ALOT of the companies and their employees that are fleeing California's over population, Liberal political policies, high crime and sky high taxes are moving to New Mexico because of the availability of cheap land, low cost of living and tax breaks the state are offering companies and people to relocate there. I bought 25 acres right on the Rio Grande river in Los Lunas (35 miles south of Albuquerque) when I was TDY to Kirkland AFB for 6 months in 2008 for next to nothing to build a cabin and start a Homestead when I retired, I'm moving out there at the end of this year and was there last September to drop off the 25' foot camper I'm going to live in while I build my cabin and I was amazed how to how big the Area had grown, in 2008 there wasn't much around the AFB but now it all built up and the Albuquerque metro has grown several miles past the AFB, while I was there I was talking to my neighbor who moved there in 2021 from Los Angeles when his automotive aftermarket company was moved to South Albuquerque and he was telling me how much cheaper it was for both those workers that agreed to move with the company and the company, they literally cut the starting pay in half for all the employees that they new employees and the employees that moved by 25% and they are living high on the hog, he sold his 1 bedroom apartment in L.A. and bought a 5 acre piece of land and even after he built his house and bought a new car to commute to work and a new car for his wife and even then it barely made a dent in the money he sold his apartment for and he's lived off the money from his apartment for the last 3 years and his paychecks just strait into bank and hasn't been touched, he said his wife stopped working when they moved to New Mexico because they no longer needed her paycheck to barely squeeze by. He said moving New Mexico was the best decision he and his wife ever made.

Despite what this video said about Vermont being affordable, It's incredibly expensive here now, and there is no housing. Driving in a hilly state where the roads are salted during the brutal winters means that cars don't last. That's another huge expense. Living in Vermont is like having a gorgeous spouse that is also cruel and unloving. I love Vermont, but I have to leave. Please visit though, from June through September it's paradise. Especially in June.

Im an introvert too but I could never live here. I grew up in the country. Not this rural, but rural enough to know it sucks. Driving thirty+ minutes to buy toilet paper, having to own a gun because you can't wait for a cop a county over to shoot the deer you hit with your car, waiting an hour for an ambulance when you've broken a bone and tore open your leg...it's not worth it man.

I love Vermont too even though I've never lived there, just visited. It's high housing costs, taxes and the price of heating oil discourages many. The winters don't bother me since I spent 10 of them in Ohio.

I was a military wife for 25 years and stationed in North Dakota Minot Air Force Base. We were there for about 7 or 8 years and the cold there was brutal you're not lying about that! But it wasn't horrible I don't think there's a saying in the military when people get orders. "Why not Minot? Freezing is the reason!?" Lol

I lived in Houston, TX for awhile after I had my second kiddo and the difference between the two places along with the environment for raising kids was completely opposite. Moved back and raised them in the same small town in the home between my dad and Grandparents. We did ended up then in Rock Springs when I married my current husband but wouldn't move away again

I don’t miss most of my home state of California, but I do miss the beaches and the mountains. At least here in Florida we have warm water most of the year to swim in. Alaska looks great in photos, buts it's the frontier. The only people I know that like Alaska are outdoor people, hunters, fishermen, convicts on the run. I've yet to meet a woman that likes Alaska.

The Military? I lived in Fairbanks AK for 4 years, when I was a child. Dad was stationed there by the Air Force @ Eilson AFB, but we lived on Ft. Wainwright (army). I started school there- from K-3! Winter was brutal. Started in October , didn't end until late April -early May. 5 hours of daylight- sunrise around 10am, sunset around 2.30-3pm! Lowest temp I recall - 40 below. By contrast, 23 hours of daylight in summer thanks to the midnight sun_ I hated the midnight sun; it would keep me awake... 'sunset' from 3-5am. Of course, you had to survive the mosquito swarms! Temps could get up to 95, but _ no humidity. June was spring, July and August was summer, September was fall; here we go again! I enjoyed our life there, but like I said, I was a kid.

Kentucky is too poor, unless you have money, you have a hard time living there. I know 3 couple who moved back because how poor their healthcare system is. It is also one of poorest.

@@rM-xk9ob ..The cost of living has always been cheaper here until the inflation happened. Where I live there's no groups of homeless people living on the streets in town. Families try to take care of their own. We were doing very well. Coal miners were finally getting the pay they deserved. The Obama-Biden administration got most of the mines shut down. You can holler about the fossil fuels all you want but this country can't go back to the stone age. I just read today about a billion dollars that's been doled out to different environmental groups that are wasting money. Not enough people want electric vehicles. Where are they going to be charged up at? When coal mining took the big hit, not only did miners get out of a job it made stores close. The miners such as some in my family would've worked another 6-8 yrs. As soon as their unemployment ran out they signed them up on disability.

I lived in Cumberland Gap for a couple of years. I was born in VA and lived in VA, KY, and TN a lot when I was younger. Cumberland Gap was a beautiful little town that had a place called the Iron Furnace that had a hiking trail beside it that led to a point where KY, VA, and TN meet. Well, I moved to a tiny rural town in Nebraska from the Atlanta area. The people are SO unfriendly, it smells horrible from feed lot and there's nothing to do here so they just constantly cause drama. It's like living in a trailer park and being stuck in an episode of Jerry Springer.

I bet you most if not all 🇺🇸Americans believe the world is OVER-CROWDED. even with no evidence of it. The planet now have low-birth rate because the USA keeps pushing that narrative in the U.N for 50 years.and in their own land its empty AF, Nobody is in Canada.

