It was stated that Hashirama's cells can indeed boost and regerate Dojutsus, for example : Itachi stated that coldown of kotoamatsukami from Shisui can be removed if one implant Hashirama cells

Since Sharingan and wood style are abilities that passed through generations thanks to Hagoromo's sons, I think that when these are combined you get an ideal Mangekyou Sharingan even before the Rinnegan.

Obito literally had an amazon warehouse of Sharingan including some of the top officers. We know Itachi's father had the Mangekyo, Madara had the Rinnegan, so its highly probably that some had it as well that were not listed while he was boosted by hashirama cells via madara and the Gedo Statue.

I also believe susano plays a factor as well. All the others who started losing their sight used the susano but obito did not have access to his. I think developing your susano drains your light a lot faster compared to the other abilities.

Another thing to note about Itachi is that it might be possible he gone blind during the fight or before it, and was just so badass nobody noticed.

Kakashi once said: "Gaining six paths power enhances one's ocular powers too", and Obito has Uchiha powers + Senju powers which kinda create the six paths power.

I've always had a headcannon that the blindness amount is different based on if the user has a genjutsu or a ninjutsu like ability since Shisui and Itachi had the ms for a long time while Sasuke who really only used it twice lost a bunch of light and Kakashi who didn't use it that much lost a bunch of light as well

Here’s an important question can the Uchiha turn one eye on at a time if so couldn’t that be used to mitigate the blindness. At worst it could slow it down and being blind in one eye is a whole lot better than being totally blind.

You have to keep in mind that sasuke wasn’t just spamming his sharingan but he was using susanoo almost the whole time he used it up until practically going blind so my best guess is that the susanoo causes blindness way quicker than any other use

The Sharingan is the eye that reflect the Heart. As evident with Sasuke, hate can accelerate the Susanoo's development. Also, as his hate grew and embraced the darkness, Sasuke kept losing the light of his eyes. Hence. I think the Susanoo is the culprit for Sasuke's accelerated blindess. As the darkness in his heart grew, the light in his eyes disappeared.

I feel like going blind has more to do with spamming the mangekyo a lot in a short amount of time, sure eventually it would have gone blind even if it isn't spammed, but using it a lot on a short time would accelerate it

I Think its the susano'o that takes the heaviest toll on the eyes. Don't get me wrong, Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu are definitely heavy abilities, but considering the nature of the Susano'o requires using it to progress it and unlock its full body form I'm willing to wager a good measurement of whether an uchiha is going blind is how far their Susano'o has progressed.

Maybe MS Madara and Izuna were built different. Maybe because they were from the Uchiha main family they were stronger than most and thus their eye sight deteriorated at a slower rate.

An explanation for Madara might be that he never really used his mangekyo ability, we don’t even know what it is cause he never used it on screen or was even implied to have used it EVER. Kind of a stupid reason but maybe that’s why he never went blind, just kept it active for his perception but never used the ability

An Idea I have is that Obito is already blind and just uses chakra sensing to see.

Kakashi spammed MS more than Itachi and Sasuke despite him not being an Uchiha. During the Zabuza arc Kakashi says that he has less chakra than Naruto but, twice as much as a typical jonin. I'd wager that many of the Leaf's most powerful (non-dojutsu) shinobi have a little Senju blood thru early alliances. The only known Senju marriages/engagements are Hashirama's and Tsunade's. We know the Senju's married into other clans. 1. Kakashi's dad being more powerful than the Sannin 2. Minato and Jiraiya being natural sage mode users without body mods 3. Danzo and Yamato having the rare ability to survive Hashirama cell implants 4. Hiruzen having every chakra nature (a Rikudo ability according to Jiraiya) Also, Konohamaru's female teammate (Moegi) is a natural mokuton user. Her name means "young tree" and she was placed in a squad with a Hokage descendant. Her potential was understood at a young age and she's proof that other families/clans have Ashura's bloodline. Nagato is proof other villages have some too.

He never went blind simply because he's half godtree Senju. Another reason why his MS didn't transform into Rinnegan is because he's missing his other eye and isn't quite Indra's lineage.

The non eternal Mankekeyo really sucks. Forget lasting the rest of your life, if you're always getting into fights then you're probably going blind in a year or less.

I feel like Obito bringing up how, thanks to his Hashirama cells, he has better control of his eye compared to Kakashi in their battle over the gedo statue would have been a great way to both explain his over usage of it, as well as adding stakes to Kakashi using it, as he would only have one chance to destroy it as overusing his eye could cause damage. Little tweaks like that throughout the war arc could have taken it from good to top tier.

Doesn’t susano have a major effect on the eyes? The more you use it (in conjunction with the other eye abilities) the faster the eyes lose their light. Obito never used the susano so maybe he had some leeway…….also hashirama cells

I just assumed everyone’s eyes can recover slowly if you rest them. But if you overuse your eyes in a short period then there’s a point of no return where you go completely blind. I think Kakashi demonstrates this but he’s not an Uchiha. Also I think having better chakra lessens the impact of using MS hence Hashirama cells help cuz of healing.

