I used this video and I was accepted on a full ride to NYU. I am now attending and I absolutely love it here. I just wanted to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Class of 2026
Sorry If I ask, but I'm from italy so I don't quite understand what you mean by "2025 class". Does it mean you are gonna start college in 2025 or that you're going to finish your studies in 2025?
Hey Dr. Josie, I just got accepted into NYU yesterday!!! I remembered how helpful your videos on the supplement essay were for my essay and I just wanted to come back here to say thank you for the detailed help in the video!
Why are you the most altruistic person I've ever met on social media? You are doing so much for such NYU applicants like me! Thank very much for the video! You inspired me and gave me confidence
You made my day! Thanks for watching and please please take a screen shot of my channel and share it on social media so that we can reach more students! Good luck!! Next week I share an accepted NYU student essay. This video was soooo helpful. As an international student from India I have faced quite some struggle to get on board with the educational scenario in the USA and especially these essays which aren't much needed in indian institutions and i personally have no idea on how to draft one. This guide was so helpful. Lots of love and wish you huge success. Hopefully i get into NYU. If you're reading please pray 😊💗
YES! Exactly. Follow the research steps for any school and you'll gather the right info, showing you differences in school culture and vibe, courses and projects...you'll do great. Good luck!
That's amazing!! Congrats! Please take a screenshot of my channel or this video and share it out to fellow students who will be applying soon. I appreciate it when students spread the word. Good luck!!
This is the best help I've got... Also, I suggest that you get a computer with more ram (16 GB or more) if you are planning to make videos and open this amount of tabs in chrome. Tip: Press CTRL + Shift + Esc to see RAM usage.
hi! I just wanted to tell you that I used this video to do my Why NYU and I got in for the class of 2026! 💜 although I probably won't be going (didn't get any scholarships) thank you very much for your help! edit: I committed to NYU! They ended up giving me a full-tuition scholarship!!!! 🤩

