Depersonalization Disorder is a lesser known mental health issue that has some genuinely scary symptoms. There does not seem to be an agreed explanation for why they occur. In this video I explain why the scariest symptoms happen from the perspective of someone who has essentially recovered.
This video is my own opinion based on my own experiences and is not meant to be a substitute for professional medical help. If you are experiencing issues mentioned in this video and it is creating problems in your life please seek help from a qualified therapist.

The most articulate and sensible description of DP/DR I’ve ever heard. I am 64 years old and originally acquired DP/DR at the age of nine. I’ve lived with on and off for decades. Fabulous insight on your part. Keep up the good work!

Can daydreaming be a symptom of dissociation and depersonalization. I used to have alot from loneliness and alot of trauma. It got so bad that after seeing something bad, I felt so disconnected from everything and then I zone out, and forget what happened in class.

Thank you for the very insightful and scientific explanation. I lost my nan to covid and one day I was in the shower trying to imagine my consciousness being gone. This thought itself came in a wave of fear and anxiety that I bought the derealisation feeling upon myself. Losing self identity, memories gone, And me being me wipe out. It was really a deep thought. As I’m typing this I’m still feeling it (day 5). Im Spiritual so Im meditating hoping it all goes away with affirmations etc. because I know, this is my body and my soul. I have the power and right to not feel this way. I tell myself to accept it and surrender the feeling. This is just a passing phase and I will be fine. It did help but it’s a recovering process :) xx

Only weeks in and I’ve almost not made it. I considered the word I will not say multiple times. I smoked weed once now everything is just weird. I wonder what happens after death, the meaning of life. Everything is so scary. I find myself sitting in bed not able to get up. Just wanting to distract myself because when I’m not having my mind taken up then I disassociate.

Thank you, I have commented before that I have been suffering from DPDR and now in the 27the year of suffering. One think that terribly makes it worse because I believe I have the worst package is that 24/7 for 27 years I Have this ringing in the years that accompanies the DPDR that seems to have a mid of its own. Its almost like another side effect of DPDR and as you explained it is like another part of protection. Sometimes, it just drives me almost crazy.

Hi Hi I'm really confused cause I don't really know if I have DPDR or something else... sinds almost 3 months after a shock event in my life I'm started feeling like my house.my work place my street my family, friends and every single place I visited before strange and first time I went there and also my memories and everything in my life like doesn't happened and also music i loved and every detail in my life...myself my personality like not myself anymore... and also that i feel that everything around me is weird and like im not living in life and environment around me like trees and everything so strange! It's like I forget what normal is and who I was as a person before.. And also related my sensation of weather and environment and seasons? And when I talk it's not seem like me And my head like it's not mine Feeling like I'm not here... it's insane what I'm going throw everyday.. every single detail in life seems different..sky..colors of environment..my whole life is turns up

What are your thoughts on MDMA therapy?, I have endured lots and lots of trauma and prolonged stress for years on end. Since a young age, but I cannot access my pain that is inside of my soul. I have read great things about MDMA therapy being a great thing for CPTSD/PTSD. Which I definitely suffered from with DPD as a symptom. But I am way to scared to try anything like that. I am also to scared to try any medication, as I always feel worse. I have been suffering from DP/DR for more then 20 years on and off. It always changes, and everytime it does, I think theres something else wrong with me.

hi omar! ive had DPDR since i was 13, im 21 now. i started microdosing LSD on and off for about a year, now, and it has helped me heal IMMENSELY, way more than the antidepressants i was prescribed. i also macrodosed at the beginning of this year, which was wonderful. it is not a miracle treatment--it was just the thing that facilitated healing the most easily for me; it unlocked a lot of the trauma i carried and helped me process my experiences and patterns. i highly recommend psychedelics, but it requires a great knowledge of self, some research to see if the treatment and possible effects resonates with you and what you're looking for, and the innate ability to trust that you will be okay. i would start with microdosing a really good day (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HUOX6LD9q0k.html), and james fadiman's talks on youtube. i read the psychedelic explorer's guide before i started microdosing and that was the most helpful piece of literature in my personal research. my experience with DPDR is that it is a coping mechanism for trauma, as you alluded to, so it grows as you go and your circumstances change. i hope this is helpful, and i'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

I have no experience with medication so am not sure. The key is to access the trauma through things like therapy and releasing/processing the emotions (feeling them). You may need to find someone who is specialised in processing trauma.

Can you explain in more detail the effects on your memory? Essentially I now have no short term memory at all. Every day I wake up and it has been wiped clean. It’s been like this for 4/5 months and getting worse. Doctors say nothing wrong with my brain... had MRI all clear. Is this severity of memory loss really DPDR?
