In my family on Christmas Day, we always read the birth of Jesus in the Bible and then we listen to Classic Christmas music, and then we open the presents and eat breakfast together.

Love this! My 5 year old middle son literally says Santa is a bad guy bc we let him know that Santa takes away from Jesus. We are not about lying to our children about Santa or the easter bunny bc there is no reason to cover the wonderful things about JESUS with fictional characters. I too have family (even Christian family) that gets very upset about this, but we feel very strongly about not lying to our children and to not take away from Jesus.

I never thought about it before Watching you video from 2-3years ago about this topic. My sister once worked in a shop and one of her colleagues who happened to be a mom, told her she made her son believe Santa was real. So the day he learned it was all false, he wouldn’t even talk to his mom. She felt sad but said she is going to make her second son believe in Santa too anyway. Your video and this story made me realize that I am NOT going to make my futur children believe in Santa. God bless you.

Many of my friends no longer celebrate Christmas at all after they discovered how Christmas started and that Jesus was actually born in a different season.

My parents never told me Santa Clause exists but the school and TV were influencing me. However I never believed fully in Santa Clause despite my letters to the north pole. But gradually I understood it's a myth and I wasn't really disappointed.

I wouldn't do the whole Santa thing if I had children as Santa becomes an idol at Christmas time and that would go against scripture. I'd rather focus on the true meaning of Christmas and that's Jesus. They'd still get lots of gifts, but I'd focus more on the birth of Jesus and the act of giving back, helping those less fortunate etc 😊

We told our son Saint Nicholas existed - but his real name was Saint Nicholas of Myra. We told him the story about this particular saint that lived in 3rd century AD. We told him that the fat man from the north pole is fictional, and isn't real. I won't have any Santa claus paraphernalia in the house either. It's a tie to the secular. My son knows the truth about Christmas and had a nativity scene in his room during Christmas. He knows very well about Jesus and story of the nativity

I think that when a child asks if Santa is real, that is the beginning of them questioning their own unerstanding of Santa (like before he was but now maybe he might actually not be) and they are coming to you to validate what already know. So it is very important for parents to tell the truth. The harder question, I believe is when children ask why do we celebrate chrismas? As a kid I was never too concerned about whether Santa was real or not because emphssis was put on nativity story which we would read in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke every Christmas Eve. But that doesnt mean I didn't write letters to Santa or put out cookies and milk. I also was taught about Saint Nicholas so as I got older my understanding was that the idea of Santa Claus came from there. I also can't reacall the age when I asked my parents if Santa was real lol. But I know that for sure that I knew the truth by grade 7 because I remenmver an incident that happened that school year where only one of my classmates still belived in Santa and was teased about it.

My children know from the beginning that santa is not real. 1 - Even though Jesus was not born on the 25th, we celebrate Christmas but only to celebrate Jesus. 2 - we don't lie to our children. 3 - Christmas is not about us, so why giving them gifts, if the celebration is about Jesus...we don't give them gifts for Christmas. They receive gifts all year. Our children love Christmas and they celebrate the Lord Jesus with joy and they enjoy it too, they are not traumatized because we don't believe in santa or because they dont receive gifts. Our children are healthy and joyful like any other child.

I see where you're coming from Stas. Infact I won't even let my kiddos watch spider man and batman stuff or play with barbies if they're girls. Bible says to think on those things which are true, noble, pure, (REAL). And none of these fictional heroes are Real. They're all made up and I've seen so many kids go crazy over Spiderman and barbies. They worship these imaginary heroes bcz in every lil boy child there's a desire to be powerful and strong like this spiderman and in every lil girl child there's a desire to be gorgeous and lovely like a barbie that's not even Real. I'm keeping these away from my kiddos.

The difference between Santa and Batman/Barbie is that children are never falsely led to believe that the latter is magically real. Kids don't worship Batman like they would Santa. Both adults and children understand that Batman/Barbie is fictional and function as fun, creativity, storytelling device etc. I believe toys, movies, books can be great tools to inspire good character (e.g. bravery, courage, kindness) and aren't inherently bad (as long as they don't replace Jesus)

@monasequeria1996 That is extreme. I think you are letting your fear of idolatry get the better of you. It is better to teach the truth to your kids then hide behind your fears.

My parents made santa into a big elaborate thing because they were worried I wouldn't have a good childhood because of my brothers severe autism, I realized santa wasn't real one day and I was shocked and angry so I pretended to still believe in santa for the rest of the year opened gifts then looked at my parents and asked if they would ever lie to me 😂. How I found out? I thought santa could hear my thoughts like God could and would ask for certain things... Dear santa please get me this toy.... Well 😅 lol. Our Lord and savior however, I once asked for a cat that no one else wanted and found a little ginger kitten in the wet ditch the next day, I named him Moses and my Jesus kitty is worth more than every gift "santa" brought me because Moses is A gift from God and he reminds me of how deep God's love is. God didn't have to give me a random cat that fits our family perfectly but he did lol.

In my case, Santa was more like an icon. I always knew he wasn’t real because I was there when my mom bought the gifts and I even helped her by packing the gifts. She didn’t really want me to believe in him but see him more like an image. We used to live in an apartment so it was fun to imagine santa being stuck trying to enter our house 😂 and kinda sad too because I felt like people living in a house with a fireplace were privileged. 😕

Not really, right? It still causes emotional damage in us unconsciously, But I dont think this is the only reason why ypu shouldn't make their children believe in Santa. Making kids believe in this fictional character teaches them to idolize someone else who sounds a lot like God. I remember when I believed in Santa I really did think that he was either God or someone who is like God. Santa distracts young kids from Jesus; the truth, the way, and the life. Satan is trying to use this holiday to his own advantage to take a hold of kids faith and crush it. To take the spotlight of Jesus's story and what he did for us. This is detrimental because that story is what saves life's and our faith in Jesus is what brings us to eternal life. Not Santa's.

I'm sorry, but Santa Claus was a real person. St. Nicholas was the Bishop of Myra, Turkey. He was from a wealthy family and gave his fortune to the poor and to the children. He is the patron Saint marriages, children, families, and seafarers. Santa Claus is a westernized version of Sinter (Saint) Claus (Nicholas). When children would ask me if Santa Claus is real, I would tell them the truth. He was a real person who did so much good and gave all that he had to God and those in need that he was made a Saint by the church. Since Saints are with us always, and Santa Claus is the spirit of Christmas, then my answer is yes. I do believe in Saint Nicholas. The "Jolly Old Elf " that you on television and in Coca Cola ads is a commercialized rendering to help children believe in goodness and giving. Everyone needs to believe in something good.

You can teach generosity without teaching them about santa. Jesus was big on generosity, so presenting them with him is a great way to teach them about giving. Telling them they got presents from someone who didn't buy them gifts isn't helping them. Also, it adds to the stress of Christmas because you have to buy them extra gifts on top of the 'santa' gifts.
