I like how there was a big backlash for his old design only for people praising the full release design to not even play him Now no one seems to be happy with this character

Listen, if theres only one lingyang main in this world then that's me and if there's none left then I've passed. But honestly, it's much more satisfying to not play the meta but just the characters that you like. I love this silly little lion boy and to me his plaustyle is fun and rewarding, especially because it is challenging. I don't want to trivialise the game with overpowered units, i wanna struggle against enemies, i wanna try over and over to succeed. (Maybe i should just go and play a rouge like--)

One thing that I feel could've made him way more usable, imagine if his skill was instead a parry / block or got upgraded to one while in the air, and make it not interrupt his current combo. It'd be an interesting way for him to avoid getting juggled himself.

The Moment I saw Lingyang when I started WuWa, He instantly became one of my favorite characters. He’s just so cute and so cool.

It feels like they intended several characters to be played with the gameplan of "break the boss's toughness bar with the rest of your team and then unload character X's full combo while they're stunned." The problem is any DPS can do that, so a DPS that only does that is substandard.

i like his design.... i tend to prefer more cutesy characters, but not ones that go so overboard that they're literally children. (example: hu tao, koleda) so i like him

and then there is ZZZ who broke the Ice Curse with Lycaon.

If he could summon larger lion spirit paws for some extra distance with those mid-air punches, he'll be less taxing to play. Also, if his liberation can fill his forte to 100%, his rotations would be more seamless.

Wait, people don’t like his current design? Everyone I’ve talked to thinks Ling Yang is adorable, and I agree. He’s like a mix of Gaming and Bennett in my eyes. I thought he well went into waifu over meta, even if he wasn’t the most popular. Makes me sad that he isn’t loved as much as he deserves.

Lingyang's character designs is absolutely one of my favorite top 5 (it's because of him and Jinhsi why I installed the game), the only reason why I don't use him is because I don't know how to use him. His kits are too hard for me to understand. Maybe, once I got Zhezhi, I'll definitely try to build him

I didn't know his S1 was good, I just got it bc I like Lingyang.

Lingyang could probably use the Glacio Dreadmane as the main Echo because it can be used mid-air, but it does put you back on the ground once it's finished. Ideally to be used right after Lingyang's Forte finisher kicks. Unfortunately, for some reason it has 20s cooldown despite being just an Elite echo.

Appearance isn’t that big of a deal, Lycaon is also a furry but he is very likable. The problem is his role in beta is to steal your kill, and when you go up and chat to him, he is like “why are you still here?”

He's really not that bad as everyone says he is. He gets labeled bad by content creators. Even though three community mostly agrees that clacharo is basically the worst one now. Your going to do a video on why no one plays calcharo soon.

Completely unrelated to the whole video but I really like you’re voice it got such a positive vibe to it

The thing about Lingyang against other DPS is that Lingyang is very dependent on his combo and is greedy in on-field time. He's also uncomfortable because he can't quickswap but this is not much of a problem for me. This is what I noticed as a Lingyang main. The only reason why he's pretty mid is because of his damage multipliers but otherwise, he's very fun to play and pretty easy to learn. I also noticed that he's very comfortable to use in mobile and his outro skill damage is crazy. If you're only interested in Meta, then by all means don't pull nor use him unless he gets a significant buff.

While Kuro is more open in buffing their units, like how in PGR they buff existing units via leaps. In wuwa, they might take a more traditional gacha approach of fixing existing units by releasing another unit that might buff the character indirectly or straight up replace him/her with a new unit of similar playstyle. I actually think that wuwa is already embracing the latter approach of fixing units as we've seen with Xiangli Yao literally being Calcharo 2.0(I have a feeling that after Taoqi, Cal will be next in "Why no one plays" xD), because it is more financially beneficial. So with all that said above, there's a fat chance that Lingyang himself will get a buff to his kit, either kuro will release a support or sub-dps that synergizes with him well or straight up release an ice dps unit that replaces the jingle "deez nuts" beast, and we all know the latter will most likely happen xDD

Do you have a document or something for all the places you get your info for? I typically build/play every character in the gacha games I play, and with so many characters/games to look at, most of my "research" is surface level. As you said Lingyang is particularly difficult to find info on and pretty much any of you WNOP's videos I'd love to see what you were to look at. Especially since you've been doing these video's for so long, I'm sure you have better access to these things since you know where to look and know who to ask, at least much more than me.

I think Lingyang will get stronger as time goes on, but he won’t be meta ever. I think his biggest weakness is that there isn’t a shielder aside from Jianxin, who is anti synergistic with him because she takes his much needed field time away. If we get a Zhongli type shielder, I’d imagine him to feel much better to play.

I get that Lingyang's not among the best but I still find him fun to play as especially when exploring and echo farming.

