Ma'am from one soldier to another. You have nothing to apologize for. We were soldiers and a soldier carries out orders, we don't make them. I am just happy to see that you now have a life worth living. Many soldiers around the world never got that chance. So Ma'am live and be happy😊 live and be happy for those soldiers around the world that never got a chance to😊 let that be your apology😊 Be well.😊

No, the US soldiers signed up for a fascist, imperialist military with thoughts of material, worldly gain and not of the innocent victims. US soldiers are dirt. We rejected the "Just following orders" defense at the Nuremburg trials. It doesn't wash.

Americans, for the most part, just want the rest of the world to be able to live peacefully and prosperously, with the same rights we enjoy. There are some bad apples who hate other nationalities, but usually our criticism is aimed at governments and the very real suffering caused by them, not the ordinary people from thpse places. Such an enjoyable video. The one critique that I unfortunately agree with are the conditions of many of our mass transit systems. "Dirty and in disrepair" seem to be a commonly encountered description of these systems in major cities such as NYC. However, I also wholeheartedly agree with the open kindness of Americans. I see videos from other countries often on RU-vid where the victim of an accident (a fall, vehicle strike, etc) are bypassed by other pedestrians and wonder why the heck they aren't stopping to help. In the States, all the witnesses of an accident with injury would be tripping over themselves to help that person. All nations have their strengths and weaknesses, the US included. Thanks again for the video!

Too many Americans have a very distorted view of hardship and don't acknowledge the fact that even our poorest citizens live like kings compared to 90% of the globe. My dad's been to South Korea, while he served the USN (he did 10 years though and has been everywhere) but that was in the late 1960s and 1970s, so I don't think South Korea is the same today as it was in the 1970s? Your video made me both smile and be sad. I was in S. Korea in the US military, and found the S. Korean people wonderful, I loved their respect and kindness to me as a foreigner living in their land. I know how advanced and prosperous S. Korea is in comparison to the North Korean people. I felt like the N. Koreans are living in a concentration camp where they are not allowed to know much beyond their own culture and what they are told. The North has so much potential, but the Kim regime will never let them fulfill what they could be. Have you read George Orwell's 1984? That is what imagine it's like to live there. Fear and Paranoia are the standards. If unification should ever happen the rest of the world will have to spend time on a whole country trying to help them overcome the trauma it has been living with for decades, almost a hundred years. That's a long time to have therapy as a nation. As a gay man, I can only imagine the horrors that my people in your country have gone thru. The Kim family, that we so hoped would be better because the current leader who was educated in Switzerland and other places, who knew better, would be a way out. It seems like that is a lost hope. Between Kim Jung Un and when he dies, let it be soon, his sister, the people are just going to have to be the ones to kick them out. But do they even know anything beyond Un? That there is hope, literally just beyond the border? No they don't. The Kims don't want them to know. The only other alternative is to wait for a conflict that no one wants but will be over quickly, or to wait for the inevitable collapse of a country that will take a long time and be worse for the people living there. There are no happy options unless the people themselves will rise up and say, "Enough." This is the essence of a democracy - for the people to know that the rulers rule only at the tolerance and forbearance of the ruled. It's what keeps dictators up at night, afraid, their sleep troubled, and their fists closed tight. I hope your words find a way into the Hermit Kingdom.

Tipping is not about the food well unless your server got your order incorrect like multiple times then that means he or she simply is not doing the job correctly. But tipping is ment to positively reinforce good service because waiters and waitresses notoriously get paid horrendously low wages. So an easy way to figure out the appropriate amount you should tip is start with 10% so say the bill is 45.00 you simply move the decimal one place to the left and you have 10% that is 4.50 now if you want to be generous like if its a holiday or if you are on a date or having a large gathering you could double the tip to 20% which would turn that 4.50 into 9.00 which to make it easy you could just give the waitresses/waiter a $10. On the other hand say the server was very neglectful of your table and got several items incorrect and you had to ask for things like refills of water, bread, salad, or the bill at the end rather then him or her paying attention you could deduct as much as you feel appropriate or not give a tip at all if the situation calls for it. Tho no tip is an extremely rare instance. Hope that clears up confusion for anyone wondering.

Having grown up in the USA I have never struggled at this level where you need to actually escape. I did have 2 foster brothers back in the 80's that escaped Vietnam through Cambodia, which was an unbelievably, amazing, heroic, fearful, evil and abusive trip to finally find a foster home in Madison, WI. Can you even imagine a child being forced to escape without his family in hopes that he will survive the journey to the US so he can earn money to send back home. One day humanity will have to come together in the realization that we are all brothers and sisters. Solving our problems with war is not the answer ever. This is a great example of us creating prejudice simply because we don’t know how the others truly live, and at some point humanity has to come together to solve all of humanities, tough problems poverty homelessness, and starvation will be eradicated. God bless this world and god bless all who have fought for the freedoms that every human should have. ❤❤

There's an Old American TV show that is comedy medical drama, and it's called M.A.S.H. - 4077. It's an American TV show that showed the chaos from the American side of the Korean war where American DOCTORS TRY TO STOP THE WAR IN THEIR OWN SPECIAL WAYS!!! I think it would be incredibly interesting to see ALL THE D.P.R.K. Perspective on this entire series!!! I hope that it can be translated into N.K. Language so they can understand what is going on!!! But I would love to see everyone's reactions on this CLASSIC AMERICAN TELEVISION SHOW!

I grew up watching re-runs of MASH, it's such a quality show. Just regular people trying to deal with the horrors of a war that they didn't choose. It's where I first learned about kimchi! As an American I know that we do have many problems here, we're far from perfect. But when you see the struggles of people from some other countries, it makes me so glad to be born here.

I'm not at all sure M.A.S.H. would translate well. The practical jokes, the biting humor/sarcasm, and particularly the blurring of the distinctions between the differing military ranks, such as the familiarity between Radar and his superior officers might be incomprehensible.

Well goodness, when you said "an Old American TV" my brain went into like '60s ara TV... And then you say M.A.S.H. I refuse to believe it's really that old.

I love what these people had to say and that they are free to do what they please. It is heartening to hear how their lives have improved since leaving North Korea. It is hard to read the subtitles so quickly though, some are up for a longer time than others and I am not a speed reader lol

Tipping is not "required", I don't care what people say. I give a good tip for good service and a bad or no tip for bad service. I don't get a tip where I work, no matter how good a job I do.

It is sad, that such people with passion for cooperation and peace and with ability to change their views, if evidence proves them false, are not leaders of North Korea. And even if the dictatorship falls, it will be very dificult to handle the contrast between propaganda and reality for many of North Koreans. Every single person who can run away and also helps others to understand, how precious our democracy ist (not just american type), has my appreciation.

I appreciate that the first woman wore her DPRK military uniform for the interview. She served her country, and that's to be respected even if her country is currently hostile to... well most of the rest of the world really, though obviously with a special hate for America. She should be proud to serve her people, and it's truly tragic that her country is in such a toxic state that she had to defect - not for ideals, initially, but simply for survival.

Interesting characters... the one hoping for reincarnation, the most fun for me. They seemed sincere. They seemed to have generally good experiences with Americans they met. I hope things work out for them. The mother who sent her young daughter across the world in hope for a better future is something else. That's a lot of trust in foreigners and foreign governments.

I would love to have the opportunity to sit down and talk with a North Korean person freely, without them being in fear. We could have dinner. We're all just people, why not be friends? I have huge respect for these ladies, what they went through, and how they improved their lives.
