Thank you for speaking up about this important topic. It's high time we stopped sacrificing our health in order to accommodate the noise terrorists. Noise cancellation should become a central part of any building project and we need regulations which protect people's right to live without being constantly exposed to health-degrading levels of noise. As the speaker expressed it, it's most effective to regulate noise at the source, so that's obviously what we should do.

I’m an RN and I work in a major metropolitan level 1 trauma center/emergency department every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The amount of noise is staggering and comes in the form of constant telephones ringing, paging, monitor alarms, yelling/screaming/crying, ambulances, police officers, paranoid schizophrenics, vomiting, coughing, etc. The best therapy is to spend copious amounts of time on my mountain bike in the forest by myself, where I’m truly happy. I really hate noise.

One of my old bosses probably thinks the same thing ... I remember at one company I worked for, every Monday morning, 7 am, the work week on the factory floor would begin with the bells that start the AC DC album, Back in Black, followed by the album cover to cover. And I have no regrets. The CNC tabletop router I was operating was still louder than the music, and if I have to choose between the 2, I would take the AC DC any day of the week.

Music over a tannoy I agree with but I have noise cancelling headphones that I need for work. My line of work requires concentration and the right environment for it but they have us sat next to a very noisy call center area. I can have by headphones playing low volume music so as to block out the rabble from the call center.

To me it seems like the majority of people are becoming oblivious to unnecessary sounds. They don't seem to mind anymore. Mowing the law on sunday, loud phone calls in the office, bringing loudspeakers to the beach, construction sites that go on during the weekends. When I tried headphones in the office I was seen as strange and unreachable. This gave me stress as well as it feels bad to be frawned upon. It seems a change in cultural mindset is needed. But I do not have too much hope to be honest :). Have a great day everyone!

Loud behavior has become the norm. Not so long ago, they were considered rude, typical of people who were drunk or came from low social backgrounds. Now rowdy behavior is just everywhere. There is no way to free yourself from it. Regardless, I hope this changes because nothing lasts forever. More and more people will notice the damage noise does to their health and lives and will act against it.

One thing that was very interesting for me to learn is that at first, after living with background noise, it was very scary to be in full silence. I got anxiety a lot but tried to teach myself to do it anyway because I believe that spending certain amounts of time in a quiet spot each week is good for our health. It took me 2 and a half, actually almost 3 years, but now, for the most part, I crave silence as relaxation and tranquility, and when the noise goes off, like a power outage or we turn everything off, my body doesn’t get anxious anymore. It just calms down and I get so happy. I seek silence now. I think learning to relax and quiet down is a skill and an art in itself, and if we devote practice to it, we can get really good. And it will benefit our health!

Negligent people are the cause, sadly. Dogs managed by responsible people don't constantly bark all night or day. This is why I wish the USA had stronger regulations against this nonsense. All that neglect is cruel to the dog + everyone else. We need some form of licensing in place. By that, I mean that anyone wanting to get a dog should be required to get a dog license. You would have to pass a knowledge test and understand local regulations. I would go even further to require an annual vet check. It's too easy for anybody to get a dog. That harms the dogs + as I said, creates problems for everybody else.

please help raise awareness on the damage that dogs that bark incessantly can have on human health. im miserable because of being exposed to this for around three years. we need laws against this and we need owners who do nothing to stop it go to jail and lose their dogs. if they arent being trained to behave or being properly taken care of, they must go to someone who can provide the education and environment a dog needs to not destroy the health of neighbors. this cant be tolerated anymore. we need to talk about the types of noises that invade our houses. sometimes we just cant escape from the noise. thats the worst type of noise pollution. if its outside and its stay there, it wont affet those inside. so we have to talk about the ones that do affect us even inside our houses, that were supposed to be safe places from all of this noise.

