He's a great defender and deserves all the praise he gets, but you can't really feel bad for him for not being respected, considering it's completely his fault

John Terry is definitely one of the best CB in EPL history, But the controversies he has had got in his way. I believe without the controversies, He would've been one of the most inspirational defenders of all time considering how passionate he was for Chelsea & football in general.

Ryan Giggs and John Terry are unbelievable players but their legacy is complete ruined by their own actions.

It reminds me a little of F1 when Schumacher retired and Martin Brundle mentioned, maybe if he'd had a two fewer championships instead of the controversies and his behaviour towards other drivers then maybe people would remember him more fondly as one of the best drivers of all time. It's kind of an inverse halo effect.

He was the perfect defender for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea. He was one of the best defenders in the league, and arguably one of the best English centre halves of the premier league era. But by christ he is such a bellend off the field. I guess you could call him 'weak in character', but every team in England would have loved to have had him at the back in his prime. An absolute winner in DNA, but a very flawed character.

It’s baffling or rather unforgivable on things he did but he might be one of the finest and legendary captains in the PL history.

What amazes me is that with his rap sheet it never had a negative impact on his football. It really shows that he is a sociopath.

In his interview with Simon Jordan, he told a story about kicking young bench players out of first class or senior Chelsea players would not let the flight take off. It felt really entitled and kind of bully behaviour. His antics with Wayne Bridge and racist comments are just an add-on

I think the vitriol is a bit much to be honest. Some people definitely let their hatred influence their opinion on him as a player which is ridiculous.

I think part of it is the chelsea hate and the lack of vocal fans defending him. If he was a Liverpool or united player he'd have a much bigger backing that would deflect some of the arseholery

I always wondered why people hated JT so much so I watched this video thinking there might be something actually seriously harmful he did, like rape someone (Alves, etc), grooming (Adam Johnson), drug trifficking (Ronaldinho), gambling (Toney) or blackmail (Benzema). But the worst seems to be him being a bit of knob occasionally (mostly 20 years ago) and something about a consensual relationship with a former team mates ex-gf (that almost everyone talking about it seem to factually embellish and is kind of mysoganistic when you think about it).

People talk about Haaland benefiting from a system, I think JT really benefited from Jose tactics and Chelsea defensive structure in General. Forget world wide I think Ledely King at his best, Ferdinand, Sol Campbell were all better than him. Puyol, Stam , Maldini, Nesta, Thiago, Ayala, Vidic, Lucio, Ramos, Thuram.
