Well, this is my most disliked video so far 😆Now that we know more about the game, I definitely stand by my thoughts that Nintendo are leaning into the skins side of things. Could they have done this with Miis? Yup! But, it is what it is. At least using Miis is pretty simple!
I have a ton of nostalgia for Wii Sports (and Wii Sports Resort) but I still like the new characters. I REALLY like Spocco Square. I’m probably gonna use the Miis tho.
The game is honestly amazing and the sports mates are…. Okay… what it’s missing is the mii. I loved how when I would be playing the game I would see the mii’s I created in the background or just seeing all the different variety of characters. Especially when playing the baseball, I would see the mii’s in the team. Like I would see my grandma in my team playing base ball. The sports mates WOULD of been great if I didn’t have to work for other accessories. I wished that the accessories could be accessible for other users instead of just the people who are PAYING for internet. ALL OF THE USERS LOOK THE SAME! It’s just not what I wanted
There is nothing wrong with companies trying something new or changing stuff. And that should be embraced more. Of course if it's bad then their criticism Nintendo is just getting more modern and I think the old miis wouldn't get new customers. There is a whole new generation who Nintendo needs to get hooked into this serie.
@@MasterTrainerPeter I don’t know, my Switch was banned from online services so I may just play it in an emulator or something. If I get unbanned I’ll totally buy it though.
I understand when people are sad that they can't use the miis as they could earlier, but the amount of hate of the game simply for that is weird to me, since you can still use the miis, they just have normal arms and legs now and outfits, I like both versions of the miis and I'm probably gonna use both the miis and the sport mates
@@MasterTrainerPeter Same with me but the only problem I have is that it just looks like Nintendo reused the Sportsmates bodies for the Mii’s instead of using one of their own bodies that fit there art style for some reason
@@SHANELOFRANCO I mean, its most likely a 'Mii Mask' cosmetic, so its definitely the Sportsmates bodies. Using the Mii bodies against Sportsmates bodies in a match would look worse.
that squirrel character kind of looks like a sport team mascot you would see at a team celebration or something, what if you're able to join teams and unlock team clothing as rewards for winning games while on the team?
@@MasterTrainerPeter Eh, maybe a little exaggerated, but I still agree with OP here. The Miis were essentially the protagonists of Wii Sports after all.
That sounds neat. So if they are going with anthro skins, they should have them fully customizable. Like if I unlock a dragon skin for this game, I want to color it in the way I do on Deviantart.
I will really miss the miis (as a standard). They could've given new outfits and haircuts to miis and ehh I think the new characters look kinda,, egh. Weird toony vibe imo The whole obsession with skins is not really a vibe either, why bring that to wii sports :/ Glad to see the miis are still available tho!
As I said in the video, I think its to create further incentive to play in a 'skin' based world. Heaps of games with skins as rewards. This is what they're doing. Yeah, Im happy to see Miis still about!
the main reason i use my mii and not the sportsmate is cuz, atleast to start there are literally just THREE diff male hairstyles (and 3 female ones) and as a guy with long hair, i had zero options even CLOSE - i just dont get why they would omit something that simple (unless there will be a ton of unlockable haircuts but still, why not give us those up front?)
hey I know I'm a bit late to the discussion, but I can't stop thinking about how unsettling I find the sportsmates. I'm an animation/game dev student and I recently learned about the importance of converging eyes. The only time eyes don't converge to one point is after death, so when characters have a parallel stare it feels really uncanny. Maybe it's generally an uncanny character design, a little too life-like and so creepy in my opinion
you can see with the miis in the game that all those things can be done well with the miis, these sportsmates have no reason being in the game. the new body and fluid animations (besides the face), cosmetics, online, all can be done with the miis, so it would seem modernized enough while still retaining the main characters of the game and the nostalgia factor. if miis were the main focus
Sportsmates definitely do serve their own purpose as a playable Avatar. They suit the aesthetic better (imo). Still, fact is you can use Mii or Sportmates, so in the end it doesn't massively matter I reckon! 😁
@@MasterTrainerPeter i'm glad that they added the ability to use your mii, but i think it looks really weird when the miis and sportsmates are next to each other, like you can see in the latest switch sports trailer. like they have the same every feature besides sportsmates having 3d modeled faces and mii faces are flat on the head, just a complete contrast of style, and the miis just look better when seperate. the option to use miis is great but it goes weird with the sportsmates, and all the cpus are sportsmates too with no ability to make them miis instead so it still doesn't get the full feel of wii sports even when you're a mii
I can see why Nintendo's doing this, and i'd honestly be more ok with it if they didn't shove Miis to the side so much, but in the end i'd say the criticism's worth it, since the criticism shows Nintendo loud and clear that people still care for the Miis. If it weren't for such harsh backlash, I could honestly see Nintendo just straight up ditching the Miis.
What does "modern" mean and why should I care? Mario is a 43 year old character yet he still features in new games My problem is that it was your go-to description for the changes and you used it multiple times "modern this, modern that", the Miis are beloved because they are charming and encourage creativity, words with actual meaning and make me want to see them over and over again My latest personal Miis look nothing like when I was a kid, even when I make them with the Wii's limitations, and the new features like a wider variety of colors and size customization options are good ways to actually modernize the Miis (as in, to improve them and build upon the foundation with features that may have been to costly back then) Sometime a product relies on nostalgia, and other times it's just an actually good idea that is still a good idea
I never actually liked the Miis on the Wii. They always felt limited and wooden. Would it really have been so hard to give us even a few more colors to choose from? So this is a welcome change for me.