Seeing the title of this video made me stop and laugh because I felt so called out. I feel a little bad that I haven’t built him, but his play style just isn’t enough for me to stop building my main team (now teams)

Zhezhi is probably the most dedicated support for lingyang currently, being able to buff ice damage, skill damage and apparently give energy regen

I play with Lingyang. He's cute and cool, and once I got used to the combat I was able to carve out a niche for him on my team. ^_^

Oh yeah, further explanation on why mech abomination and the lingering tunes set is considered the current best set for him currently; Due to the way damage calc works, it’s better to have a good mix of high attack and ele dmg and Lingyang’s ultimate provides additional ele dmg for a duration, meaning gaining additional atk helps him more than additional stacking of ele dmg for him damage wise.

dont play wuwa, but i find it really funny that they shaved him (alongside cutting off that one guy's tail). i do think his current design looks better, but the his one wasnt unsalvageable or anything.

They really got to add more echoes, echo set effects, characters, and weapons, which synergize more with his playstyle. Currently the only echo which really synergizes with his midair playstyle is the glacio dreadmane, but even then it lacks the damage and buffs of 4-cost echoes.

Calcharo number is not terrible but his gameplay is cuz of his BS forte mechanic so people don't play him anymore while Lingyang base number is a joke, he is much weaker than any other DPS on top of being meh to play. At least Calc look hella badass and when played properly feels pretty good

It sucks because I’m someone who plays and adores Lingyang. I love his design, I love his personality, I love his lore, and I love his play style (in theory), but it downright a struggle to play him most of the time. I want to keep playing him but I feel like I can’t, not optimally at least, and that’s discouraging. The same thing happened to me with Yangqing too. I have the worst luck possible it seems.

I don’t have him yet but also won’t be that sad when he eventually comes. He’s very adorable and feels fresh because he’s so different.

The main reason why I played Lingyang is bc of his companion story and his design Hehe And even though I don't play him anymore, he's still one of my favorite characters

am I using this video as research to make lingyang broken in my account? Yes, absolutely.

Actually the only standard character I don't own, and I'm pretty fine with that. Aside from basically breakdance fighting, there's nothing all that cool about him. Fun overworld pick perhaps, but not meta. Comparing the others: Verina, #1 character in the game, universal support fits on any team. Jianxin, worse Verina. Provides shields, which is arguably better than healing, and comes with crowd control, but feels slower and less reliable overall. Calcharo: Diluc in a Sephiroth cosplay, with Cyno burst. That's basically the whole kit. It's not strictly bad, even post nerf, but it can be incredibly difficult to get the maximum value from him. Encore: Annoying little kid, who happens to be everything we wanted Klee to be. Arguably competitive with limited 5 stars, but I personally am not a fan of her.

I started playing this game with him being one of the first reasons, i even chose his copy over verina, i love him so much an i wish he could be decent, but... it is what it is, at least he is playable and fun to play, and also adorable

I do feel that Lingyang could fill the role of a "rusher" if that ever becomes a thing. I feel that Jinhsi, while sharing the "enchanced normals" feature, hers is more a buffer for her nuke, so she can't dump her forte immediately, as she is likely to die before she could pull it off. This is worsened by the fact she isn't that mobile in the air. As you had mentioned, anti-interruption should be baked into his kit, providing himself as a sticky DPS which can fight through things apart from hard CC, not necessarily a tank but can take chip damage and heal while in the reserve when your burst or support are doing their things. Effectively, they selling point is their ease of use and existing outside of the DPS rotation system. This brings into comparison you made with Rover and Danjin, as they focus on being on the field for longer and focusing on their basic attack chains. Rover and Danjin have means to restore their HP on the field, so when given forms of anti interruption (bell turtle or chadwu, etc) they can go ham. Lingyang does have skills which help him shorten his B. Attack chain, but he lacks the same ability to reliably sustain himself on the field that his kit builds him up to be.

I love Lingyang. I lost to him on Jiyan banner and got guarantee Jinshi because of him

I like Lingyang design, like thats my optimistic artistic dancing son, with a sad furry backstory. Like you said he has no good equipment/support. At least in the early game, he was fun to jump around and explore. I did end up getting Jhinsi, so now he's benched till further notice.

both Tao and Ling were the first chars i builded still playing the tiger boy but the booba girl was replaced by the other 5star gauntlet char

I love his design and personality and wish he was just stronger. I got him during the last banner but it will be ages before I can build him, because unfortunately materials are just better invested in stronger characters right now.

They chickened out of too many things in this game His design is a reminder of that to me, and due to the lack of ql in his kit and stilted voice lines, I just dislike him. I hope they'll revisit this concept in the future it sucks that he turned out like this.

Ice is an Debuff theme element, yet they can't lend into that theme too much. So the underperform have to find another identity, and evidently, they fail.