Wasnt Obito fused to a white zetsu? And zetsus have a regenerative healing factor so it's because of zetsu why he never went blind.

we did also see him have that massive collection of sharingan, It might be possible he's using izanagi on his left eye to restore vision in his right eye. It might explain why he has a left sharingan implanted but never uses it directly in combat outside of the battle with konan.

Things I would say to go with this is that the Hashirama cells that were put on to Obito aren't just plain Hashirama DNA. Madara said he cultured the cells and made clones of it - presumably using the Gedo Statue's immense life-force chakra that was even able to keep Madara from succumbing to death for many, many years. Obito essentially had a rinnegan, except it wasn't an actual rinnegan because he didn't have direct Hagoromo chakra attached to him like Sasuke, Naruto, or even Madara at the time he awakened the rinnegan. They say it is simply hashirama cells, but I think there is more to it with the ones Madara put in Obito. Also Black Zetsu being attached can also be important as he was needed to convert Juubidara's chakra into actual Kaguya. There are actually a lot of differences between Obito's circumstance and every other character shown. As for Itachi's time before blindness vs Sasuke I think there is a slight healing factor involved base on the total chakra usage of a person. Itachi really didn't use much chakra when fighting people since he could flee easily, use other jutsu, or had a kage level threat teammate who could shoulder some of the effort. Same for Madara as in those flashbacks it shows him using the powerful jutsu he mastered and taijutsu and kenjutsu against Hashirama. They were not really just straight spamming Buddah's and Perfect Susanoo's. They had a passion for testing their jutsu out and of course Madara has way more latent chakra than Sasuke or Itachi.

The part when Danzo said it’s been a long time since he’s seen Amaterasu…I always thought he was possibly referring to Fugaku…Sasuke and itachi’s father. Since we know Fugaku also possessed the Mangekyou Sharingan. And it wouldn’t be far fetched to consider family obtains similar abilities considering sasuke gained Amaterasu after itachi

There's a lot of factors to consider. Like another commenter mentioned before, I think the susanoo use if the biggest one. Susanoo was what put Itachi over the edge after years of mangekyo use. Sasuke used susanoo kind've an insane amount during the kage summit. Madara undoubtedly used suasno a lot before going blind during the warring states period. Next, the other difference with Obito is that he only has one mangekyo. It's possible that only having one causes the eye to not deplete as quickly. It's also possible that certain jutsus deplete the eye quicker than others. The kamui that Obito uses to make himself intangible or teleport himself might use a lot less chakra than the kamui that Kakashi uses, since it could take extra chakra to actually project the long range kamui. This is further backed up by it being heavily implied that amaterasu takes a lot more chara than tsukuyomi, since amaterasu is clear has a much larger impact on Itachi when he uses it vs tsukuyomi. And we know for a fact that, at least to some degree, some mangekyo abilities are more taxing than others, since kotoamatsukami could only be used once every 10 years. Especially with intangilibty, I can't imagine it takes nearly as much chakra as self-teleportation. The heierarchy might go something like: kamui intangibility < short range kamui < kagutsuchi < long range kamui < tsukuyomi < amaterasu < kotoamatsukami < suasnoo. Finally....Hashirama cells. I absolutely agree that it's a dumb power up. But that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. After all, logically, why would implanting your brother's eyes in your head automatically give you access to the insanely powerful EMS. A lot of things in Naruto don't make logical sense because it's a fictional magic system. So ultimately, all that matters is if things make sense within the rules that the magic system sets forth. And time and again, we do see that Hashirama cells change the game. They allow Madara to develop the Rinnegan. They allow Danzo to use kotoamatsukami once a DAY rather than once every TEN YEARS (like....holy fuck, that's the most unbelievable one). After all that, it's honestly totally logical that the cells would allow Obito to spam kamui without going blind. Hashirama is even renowned for his superhuman healing ability. Overall, it's a perfect storm of factors. He has Hashirama cells, doesn't ever use susanoo, only has one mangekyo rather than two, and short range kamui probably isn't inherently as chakra taxing as other mangekyo abilities. All these factors come together to create the ideal situation for Obito, which is probably why he always uses kamui. It's a nigh-infinite resource, so he might as well. I definitely agree that Obito using only kamui 99% of the time and Hashirama cells fixing literally everything aren't great plot points....but they are plot points that make logical sense within the magic system.

Honestly I think it's a combination of things, the fact he had hashirama cells, the fact he never used susanoo and the fact that most of the time he only used it on small parts of his body rather then his whole body every time.

He should've been blind long ago but without Kamui, he will get wreck.