At least in SD (or ND) the snowstorm comes & goes in 36 hours, max. Then, brilliant sun and 45 degrees. Try Michigan, babe. An ugly slop storm that never clears, icy roads, and then overcast and 30 degrees for the next 4 weeks.

Obviously you have never lived in SD. There were many times we got our first snow before Halloween & that same snoe was still there come the spring thaw. Also I can't count yhe number of times the temp never got above zero for weeks at a time.

@@Somebody_i_used_2_know the thing about Montana winters is you definitely want to live West of the Continental Divide. I'm 30 miles from Glacier National park and although we get snow we don't get the extreme cold like they do East of the divide. Where is flat, windy and cold!! The coldest I've seen here is -44 without wind chill. But west of the divide isn't so bad. We will get a week or two of below zero temps but it's mild. Just long. Hence why alcoholism is a rather big problem and suicide rates. I hear some small mountain towns in Colorado also have higher sucide rates too. Meth which is everywhere is also a problem. Very minimal crime although that is changing. It used to be we had a murder every 10 yrs or so. That's changing. But to live in Western Montana one needs to be an outdoors person, be able to stand long winters, grizzlies in your yard, mountain lions occasionally, smaller towns and people, and one of the biggest things here for us locals.....be able to help one another in times of need. Ex: if your car broke down on the side of the road for instance. There will be several cars stopping and offering help. We are definitely people who help one another out. If your from California though....don't tell anyone. You will be drawn and quartered 🤣. Oh expect to make way less $$. ....and rent has increased but not crazy like a big city. I pay $550.00 for a 800 sq foot apartment with laundry and parking space. But that's rare. Biggest plus here.....NO WOKE CRAP AND VERY FEW PEOPLE!!!! 😏

Idaho basically has relatively few areas to be inhabitable. The area between the northern panhandle and the Boise region is essentially all rugged mountains and forest. I've only driven through once, but it's gorgeous. New Mexico's geography is determined a lot by water, or lack thereof. It's also another state that has rugged wilderness areas (more desert than forest) where no one is ever going to build big cities. But also amazing to visit.

Well, it's probably more like BLACKROCK gobbling up land there, as they have been all over the country, since they have to convert their huge digital fortune into tangible assets before the banks go belly up! This is a major contributor to the very real housing shortage and also goes with the 2030 agenda to eradicate homeownership so they can "stack and pack" everyone into the 200 sf coffin apartments that will fill the tiny population zones, as stated per their own spokespeople... So you should definitely enjoy your beautiful rural home now, while you can! That's what I would do. I have heard great things about that area, though never had the opportunity to visit in person.

Yeah I do not miss those blizzards. I grew up in Elk City, Idaho, where it dumps FEET of snow overnight. Was fun for kids, but a total wreck for all the adults.

Understood (TMI restrictions in effect). Our family lived in several states while I was growing up and fled up here mostly to escape humidity of Midwest. Well, and crowds. FEET of snow would be just too much! Was bummed to move to "semi-arid" but seems more than Front Range! That blizzard/snow dump 2 weeks ago is just part of EARTH weather but each time I think of the pioneers and homesteaders without accurate forecasts. Now you know to take some veterinarian courses, build a huge greenhouse, buy thousands of canning jars, put in radiant floor heating, dig a cellar pantry and build a above ground tunnels from house to barn, greenhouse, garage and wood storage shed. So you don't go goofy you need a separate building with tunnel access to a music, video and book library for the days you are snowed in.

You hit on some realities for sure: I ended up trying Joe Farmer with some big gardens (no tractors, etc) and was overwhelmed with produce. Embarrassing. I didn't really think about yields and this creek bottom soil grew acorn squash over 4 pounds. Sold 30%, gave away most that I couldn't blanch/freeze (corn). MUST DO CANNING! When in Glacier Park I watched the home of a big wheat farmer for a few weeks; wealthy guy and had this super radiant floor heating system. Holy hell, nice! Expensive and control room looked like a steamship but wonderful. NO GARAGE DAMMIT! Barn doors too narrow and is 1883 logs; landlord would kill me. Has to sit out with the weather and cattle abuse (rubs and licks). 2 months ago I was able to retrieve an actual book-paper library I amassed over years and sitting in Helena. Whole trailer but ok if power goes out. Tons of art supplies as a hack cartoonist and "painter". Internet helps, of course but like running into a person after a month alone. I NEED TO SHUT UP! Cheers! (I want those tunnels! And a greenhouse! Too bad my carpentry skill fizzles out past Popsicle oven mitts.)

I'm from ND, my sister lived in Stanley for about 5 years, I visited her there a couple timed, it is a pretty area, she's been back in ND for about 10 years now

Idaho is nice.

Northern Idaho yes, but southern Idaho sucks. It is crowded, hot and buggy. I know, I have lived there.@@dm4859

Great, but before you move here, vacation in Montana during January, February or early March.

My mom grew up in ND, left at 16 and only went back in mid summer to see her mom.

I’ll take a blizzard to a tornado or hurricane any day.

@bresev8958 , we get tornadoes too. Our tornado sirens go off at least 3 or 4 times each summer. Luckily it seems like most tornadoes stay far enough west of us. There are a couple areas that seem to get disproportionately hit by them for some reason.

But no where to live. Average home price is upwards of $500,000. That's not for luxury either. A small 2-3 bedroom at best

@@jamessmallwood8488 They didn't jack the real-estate. With no growth, real-estate will go down and homes will be abandoned. Happens in areas with no growth do to a combination of no jobs, high crime harsh weather and high taxes
