Our failure can sometimes be contributed to three specific reasons. This video explores the misconceptions of failure as a music producer, what really matters, and what doesn't.

That is certainly a big part of it, but some of us do want to be able to generate some income from this. I drive uber as a 2nd job. I would much rather spend that time making music, but it has to generate some income for that to happen.

thats certainly true! its a subjective thing, why are you in production? If you want to make a living out of it, you need to be aware of whats hip now, and you need to be on point with socials and everything. For me, this is too much, i have a certain vision about playing music, mostly 90s/00s techno with new things that fit in. In sets im more looking for a certain groove or theme, but i wont get popular with this. That doesnt matter for me, because music is not my main income. If you have a passion for a certain style that isnt that popular but more in the underground, thats dedication to certain styles. In production, i also like the 90s/00s style more because of the less hard mastering, more dynamics, lofi, organic. This is also not popular atm. But its something i resonate with, so i do it this way. But if you want to make it in music, or become a big artist, well thats hard work i think, but you are also tied to what is popular at the moment.

I remember once seeing Claude VonStroke, show up in a video taking classes on Ableton live. He was already running some amazing shit while also sitting in a class with everyone else. That was SO INSPIRATIONAL to me! I love knowing that you can make the time and energy to never stop learning even at that level

The number 2 reason is sooo relatable rn. Its sad to see both Pros and also amateurs doing the same old shit everyone is doing by forgetting their true talent and calling it "doing something new" or "experimentation". One can also experiment and evolve their true roots, the way artists like Hardwell and Martin Garrix did. You can argue saying Martijn still makes Progressive House, believe me he somehow manages to make it sound fresh and unique unlike most Prog. House producers these days. His last song for example has more use of instruments than the typical detuned saw leads and stuff.

Very true stuff, I do agree on that with you, and am trying myself to focus on multiple things at once, cannot just simply invest all in one thing, but honestly sometimes it rly tends to be overwhelming to do it all just by urself and not getting much feedback nor support where u rly need it, great video I do appreciate sharing your perspective and knowledge!

What about someone like me? When you live in Iran, a dictatorship country in the 3rd world and music is somehow completely illegal especially electronic, rock, and .... No festivals, no clubs. Ruined currency which results in very hard for you to buy equipment and completely for a music producer there is no way to succeed but to leave this country because it doesn't have a future here. And for Iranian people immigration is also harder than other people from other countries. So how about that brother? 🙃
@tommyapocalypse6096

This is a great question, and one that is very probably not given the consideration it deserves. I wish I had an answer for you. Admittedly though, I have not given it much attention. You’ve definitely provided a veritable buffet table for thought. 😊👍🏻

@@tommyapocalypse6096 yeah, and lots of us music producers lose our hopes and motivations for our lives because music is our life. And somehow some may face suicide or arrested by government

That's a harsh reality that it's impossible to ackowledge with the privileges of the "first world". I'm impressed that popular music is illegal there. Assume that producing it is considered illegal, isn't it? The good part of it is that nowadays you don't need festivals or clubs to succeed, you can do it purely on the internet, the solution might be to hide your real identity and use vpns and things like that. Just guessing
@grandpanda2791

Unfortunately, not everyone gets the same chances. Sometimes you have circumstances that just make it virtually impossible. However, where there is a will, there is a way. You have to take a step every day towards your goal. Maybe first you should focus on getting out of your country, if others have made it out of your country, how did they do it? It will be a much slower process than everyone else but if it’s what you really badly want, then go for it step by step even if it takes you 20 years it’s still possible. And trust me I’m not just trying to give you hope, this is coming from someone who’s parents escaped their country to make a better life as well.

@@grandpanda2791 hey brother, thanks a lot for all your words. Certainly for the goal of music that I have in my mind I should leave this country and for sure I will but you know the ways as you mentioned are also important. The country I want to immigrate in the first step is the USA and if they don't give me the VISA (although i hope they accept and give me 🥲) in the 2nd step I will immigrate to Canada, my aunt live in Toronto. You know even for immigration Iranians have lots of sanctions especially from the US, because the USA gives Iranians VISA very hard and sometimes you will never get accepted because of the challenges between our government and their government, because of a powerful and big group in our country which is held by our government which did some terroristic attacks in mideast, USA consider Iranians as terrorist and because our f*cking government they give us visa very hard for immigration. All of our people, almost 90% are against our government nowadays and we have struggles and fights in the streets everyday and they arrest us with very harsh acts and then they put you in the van and they will borrow you to nowhere which sometimes they even give back the corpses to their families. Especially our women, I don't know if you heard anything about the protests and movements which started 2 years ago after they killed a young girl in a police station by smashing her head because she just wanted freedom of appearance. Idk man, I should really just say the hell on earth at least in this era of Iran. I don't know where you are from dude, but if you are from the US can you guide me with some immigration ways of it, I also have some relatives there maybe they can help me come there, I mean I don't know if I can come there by invitation because they are citizens of US now, the uncle of my mom he left Iran 50 years ago and went to US.

I just had an interesting conversation with one of my friends how my online presentation of my "character" feels to him. It really woke me up in the following aspect: How I, my ego, sees my projects and work doesn't necessarily mean that my audience sees them in the same way. Now: I can go on and explain myself and the meaning behind everything or I can listen and use the feedback to find new ways to better my "artistic" communication. I don't know if it makes sense reading. It makes at least sense for me. So: Thanks for the video and your words. Have my like for now. Nice channel. ❤

As has been said, if you are having fun - and I’ll add - and making/producing music that you enjoy listening to, you have in no way “failed”. This thing we do is primarily an art - not a strictly commercial endeavor. And though we use technology, what comes out from our efforts is still art. It’s not all about the moolah, or the fame, or any of that fleeting stuff. The success lies in knowing that we have created a work of art which will most likely outlive ourselves. And that is success in its purest form.

You have to be good and unique for starters. Then you have to shamelessly promote the hell out of yourself and hope you catch the right people's ear. If you are really talented, you should be able to get popular in your home town. If you can't win over your own home town then that's a sign you're just not that great.