When I'm writing an essay or a "Why this college essay" to be specific, my transitions from one paragraph to the other are quite abrupt. I'm talking about the wonderful academic opportunities in one para and then community service in the next due to the concise word limit. Can give some tips on how to improve my transition, considering the meagre word limit some colleges offer.
I hear you yes that can be an issue. You want to use transitional topic sentences that cue the shift if possible. Something like - When I am not pursuing engineering in (name is building) you can find me at (name of student org) where I’d focus on (xyz whatever they do). Then go more into detail... Another example is something like - Since a Michigan education is about academic excellence and community leadership, I am also interested in (and then you go into service in this paragraph) Hope this helps!
I don't think you should be involved on the school's social media to show interest. None of them give a crap. They have a few minutes to read your application, they aren't going to be searching for your comment in a social media post.
HI Jolly Holly. Thank you for your comment. Going on the social media is less for them to see you there and more for you to learn about their vibe, social culture and possibly mention something you see there. For sure, they are not checking whether you liked a post. Good luck!
Hi Dr Josie! I’m an international student planning to apply ED II to NYU’s NYC campus. Could you share some tips for the “Why NYU?” essay for NYU Stern specifically? I’m a bit lost :(
Hi Rachelle, thanks for watching. OOOH the Stern website is great. Here are some links on info I would consider for your essay. www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admissions/undergraduate/why-stern maybe mention a professor and their work and connect it back to you - www.stern.nyu.edu/experience-stern/faculty-research as an international student why this program with its international scope would be so enriching - www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admissions/undergraduate/international-experiences you essentially have like 5 majors to choose from, which one and perhaps a course - www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admissions/undergraduate/academics don't forget to make it unique to you...good luck!
Thank you for this it seems to be a very helpful video. I’m yet to start writing my essay as I will be applying next year for the class of 2026. NYU is my first priority school, so just wondering once I have completed my essay would it be possible to receive some feedback from you?
Hi! I'm so grateful for this video. I applied for undergrad to Steinhardt my senior year of high school and didn't get in. I'm now trying again as a transfer student. Do you have any advice for transfers? Is it appropriate to mention I didn't get in before, but have worked hard to be a strong transfer applicant since?
Hi thanks for watching. You should definitely watch my transfer video. It’ll be helpful. I wouldn’t mention not getting in - in the essay. They’ll probably know that or you’ll have a place in the app where they ask. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OmFFa0vfaF8.htmlsi=KYuB7oqgB5c-m3Ou Good luck!
Don't know why I am watching this considering that I am a NYU student (class of 2021). Obviously, I didn't see this video before I applied and while I hit a couple of key points mentioned in the video was I missed quite a lot!! But if anyone has any questions feel free to let me know. I know what it's like to not be able to pay for private college prep and having to rely on RU-vid videos and forums for advice.
Hi Dr. Josie, Rijma khan here. This video is incredibly helpful! NYU Abu Dhabi has always been my dream place to start my PhD. Could you kindly assist me with the essay for the Biology section?
Hi Rijma so glad it was helpful! I’m focused on med school applicants at the moment but if you have any general questions you’d like to ask here, happy to respond!
Hey! I am applying from the UK to NYU and a few other universities for grad school. Our application process is quite a lot different, so do these tips for essays apply for the grad school essay also? Thanks!
Hi, I don't think the prompt the same. Correct? For graduate school, usually it is program specific, you explain what you want to accomplish, who you aspire to work with there...so if you like to share the prompt I can give you more details.
Hello, I was rejected into Rice, I got a Loyola acceptance with the same essay. Maybe was just my gpa, or that I choose business and it was too much demand, do you think if I choose economics for NYU will be better? Or there is a strategy to get in with a low demanded career and later transfer? I will follow your advice now for my next 5 applications. Thank you for all your help.
First congrats on your Loyola acceptance!! Your question is a tricky one. NYU is incredibly competitive for most majors, yes I imagine some harder to get into than others but I do believe it is a holistic review of all aspects of your application.
Thanks for this really helpful video As I understood, we can just copy paste and send essay, without any other paragraphs? I mean Is it necessary to write essay by your own words? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks for watching. No not at all. Do not do that. This is meant to be an example of one student’s essay. Your essay should be completely different, filled with NYU related details that are specific to you. You this as a guide as to what you should research for your self. Good luck.
Im a high school student, Im Dominican living in California and I want to apply to NYU (New York Campus) but my question is should I apply if I have a 3.13 GPA? I’ve took 2 college classes and I passed both with A, I also took AP Spanish and I passed the final quiz with a 5 (maximum score)
Hi Enrique, thanks for watching. I would say that any one factor should not decide for you...so if you want to apply go for it...just make sure you have a really strong essay and why NYU essay that you can show leadership and community service etc...but most compelling that you share your story. Also think about developing a varied school list...so a few highly competitive schools like NYU, a few more with higher acceptance rates and some that your stats match with etc. good luck!
I don’t but here are some links I would gather information from!!! You should mention a course/ professor but then maybe a story from their magazine which is really great!!! Then other interests...hope this helps. nursing.nyu.edu/sites/default/files/2020-05/NYU%20Meyers%20SP20.pdf Global initiatives nursing.nyu.edu/global-initiatives Pick a research project you’d be interested in participating - nursing.nyu.edu/research
This video is really helpful! Thank you! Though, I'm kinda confused on how you incorporate the homepage news into the essay. Should the headline/news relate to my major? I just don't get on how to start the essay with a news piece from the website. Also, what do I say for the major part/learning in the classroom section if i'm applying undecided to the college of Arts and Sciences?
Anthony Uriarte so a couple of choices to make. If you are applying undecided then you want to articulate why them specifically?? Is it their students organizations, networking, ethos...what is it that draws you to them behind name brand and add details about them to support it. The opening website idea is just one idea, you can always start with a personal connection to the school. Good luck!