This talk is so needed…as a professional location documentary sound recordist travelling the world for work the last 23 years I can attest to the high degree of noise pollution…but what’s more concerning is the mainstream acceptance of such levels of noise as “normal”…the level of noise humans create is way beyond what noise is made in the natural world so once again another example of how unconsciously out of balance we are with the natural order of the world. We need more talks like this and more awareness for the unconscious

The Philippines is very bad for loud uncontrolled noise especially in and around baranggays where inconsiderate people play extremely loud so called music nearly on a 24/7 time scale....this loud music accompanied with dogs barking non stop also.....children and elderly are deprived of their sleep and sanity.....this is all over the Philippines and I often wonder why there is no law against it.....as I know that this loud noise is and has caused a tremendous amount of hearing and learning problems amongst young children. Silence is golden.

Good timing of this video. After a year of bad sleep because my upstair neighbours had a baby and put it in the bedroom just above mine, therefore waking me up several times per night, I realised they were on vacation this week cause I didn't ear a sound for a few days. But I thought I was paranoid when I heard a new baby, different cry though. And then I put my ear on the wall, and yes, my neighbours (same street, other building, don't know how they look like, never heard them before) just had a baby. And there goes another year of sleep, probably gonna have a breakdown now, bye. #damnbabiesareloud

You can also develop symptoms of schizophrenia, ie. Hearing voices, as your auditory processing becomes confused from a lack of peace. Also, tinnitus. (I have had and still have both myself, and cat miaowing also doesn't help!.. Alarm systems seem to have little biological sensitivity these days too.) Apparently there is a reduction of dysbindin in specialised glia in the brain during auditory hallucinations so messages cannot transfer in the usual way. It makes sense as fatty acids in the brain become damaged from stress, affecting memory and concentration. If you take omega three supplements, and get enough rest (basic access to silence, with 8 hours sleep) and hydration, you can help your fatty acids repair, and your CNS cope with basic mental processing again.

I've had Tinnitus since I was a baby and I had to be accepted and go through a Special Class at the Local University, which is one of the best ones anywhere near where I live. In this Special class, they taught the few of us that were accepted into it (literally not even a dozen kids and teens were accepted!) We were taught to deal with our Tinnitus by using Sound! It IS still something I use to this day, because no matter what, if I'm not listening to something either by using music or the tv on I deal with such horrid Tinnitus that it makes me literally sick. So yes--- Some noise and music is actually okay! It all depends on how loud, or if you're deaf or mostly deaf, then by all means, enjoy it as loud as its needed to attempt to block out Tinnitus, because it's one thing not many people can handle at all. Most of the small Class at the University couldn't handle it sadly 😢😢😢 I can't blame them, but I miss them so much! They were amazing!!!!!

He is not saying anything that I do not already know. I suffer from a condition called misophonia. I already suffered from a heart attack in 2013 and I would say that part of what contributed to that was noise and lack of proper sleep. The suburbs where I have lived for 30 years has become almost as noisy as the city I grew up in. Much of this noise is from idiots who deliberately blast loud music in the their vehicles and have loud exhaust systems. Then there is the endless chorus of leaf blowers and the daily cascade of lawn services mowing lawns with huge industrial strength riding mowers. My desire is to move to an area where it is unlikely to developed, away from any main road, and with as few neighbors as possible. Nothing is ever going to be done about noise - nothing! The hospitals, doctors, and drugs companies don't want to protect people from heart disease because the make more money if people are sick and have high blood pressure. Think about it! I am a realist. There is a lot of money to be made off of unhealthy people so don't count on the medical practitioners to help create a healthy world. The best strategy is to get as far away from the general population which is what I hope to do.
@stopthenoiseglobal
@stopthenoiseglobal 2 месяца назад
I will also add that a society deafened by noise is attractive to every company that sells something. Noise makes it difficult to think rationally and make sensible decisions, which is why loud music is played in all shops, clubs and pubs. There are studies showing how much higher the turnover is if the place is so noisy that it is difficult to talk. Therefore, noise is very useful for entrepreneurs to get the highest possible profits from their business.

In México, people listen some genres of music like"banda","grupero" or "norteño" extremely loud at night (around 10:00pm - 3:00am). Very disrespecful and they even get mad if you ask them to turn the volume down.