My theory is that it is because of Kakashi

Madara explained Obito's surviving because he was "phasing through the rock".. and it was BEFORE awakening MS. From that, I always assumed it was a part of his base sharingan rather than his MS. To me, it seems that base sharingans can have more abilities related to the user's (future) MS to some extent. And that's what Obito was using this whole time rather than his MS, which can be confirmed by the fact that no shinobi that faced Obito stated a change in his sharingan whenever he was "phasing" But when Itachi/Madara/Sasuke/Kakashi used MS, everyone was stating it! Though, these are not confirmed and only my assumptions ^^

I think part of this chalks up to how much the ms is used in a span of time, maybe Sasuke went blind so fast because of how much he used it right off the bat and relied on it, it's possible using it occasionally and not a lot at a time could mitigate the blindness effect

I think its because he implanted an eye from the Uchiha massacre. I remember he had tons of it in glasses. I think it wasnt stated that you need eyes from someone you have a connection to only that you need the eyes of someone with the ms. So basically he has an EMS.

It's said in the series that to use the Susano-o and to get the later versions of it you need to practice using it to basically lvl it up. This then means Itachi had been using his Susano-o through out the years to level it up. This also explains why the MS users we know of have only used up to the armored Susano-o because the amount of training required to level it up to that point is too taxing to go any further. Also we know that he knew how to use the Totsuka blade and Yata mirror meaning he had to have used them at least once before fighting Sasuke.

I see a lot of people saying Hashirama cells and while this is a good answer, there is two others Obito has Sage of 6 Powers which this alone can explain 2 plot holes. No blindness, and the fact that Obito doesn’t need MS to use Kamui Another answer is just the fact that Obito has a stock pile of eyes to pop in and out

The right question is: Why does getting ur siblings eyes make it só you cant be blind anymore? Does the etwrnal magenkyu stop damaging the eyes? And how would that make any sense? They are just as powerful and get allow you to spam Susano non-stop.

Hashirama was born with a special ability. The ability of broken regeneration. And also a huge chakra reserve With Sage mode he actually rivaled a full nine tales, which is just broken. So I believe that as soon as Obito damages his eye, Hashirama cells just regenerated it. It is stated that the more Hashi cells you have, the more you benefit from them. It is a stupid trope, but it is atleast an answer to these questions. An in universe one at that and many shows don't bother to even do that, so I am grateful that we got one in Naruto, even though it is a stupid one.

Maybe it's also an inherent characteristic of kamui, together with the hashirama cells boost. If you think about it, kamui is actually pretty weak, on a per use basis. If Obito could use kamui in the same amounts as sasuke's mangekyo it would be a pretty underwhelming ability, it would be like, dodge 5 attacks, get blind. What makes kamui strong is how spammable is it, maybe that's why it makes you blind slower. Even kakashi used his eye plenty of times before going blind, but he didnt had hashirama cells.

Obito also had a vault of replacement eyes that would have made Danzo orgasm. Everyone seems to forget that he had all the eyes from everyone he killed during the massacre. He even used Izanagi on konan which he replaced the eye with another.

I think it depends on a number of factors. 1. The strength of the wielder. 2. Their ability to recover. (Youth, vitality, etc) 3. How much they use it. 4. The amount of time they go between uses. If a wielder has a strong body, like Madara, it might take a fair bit more amount of time, but then again, even against Hashirama, Madara might limit usage of it for bigger attacks. And because he's one of the strongest in the world. It's likely he only needed it in certain situations at the time. I also believe that, as long as they're not using it too much and too frequently, giving their bodies a chance to rest between uses, the blindness effect is likely very diminished too, as it's possible they might be able to recover a bit when they use it. Even if it's not a lot. It's why limited usage, although they may still go blind, will likely reduce how fast they go blind. Where as, Sasuke basically went on a spamming spree, barely giving himself time to rest between uses. Itachi gave himself time to rest and likely only used it every so often, and once. Based off of the line he said when he escaped from Jiraiya. Also, each jutsu likely also has a different level in which the user goes blind depending on usage. Tsukiyomi likely was the one that didn't cause as much blindness, but, Amaterasu did more damage. As you can tell by the bleeding.

I mean it would make sense, if hashirama’s cells grant a healing factor, it could be a sort of Deadpool scenario where They repair his MS faster than the abilities can damage them.

well i just started watching the video and i'm like "yeah obito never went blind probably because he had hasirama cells" and then my brain activated and now i am wondering why obito didn't evolve his sharingan into a rinnegan since madara got his rinnegans by implanting hasirama cell and thus reuniting uchiha and senju cells and recreting the sage of 6 path chakra. So since obito is an uchiha and got half of his body made of hashirama cells how come he never got his own rinnegan ?

You know i was thinking about it and i came to realize obito always had a second eye that was a non mangekyou and later a rinnegan and i think he did go blind but only in his right eye.

Donzo was alive when the uchiha clan was in full effect. He probably seen Amaterasu quite a bit. Being that he fought in a whole war right next to a uchiha clan member. With other members on his side as well. That is probably how he developed his fear of them in combination with the second homage’s teachings.

another possible reason is that he has a warehouse full of uchiha eyes. he could be switching them every day. awakening the mangekyo is in the brain, not in the eye, so i suppose he could awaken them the moment he puts them on

I honestly never thought about the hashirama cells by passing the fading of light. it makes sense though.

In my headcanon the blinding from the ms healed over time but never completly. Every time it's used the user get's blinded but get's a big part of the light back over time. The amount of light that comes back becomes smaler over time until it's completly gone