I know this may not be good enough for NYU, but a sparkling essay can help me get into my dream university. Seeing lots of videos about essays resulted in so much confusion that I don't know how to summarise my thoughts within a few hundred words. Hi Dr. Josie! This is so helpful, you are the most altruistic person on RU-vid! I will be applying yo NYU by Regular Decision to the College of Arts and Science to the International Relations major. Could I sent you my Why NYU essay through email so you could take a look at it? Thank you 😊
Can we use some information about NYU Abu Dhabi that you mentioned in the video. Or is that something inappropriate? Also, can we start the essay with an anecdote. Essay due tomorrow zzz
I wouldn't. 1. I really didn't go into Abu Dhabi's program...just mentioned the campus and how NYU has a high number of international students and students studying away. I would mention anything that speaks to you and your candidacy specifically.
Hi NYU's nursing is great!! I would check out these nursing specific sites to see what you could connect your story with - @t @t @t They also have a magazine which you could reference. good luck!
I'm currently working on this essay as I am applying to NYU as a transfer student. I would love to speak with you or dive into your content more. Thank you for your help and for being here for us !
@@shukrat5293 if you are still struggling with it, maybe leave the intro to the end and see if you added anything personal, unique about yourself throughout. if you didn't maybe that can be your beginning. good luck!
When many people watch a video and write similar points dont you think NYU's decision making will change cause it will feel like when everybody is the same level the other eassays will stand out more
That's a great question...however, there are so many majors, student orgs, research opportunities and volunteer/ cultural experiences available to choose from that if you are truly thinking and researching what makes NYU a good fit for you PLUS adding your own style of writing, every essay is different. Are you applying or did you apply this cycle?
First thing I would ask is what you talked about in your main essay. Was it about engineering or about your cultural background…any main theme about who you are or your interests that you didn’t touch on there I would use to start this essay and then connect that to a broader theme of their mission or your reasons for wanting to attend mit. Then go into you why us research, sharing person points as you go. Good luck

I'm apply as an undergraduate student in Meyers college of nursing NYU they asking me to choose between Global health nursing and nursing. Which one to choose and what is the difference between them?
Here's what global health/ nursing is - The Global Public Health/Nursing combined major merges the longstanding excellence in nursing education at NYU with an in-depth perspective on public health approaches. The major aligns with our mission of continuous progress in scholarly excellence and in innovations that advance humane and quality healthcare for all people. Students will study a variety of topics and will also work closely with an advisor to select the right mix of electives to complement individual interests and career paths. Global Public Health/Nursing graduates will be well-prepared for exciting careers in a variety of settings, including community and governmental organizations, clinical healthcare settings, and educational/research institutions. Students who complete the Global Public Health/Nursing degree will complete all the same nursing major courses and clinical hours as in the existing state-approved nursing major at NYU. Hope this helps.

if I met with an NYU professor, do you think it's important to quote what he said in the essay? Should I tell them to contact him for further reference?

Will this not sound like I'm just regurgitating information from their site? Or is that what they are looking for? I Don't want to see m like I just dove into their site and pulled things to throw into my essay, but I also don't know what they want ):
So first of all there is way too much content on their website for you to regurgitate everything back to them...so it is as important what you mention to how you make a connection to it. You should watch my latest why us video because I have updated how I see this essay work best. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TnF7UDNcHJU.html You want to think about picking aspects of the academic, cultural, and social dimensions of the school that you would best take advantage of because you have interest in them, because you culturally connect to them and/ or because you have been doing similar kind of work already and would deepen your commitment while a student at NYU. The wrong mindset is to think about what 'they want' the better mindset is to think about how you can make the strongest case for you fitting in at NYU...and then pick resources, 'evidence' from their website and other places like IG, connecting with students etc...good luck!

[middle] hereto can do 1-2 experiences within the field. going into graduate school for a discipline is a very big commitment and super different than undergrad so any research or big projects anything that you dig to go beyond the min requirements would be of interest...keep this within your chosen field or if it is somewhat connected then toward the end reflect how it is strengthening your candidacy **this could be a couple paragraphs. First thing to cut are extra words, especially long verb phrases you don't really need. something like - I would have to honor to take a course with Professor ... becomes Taking [name of course] with Professor... / any of theses phrases - in order to...usually you can just go with to...take out ideas that would compliment any/ all universities and prioritize ideas that are NYU specific. So all schools value diversity, will offer academic rigor and excellent faculty...all schools will offer you the opportunity to grow as an individual, meet new people, learn new skills...see see which lines really aren't about NYU and more about the general college experience. some of those can go. good luck!