That’s not necessarily a “bad” thing. It’s just very difficult for you, but people should be at liberty to enjoy simple pleasures. Albeit, preferably not at other people’s expense, which does happen unfortunately. From what I hear it sounds (puns not intended) like you’re not from Mexico. But from what I’ve heard this mentality is very common across Latin American cultures. I think it’s very reactionary because Latin American countries have many problems.

I am nearly deaf but can lipread fairly well. It does not take very long for me to become exhausted try to hold a conversation with a hearing person. After 5 or 10 minutes I have reached my limit and my brain just shuts down to sound and goes to a happier place. If there is any type of noise in the background the time limits are less. I am sure this is true of others like me.

Don't forget, you can intentionally use low-amplitude sources of noise to decrease the apparent volume jumps in unwanted sounds. It doesn't have to drown it out, and it can reduce the stressful effect of high-attack, high-amplitude (comparatively) noise. You can use music, or as many have suggested, your color choice of noise. I like music (no MC's and not a lot of lyrics) because the "watchtower" sense is muted to some degree. Rule of thumb: Just fill the space that you're in with a very-low conversational volume.

What about white noise machine's (or just a running box fan's) effect on your biological sleep patterns? I always sleep with them because I'm too sensitive to sounds so it helps drown things out so I can fixate my hearing on something monotonis and constant to help me fall asleep.

Couple of suggestions... Have your teeth/jaw alignment checked. A bite that isn't properly aligned or a jawbone slightly out of alignment can also increase/affect tinnitus. Also ask your dentist if he sees any indications that you're grinding your teeth in your sleep. Third suggestion - reduction in the amount of refined sugar in your diet might help, too.

@@WWZenaDo thanks for the tip. Actually, the doctor said something was off with my jaws so I went to see an orthodontist today and she said my lower jaw is smaller and shorter than the upper one - so I have to figure out what to do about it. I also noticed the ringing in my ears gets louder and higher in pitch when I open my mouth wide.

I also have tinnitus, have had it my whole life so I don't actually know what silence sounds like! I very recently went to the doctor and to my surprise my hearing's fine. I was so convinced I'd given myself tinnitus as a teen that I put off going for years. He talked about it being linked to anxiety and/or nerves misfiring, so t's not always because you've damaged your hearing. There's no cure though so that sucks. I also used to have a small jaw and the operation to make it the right size made my tinnitus worse.

Hi! You wrote your comment two years ago, I found it today. I hope you found a good solution, but I'll write the answer anyway, because maybe someone else will see it and it will be useful for them. The idea that comes to my mind is to contact foundations or associations that run various types of educational centers (e.g. regarding ecology, visiting historical places). They sometimes need staff on site at these centers and offer accommodation. Such centers are usually far from cities and you can experience peace there. Maybe working in such a place, along with living there, would be a solution for you.

I have long held the opinion that the amount of noise that anyone can bear undisturbed stands in inverse proportion to his mental capacity and therefore [can] be regarded as a pretty fair measure of it. Arthur Schopenhauer And there's the problem. Dumb people like noise. And when informed that others are bothered by their noise, they take all the more pleasure from tormenting said complainant. And dumb people greatly outnumber intelligent people.

My Channel was originally called "My Tinnitus Journal" it was my self induced therapy. I have severe tinnitus and severe hyperacusus, both hearing disorders. One evening my prayers were why is my life so shallow now because of these conditions,, I hated my conditions and the situation I came to see as my life with little mind activity. The next day after my therapist I was on the way to the acreage I was calling home, I stopped in the rural foothills of a on going mountainous range heading north. Well my stop gave me my answer to that prayer and it had me Earn the channel's new nickname as a Tracker of the forest Being's & my tales of the Bigfoot adventure started as "My 21 days with Bigfoot" just on this 15 acres of forest I plotted as the best study area & in turn about 24 days I realize many of the tracking marks I figured out to be linked in this family are in the new grounds I was looking into,, then another location just days later and my patterns of finding live locations of forest Being's is constant. I teach others to know the new found information. Ian Armstrong building relationships with Bigfoot aka Tinman Bigfoot Tracker Channel Canada BC British Columbia.
