to, but momma had done it her whole life and didn't understand the culture difference. Poor lady, being neighborly hospitable and getting that treatment.

It’s such a great course so far. You learn about the culture as you learn the language and that’s a very beautiful thing. ☺️☺️

You hit it right on the nose! Bravo! It was therapy. When I was small I used to listen to my mom and all her friends women from the neighborhood. Each one would talk about what was bothering her and all the other women would comfort her and give her some advice.

Being from Lebanese decent, I love my sole sob7iyeh. As I wake up I do my own spiritual things in the morning such as my breakfast, coffee, YouTubing (latest news) and du calme c’est mon moment de tranquillité. If my family is visiting me from abroad, la Shisha is made daily after breakfast and we spend time chitchatting and enjoying the day.

Each dialect family is different. You can roughly classify it as such: gulf Arabic, levantine Arabic, Nile valley Arabic, Maghrebi Arabic. Each class includes anywhere from 2 to 5 countries.

@@tarekandnourhan7432 It's more complicated than that, even in each country the dialect varies by regions. There is no single dialect in Egypt or Syria, and the same for Saudi Arabia and Algeria etc
